All other Nike runners in "Mango" Next%'s (which have pretty much sold out after being launched this morning laugh )

I thought that the ‘pros’ could only run in shoes available to Joe Public for a certain period. A few months. Maybe that only applies to Olympics/Records etc ?
Yes, you’re correct, it’s all sanctioned competition.

The women were running in Mango Alphafly Next%.

Out of the top 25 male runners 9 were wearing the Alphafly Next% and 6 were in the Vaporfly Next%.

I bagged a pair of the mango Vaporfly NEXT% on Sunday, and surprisingly they’re still available in everything but a size 9.

Just a shame that after three runs last week my shin is hurting again. Time to get a proper scan on it.

How are you figuring those numbers? Is there a link somewhere?

Looks awfully like the majority in VF Next% confused

BTW Heres the quote from Bekele prior to the race about Alphaflys

Bekele said:
It's really difficult to adapt to (the Alphafly), especially with speed workouts. Several times I had some minor injuries, like a muscle stretch. Because the shoe is not stable under the foot. It's really unshaped. It's really soft. The muscle needs to adjust to the movement under it. It's really difficult. Anybody cannot use the shoes. For walking or normal life it's OK, you can do it. But to perform hard work in the shoe it's really difficult. Eliud already had these shoes before one year ago. All of us other athletes got them maybe six months ago. Many of us were locked at home. Because of Covid you could not train as you wanted. So I had some problems with the shoes because I couldn't adapt to it. Your muscles have to adjust to these shoes. It's not like normal shoes. It's really difficult. I tried to investigate it with other athletes and most of them had problems with these shoes, too."
Would explain why so many nike athletes went with the VF next% instead.

I’ve read that all the Kenyans (in both the men’s and women’s races) ran in AF, whereas the Ethiopians ran in VF. The AFs were developed in Kenya, and have been available to them for longer. Apparently.

Feels like whoever did that graph is wrong. (Wheres it from?)

I can see 9 pairs of VF N% in the above pic alone! laugh

Plus EKs AFs (white) and there's another pair (pink/mango) nearer the back

confused

Posted by Ben Johnson, one of the Believe In The Run reviewers.

I don’t know how accurate it is, but I do know that I can’t work it out from that blurry photo!

How are you guys working out your max HR's? Everything that I've seen suggests that true Max HR can only be held for a few minutes at best
Used to be: strap a monitor on, warm up sensibly and then run 800m time trial as if in a race (could also do on towpath etc). Series of reps up a 3-400m hill would work as well (that's length, not altitude gained)

Well some will be pacers who don't finish and 29 runners finished and that's the top 25 so who knows! Doesn't really matter anyway really i guess wobble

Joshua Cheptegei going after Bekele's 10,000m WR tonight in Valencia.

Predictions, anyone?

Watchable here

Bekeles record stands for 15 years!

Got to assume Nike will have some special shoes to make sure. (The ones Farah broke the hour record in?)

Yes, he's going to he wearing some special spikes.

I'm not sure how I feel about the trackside lights.... Clearly they offer a huge pacing advantage. That said, you've still got to run it.....

I just simply can’t comprehend it. I couldn’t run 100m at that pace, never mind 10km.

It’s crazy. However, Kipchoge’s WR marathon pace was just 5 seconds a mile slower. Over 26.2 miles. That’s really crazy.

Isn’t it over 20 seconds a mile difference?

10k in 26:11 is roughly 4:13min/mile.
A 2 hour dead marathon is 4:35min/mile.
