Yeah I wear a wrist sweatband, which also has a useful pocket to tuck housekeys into to avoid jangling/chafing (£3 from Decathlon). Main problem in summer is glasses slipping off my face so I run with them in my hand. Camelbak is handy for the longest runs.

Obviously technical clothing. Short shorts and vest when it's warm for me. I don't sweat a huge amount but if you do perhaps a headband may help stop the sweat getting in your eyes?
I wasn't
sure if a headband would make me hotter. I will give it a try and see if wristbands work to wipe my eyes
I have a merino hat (skull cap type) that is great for catching my sweat and stopping it running down into my eyes - the downside is its minging by then end of a run and needs a good wash smile
I also have a neck buff, to catch falling sweat, and it also doubles up as an impromptu mask if i need to go through/round groups of zombie dog-walkers hogging all of the pavement/pathways!

Session went well considering no speed work for what..... 4 weeks?!

Just 13 mins at 6:15/mile then 2x1min at 5:00/mile. Felt fairly good so I plan to get back to "proper" training from next week.

Didn't realise you were that quick. That's some great running!

Thanks. Considering how little speed work I've done and how inconsistent my training has been it's not bad. I'm definitely good for a sub 19 5km already, maybe 18:40. Back when I was a "proper" runner I did a 16:48 but as you know that was many years ago now! The form is there but the running fitness isn't. Cardio still good from cycling lots though.

I just need to get some consistent training in and I'm sure I can make good progress. The 6:15/mile felt hard but controlled. Max HR was 164 in that 13min block (my max is 179). I would LOVE to get back to my pre-brain tumour surgery ability, but time will tell.

Got another 5k PB today (18:20) 3:40km/m, previous was 18:39 so dead chuffed with that. Wasn't even aiming for it, just felt good on the way back so gave it my all, 19 seconds off is pretty mad! I think sub 18 might still be a bit of a stretch though...

Well done.

I think I can get back to "proper" training from next week as I feel I'm over injuries. 8.3 mile run this morning done followed by 45mins on the bike. Fingers crossed for some injury-free consistent training and improvements.

Feel like I’m really earning my running stripes recently. I’m doing the Summer Spine (previously Spine Fusion) in a few weeks so my training is not so much coming to a head as trying to finish me off smile This last week has been 2 marathons, 2 half marathons and today has been a half this morning with another headtorch one tonight. The next 4 weeks are worse. My target is 100 hours start to finish for the 268 miles; realistically it will be further because I’m bound to get lost, and I’ll definitely be leaving the route to go shopping for food (because you can). And that’s an aggressive target for a donkey like me, but you’ve got to set a goal, right?

I've mostly been doing short, fast runs (about 6k) as part of our weekly boot camps, mixed with cycling and inline skating.

Decided to do a 10k for the first time in months and set a new PB of 38:33 (3:52/km). I cracked sub 40 mins for the first time last summer (only just) so to knock almost a minute and a half off last summer's time was quite surprising, especially given my focus on other sports (not just running).

I wonder to what extent my Nike Air Zoom Tempos helped because they really do bounce along the road! A great trainer.

Wow that sounds mental! Keep us posted on the rest of your training and the event itself, I love extreme challenges like this just can't commit the time to train for them!

Best of luck! I've done a few ultras but nothing near that magnitude so I take my hat off to you. Furthest i've run was 130km and I was dead on my feet shuffling to the end, can't imagine what I would be like after 268 miles.

I'm training for race to the stones at the moment. Had a few weeks off distance as my outdoor circuit training club is back so been doing a lot of that lately as I enjoy it. Still been getting to around 35 miles each week which is more than I used to do. Did an easy half marathon yesterday but my peroneal muscles on the side of my lower leg are really painful and appear bruised on one side. Not sure how i've done it but guess i'll have to have a couple days off with a lot of icing.

Cheers! I can’t recommend it smile

And it’s all relative of course. In a couple of weeks, rumour has it, John Kelly is having another go at the North>South FKT he had last year for about a minute til Damian Hall took it. So the record currently (albeit in the opposite direction to the Spine race) is 2days 13hours 35mins. Which is fking madness, given I’m aiming for 2 days longer laugh

A mate of mine paced Hall last year for the last 20 miles or so and is pencilled in to do the same for Kelly so I think I might go up to Edale and get in the way.

Back to training this week, so fingers crossed all is well on the injury front. After the medium 8.3 mile run Sunday I did a moderate 5.8 miles Monday with 5x strides thrown in and a VERY easy 3.6 miles today followed by a pretty hard hour on the bike. Day off tomorrow.

Thursday I plan on 20mins around threshold (should be a little over 5km), few mins off then 2x1km at sub 6min/mile off 75secs, then 4x250m off 45secs around 5:00/mile.

Due to the numerous injuries I've had to keep delaying things but 5km TT planned for 4 weeks time to give me a base for my fitness. I have made the decision to almost give up cycling and focus on running. I want to be at 40+ miles/week within 2-3 months or so and I'd love to be at 50 miles/week by mid autumn.

When asked if I was still getting back to running someone said "well, you'll never be as good as you were, but that's not important". What a defeatist attitude. I'm willing to give it a shot, and I'm currently only 32 so it's certainly possible, certainly for over 10k (34:52 pb). This year the goals would be sub 18 5km (I think this should be FAIRLY easy considering I've done very little and I'm definitely worth around 18:45 or so right now) and a sub 38:30 10km. We shall see what happens. Just need to stay injury free! 29 miles in the last 7 days and I haven't had a single niggle.

To give you encouragement, I ran my fastest 5k aged 43 (16:59) and also beat my 5mile and 10 mile beats aged 44. Back in training as of today although on a run streak to run every day this year.

You can be much better with smarter training and listening to your body on injuries

Well considering that was my first half decent length session for a while it went better than expected.

Warm up, 20mins at 6:11/mile, 4mins off, 2x1k off 75secs rest at 5:45/mile, 3mins rest, 4x250m off 1min rest 4:45-5:00/mile. After warm down total mileage 8.9.

Happy with that all things considered. Legs feel fine, no niggles at all and the last 7 days have been 33 miles now.

Onwards and hopefully progress and injury-free!

London Marathon Events seem very, very keen for me to submit myself to a test and trace 5k at Kempton Park.

"To ensure it is safe, every runner and spectator will be required to take a home lateral flow test, which will be sent to you prior to the event, and a further PCR test before and after the event. If you test positive prior to the event, you will get a refund."

Anyone else?

Not really them though is it, it’s one of the Events Research Programme pilot events. If you don’t want to do it, don’t do it, no-one cares smile
