They’re nice but pretty viscous - more like Gu than High5, however I had no trouble consuming one during a training run without any water. I’ve never suffered from an upset stomach due to gels but then again never used many, however thought I’d try them based on their high calorie content and small number of ingredients they contain making them easier to digest apparently, so I split a box with someone at work I’m tempted to get some of their drink sachets to try. I’ve used High5 occasionally in the past as they were provided at the York marathon and find their Isogel doubles up as a drink whereas their Energel is quite thick.

Dammit, just got a confirmation email that we've got a marshalling spot at Endure 24 and we're going to have to cancel as a friends having a wedding anniversary party that night It was good fun last year and I was planning to get some disco lights to go with the music this year
Although as My Mrs suggested maybe they were taking them to check they were ok on them before using them on a longer distance race. She reckons there's a couple of brands that give here a dodgy stomach. But then again why would you test them at a race rather than just out on a local run?

Gels.
I was marshaling at mile 3 of a road half at the weekend and was surprised that among the rubbish there were quite a lot of gel wrappers - surely at mile 3 people don't need to be fuelling?

Afternoon. Been studiously ignoring this thread because I'ma bit pissy about being injured. I know it's my fault for racing the XC, which doesn't make it any better. Been ignoring Strava too, and have deferred my spring marathon to 2020. So, yeah, pissy.
Anyway, wanted to drop in to say thanks for the shinsplints advice S1KKR - I'll give it a go.
ABC321 - Strava's free version is perfectly adequate. Runners World has free training plans which are also excellent. Essentially, the key to improvement is consistency and stressing of one aspect, speed, or endurance, at a time. i.e. don't add in a track session and start ramping your long run up at the same time. Also, note the 80/20 rule - 80% easy running, 20% stressful - tempo and above.
And on the subject of gels, it absolutely should be a DQ. As and when I get to directing my own race, it will be enforced. I stopped, picked up a guys wrapper from the verge of my last half, ran back up to him, handed it back and told him exactly as above - you carried it full, your shorts are minging with sweat anyway, carry it sticky and empty to the finish, or at least, the next aid station bin.
And yes, because this is PH, I then effortlessly pulled away from him on the steepest hill, mainly because throwing a can of Red Bull would undermine my point severely.

Have been doing the foot circles, mainly at work under my desk. Interestingly, I'm able to build up lactic and tire my lower leg more easily doing these that using the theraband at home, though I'll continue to do both, and calf raises.Following my marathon deferral and thus the removal of pressure, I've set myself a theoretically simple task - complete 30 easy runs before trying anything challenging, like a fast parkrun, excessively hilly run etc. Should be simple, but I know what I'm like, hence keeping track on Strava to be accountable. So far, I've done one. In theory, they should be easy enough a level to allow me to do back to back days, but I'll not try that yet. However, I've now comleted two runs of circa 30 mins with no shin pain during or immediately after. Fingers crossed for tomorrow morning.
The bad news though is my A race for this half of the year appears in jeopardy. Its a 24 hour race in Pembrey Country Park, West Wales. It's their first year, but it looks like the entries are low and it may not be viable, which would be both gutting and leave me without a long race on the calendar. So, if you know anyone who wants to run about for 24 hours in spectacular scenery, while their family enjoys a beautiful, unspoilt beach - go here and sign up! https://howies24.run/
Fell running yesterday, above Marsden in the Pennines. Most of the field were led astray, I did an extra mile and a half, came in twenty first out of ninety six, and I know at least seven of those in front of me didn’t run through all the checkpoints, but no numbers were being taken as the weather was that poor. Character building.
Vitality Big half yesterday - 1.29.40 (PB)
I did not pace well at all and I really had to dig deep from Mile 4 to the finish. Still a PB is a PB and plenty of lessons to learn.
Good race, well organised with plenty of toilets before you got to the starting pens which is big positive for any race IMO. My only issue was the waiting times in the pen and having to dodge a lot of people who clearly didn't seed themselves in the right place but I suppose this is what you get with big events and the roads were wide enough to get past everyone. I would do it again but I think I will prefer smaller races in the future. I can see this race becoming very popular in the future like VLM and GNR with the media attention.
I've really enjoyed my running in the last 6 months and I think after Challenge Roth in July I'm going to purely focus on running for a while with a trip back to Valencia in December and maybe Comrades next year.

I'm the opposite I joined a local running club last summer, was training hard for the Palma half at the end of October but ended up getting ill (very bad cold, night sweats) the week before and had to pull out. Didn't properly recover until February this year which meant I had to pull out of another half a couple of weeks ago as I'd done so little training. It's all lead to me completely losing my running mojo! Just can't get motivated to get out of the house to run at the moment, tomorrow night is a club running night but I'm already looking at the weather and wondering if I should go.

Friend of mine did the Howarth Hobble in Saturday in similar conditions. You guys get my respect, not pleasant at all. FredClogs said:

Get out and get it done a short runs better than no run. Theres something I quite enjoy about a run in poor wet cold weather feels a bit more rewarding when you get in and get a shower. It's all lead to me completely losing my running mojo! Hi all,
I'll be in Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis, France during the first week in April for a skiing holiday.
I'm not the greatest skier so I am thinking about getting some runs in whilst I'm over there, does anyone have any routes or favourite places near there?
Any tips for running in the Alps in April?
Is there a website like Runbritain where you can find out about any events on? I guess not as it's still the ski season.
Cheers.

Anyone here got a Garmin 645 Music or Fenix 5 Plus? Any problems?
Looking to replace my 610, and like the idea of music and Garmin pay. I find the 610 a bit bulky to wear as a normal watch though, and the Fenix 5+ I looked at yesterday seemed to be a similar thickness, but not found anywhere with a 645 in stock to look at yet. Half the price of the Fenix, thinner, lighter, and if I'm honest I don't think I'd really use any of the Fenix's additional features... but navigation maps on your watch would be pretty cool...

Doesn't seem to be heavily used in the UK but I've found quite a few good routes in France using it
