First race since 2019 this morning. Pleased, pace started to suffer the last mile in the heat but over all happy. My miles are sitting around 20 a week currently, I find any more my recovery isn’t what it was in my 30’s.
Well done on that.Moderate 11.75 miles this morning for me to take it to just over 40 for the week. Getting there.

Guys Ive a pair of adidas bostons with 436km on the clock. are they good for much more in the opinion of the heads here? 1 year old
Having kind of bought into the shoe manufacturer tales of degrading midsoles, the other day I accidentally wore my pair of Saucony Guide ISOs on a training 10K. They're my "old old" road shoes, they've done 1387km, and have long been relegated to everyday casual duties around town.I would be hard pushed to say I noticed any real difference versus my shiny new 100km shoes. Now, I'm not going to train every day in 1387km shoes and certainly won't race in them, but for occasional use I reckon your 400km shoes are absolutely fine.
Feeling like I'm really making progress now. Due to work schedule I've done 7 days in a row, today marked a total of 49.1 miles and actually felt pretty good.
20mins @ 6:14/mile, 90secs rest, 10mins @ 6:07/mile, 3mins rest, 1km (marginally uphill by 30ft total) at 3:22 (my old 5km pb pace!), 2:30 rest, 2x20secs @ around 4:00/mile pace off 40secs rest.
Despite it being 7th consecutive day I felt pretty good.
Unfortunately my old coach has informed me he is now retired from coaching, so I'm going to be looking for a local club now. I will only be able to train with them on alternate Saturday mornings and every Sunday so hopefully I can find a suitable group
I'm dying to know whether I can get as quick as I used to be. I'm not so sure about 5km but it'd be interesting to see if I could with 10km or HM.

Did a 10km last Sunday, a couple of sharp hills in it, but managed to beat my previous best of 57 mins dead with a 53 minutes 53 seconds.
Fast forward to the weekend just gone and was down to do a 'relay' half marathon with another guy organised by local running club. Due to one reason or another, turned up at the start and ended up doing the full half-marathon instead of just 10km. Totally unprepared, feeling very rough from the 2 bottles of Fizz and some Cider I had put away the night before, managed 2 hours 10 minutes and then in the afternoon 15 miles on the bike with the little one and a 4 mile walk with the dog after that. Sat there wondering on Sunday night what I could have done had I prepared a little bit ha ha!

May be tricky, most clubs I know including ours do their long run on sunday morning and support the local parkrun on a saturday. The actual hard work/sessions are mid week evenings. 20mins @ 6:14/mile, 90secs rest, 10mins @ 6:07/mile, 3mins rest, 1km (marginally uphill by 30ft total) at 3:22 (my old 5km pb pace!), 2:30 rest, 2x20secs @ around 4:00/mile pace off 40secs rest.

So, I've been in touch with a coach and he's added me to a Facebook group for the athletes he coaches. He said they sometimes do sessions on a Saturday and occasionally Tuesday evenings (alternate weeks of each suit me with work schedule) and hopefully I can meet people for longer Sunday runs.
Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to it!
So coach already set me some running to do for this week. Steady hour today (done, 7.8 miles), easy 30 tomorrow at recovery pace, tomorrow is a "quality session - of which I'll be having 2x/week which is what I've been doing anyway - doesn't seem too brutal.....warm up, 10mins approx 6:45/mile (so definitely a fair chunk under threshold), 3min jog recovery then 10x1min faster than 5km pace off 2min jog recovery. He's said to aim for approx 5:52/mile for the 1min reps but reckon I could probably go quicker than that, we'll see. Then just 90-100mins steady Sunday.
Exciting to have a coach again. He coaches many athletes from different clubs, so still need to find a club to run for, but I gather most of them run for the same one, so I'll likely join them. This week set to be about 44-45 miles.

Cuuuuute!!What's everyone's plan for the weekend?
My session set by coach seemed too easy, so I ended up going considerably quicker for the 1min intervals. I figured there were two ways to do the session, stick to the prescribed 5:52/mile for the 1min efforts but do the 2min recoveries at a "float" so not much of a recovery, or run the 1mins harder. Considering Tuesday was largely an endurance session I decided on the latter. 10mins at 6:34/mile, 3min jog recovery at 8:40/mile, for the 10x1min intervals I averaged 5:13/mile with the 2min jogs at around 8:05-8:10/mile. Last effort was feeling good so threw in a 4:43/mile effort for that.
33.3 miles so far this week, 12 miles planned for tomorrow. Feel like I'm making pretty quick progress now. FINALLY.
What is everyone else doing this weekend?
Race to the Stones 100km for me this weekend. Training had going well up to about a month ago when I hurt my hip, lots of physio and chiropractor fees later and its still a bit sore so will have to see how I get on.
I also have the added pressure of having tickets to Sunday's final so i've got to finish in a decent time and without dying or ending up in hospital

Figers crossed they'll be a few England goals at Wembley to keep you up and out of your seat every now and again, or you might sieze up if you have to sit there for over 2 hours

Training going well for me this week. As well as steady running I've done 2 sessions. Wednesday was 4 sets of 1km, 2mins rest, 300m then 400m jog recovery and then straight back to the next 1km effort. Averaged 3:28 for the kms and 5:00/mile for the 300m paces.
Today was hard in the heat (starting at just after 11am wasn't sensible!). 5min tempo (6:43/mile), 1min jog, 4x5mins averaging 6:19/mile off 3mins float at 7:10/mile then straight into 5km tempo at 6:28/mile. After warm up and cool down that's another 12 miles. Should be over a 50 mile week. On a rolling 7 days of 54.5 miles after today.

Cute!I'm proposing naming part of our parkrun course "Guano alley" due to the amount of Egyptian goose poo all over the path but we've had goose, duck and coot chicks all over the place recently, and even the occasional greeb chick. Not seen the rabbits or herons with any youngsters yet though.
I do like to see a bit of wildlife when I'm out for a run.

Well I survived the race! Just finished in daylight with a time of 13:43 (running time of 12:53). My previous pb at this race was 15:35 (running time of 14:33) so a decent improvement. The hip I had hurt was absolutely fine, however the other one wasn’t! I reckon I have a sub 12 finish in me if I was to stay uninsured during the race. Now to hobble very gingerly around London for the football!
