It does sound like the Novablasts improve with miles.

Just done 8 miles in my new Pegasus Turbo 2s, moderate effort, 7.16 /mi, and I think they're great. Just really clicked with them. Don't want to get too used to how light they are!

Still undecided on what to buy as an easy/recovery day shoe.

I purchased some adidas solar boost for recovery days as they were cheap, don't rate them tbh only done 20 odd miles, will take them ton100 miles and if I am not liking them will just use them for walking!

Had some asics cumulus before they were superior, Adidas sl20 meant to be very good and can get them cheap!

I do like the look of the SL20s, but I think they’re more of a tempo day shoe, and that’s really what the Pegasus Turbo 2s do. Lightstrike is supposed to be quite firm. I think the NB 1080v10s would be perfect but I’m reluctant to buy them when they’ve been out for ages and are still at full RRP everywhere.

My latest and greatest daft running plan is to run a 59s 400m. I'm nearly 46.
What can you do now? And what is your best mile time?

It’s possible but 3-400 m will be tough

Week 3 of C25K here. Still hating the phantom shin pain and really struggling not to treat it like an interval session, but the feeling of running reasonably fast is great.

Shin splints are very common in new runners. Get yourself a big bag of frozen peas and wrap then in a tea towel, then sit with them round your shins while you're watching TV in the evening. Should take the inflammation down.

Or take a decent ibuprufen (600mg) an hour prior to the run.

Cheers both. I don't have shin splints. I had them and a bony stress reaction. I took 12 weeks off after it became clear my marathon was going to be cancelled. I'm using C25K as a structure to get back injury free. I just see every light tickle and feeling as a devastating bone injury!

Also there seems to be evidence that "Zoom Fly 3" will be replaced by "Nike Next % Zoom Air Tempo"

Obviously it apes the Alphafly in design, though it wont have a carbon plate, but a composite one instead. Obviously for cost, but also to reduce overall stiffness.

ZF3s are £140ish. Tempos are estimated at $200USD, so even if that's £160ish it's a price hike
Really looking forward to these
I like that they have a built in spirit level. Nike really do think of everything. wink

I'm the same coming back from injury, always paranoid about a relapse until fully back into the swing of it, then focus changes to times & distance again.
Sounds like an annoying one though.

I think sometimes you just have to accept some things as long-term niggles. Mine is achilles pain - had it for probably 20 years, so now just accept it will nag if I run, but also if I don't, so just don't worry unless it flares-up big time.

Good luck with the 'comeback' - you're being a lot more disciplined that I've ever managed (normally along the lines of 'that 3k was OK, I'll try 5 next time, and maybe a 10 if that goes OK. Which ended up making a 4-week calf tear recovery take two months...).

Just an update I ran my fastest 10k last night. 54:29 I didn’t mean to try and go “fast” I know it’s slow on here.

It was the fourth day on the bounce I had ran. Never normally do that but I felt good. Rest day for me today and il go for a long slow run in the morning. I did 80 miles last month. Hoping to do 100 this month.

On the shoes theme, I've just taken delivery of some Zoom Fly SP Fast, currently £90.47 on the Nike store.

I'm not sure when I'll get to use them, as I'm mostly running on hilly trails at the moment, so not really their natural habitat, but I'll give them a spin before the return period expires.

They are pretty light, and the uppers are literally see-through.

I really wanted to see what the whole carbon-plate (OK it's 'carbon infused' in this one) thing is about, and see that the Zoom Fly 3 was generally seen as a backward step (heavier & less well-balanced) when they can out, so thought they seem like a bit of a bargain with the price drop...

Thanks I’d like

1 mile in the 5’s
5k in the 20’s
10k 50’s
Half 2 hours

Don’t know how realistic these goals are but I will keep trying. The only distance I have tried to get a good time is 5k 23:41 so a long way to go yet!

It's highly individual. That said, the higher your weekly mileage and the stronger you are, the faster you go, so if you can gradually work your way up the times will drop.

I didn't - guess I can order some more and return these idea
Edit to add - just checked and they have sold out in my size, so still glad I got in at the price I did...

Might end up adding Pegasus Turbos too, which would be an expensive saving smile

Do you mean a mile in <6 mins? That's a fair bit faster than the other goals!

Yes! Sorry I wasn’t very clear, should of said 1 mile in 5xx, 5k in 20xx etc

I was just guessing as I used to be quite fast over short distances as a kid. My pb mile is about 6:50 at the min and that would of been as part of a longer run.

As I say no idea how achievable any of them are!

The mile time would be much harder than the other goals! A sub 6 min miler would usually be capable of a sub 20 5km rather than a sub 30!
