Just in from a 10km run. Nothing fancy, I average 5.25 a KM in pace and this was pretty flat pavement run. I have been running in the Pegasus 38 now for 170km coming from On Cloud Flows. I also use lock elastic laces. Last couple of runs (since switching to the lock laces) my right heal is killing me after a run and the top of the foot is also sore.

Cannot work out if the shoe isn't for me, the laces are causing issues or I just need to go to my local running shop and get on their treadmill for a proper shoe set up.

What do you runners think?
Sounds like the laces to me. Pulled too tight across the top of your foot, but with too much give at the top such that they're not holding the shoe on securely and causing it to move, giving you heel pain.

I'd go back to ordinary laces and look up lock lacing techniques

I have had the Floatride Energy 2 and also the Floatride Energy Grow. Really like them as well, and seem cracking value compared to the other big names.

I just need to wait for a promo code or sale on the reebok site before i purchase the new Energy 4.
Just google it and you can get 25% for free on a voucher code website!

I have the 2 and 3 and will pick up the 4 at some point later in the year. Apart from an out and out race shoe reebok offer everything now. Dont overlook the symetros either I did 10miles in mine this morning 380miles in them now and they are still performing really well!
Have you tried any of the sketchers proper running shoes?

Hi all. I got myself a pair of asics metaspeed sky runners. quite nice and bouncy and the second pair ive head with a pair of magicspeed also in the closet. My question, with these type of runners, is how long do they last in terms of KM?
Would love to hear your thoughts on the metaspeed. I would say it completely depends on you and your form, however I would use them for 3 key fast sessions before a race and then if you get on with them keep them for race day only or when you really want to smash it!

I went full fan boy and bought the reebok carbon shoe, 25%discount code from Google and they were £95. Looks to be a less aggressive half carbon plate affair, perfect for me as I love my hoka rocket x and can keep them for race day now!
Josh I forgot to address the initial comment on the metaspeed. Heres my issue, I wore them two weeks ago for x2 10ks and finished up with a compeed heel sticker. thereafter ive been wear the hell out of a pair of flyknit react 2's. so ill give the metaspeeds another spin this week as the heel seems ok and will let you know.

I'm looking to use something more natural than energy gels. Something like some honey diluted in a small amount of water, or maple syrup, would be ideal for me, but need something easy to carry it with, something that would preferably be of similar size to a gel packet, that's reusable? I have an inov8 250ml packable bottle which is great for a small drink but I'm after something that's small enough to fit into a back pocket of some shorts.

Any ideas, anyone!?

Masters relays in Sutton park on Saturday.
That is a hilly 5k with 210ft of elevation and some decent runners (Scott Overall as an example)
Found it hard and did not have a great run but we think we came 8th in my age category which was not bad. Some of our ladies came 6th in theirs which is not bad for a small provincial running club

I tend to use Nakd fruit/nut bars if they're any good? About the same size as a gel

Similar to my inov8 one but a bit smaller, could fit the bill!

Not sure I can eat/chew whilst on the go, but appreciate the thought nonetheless!

Have you had a look at these guys, https://www.33fuel.com , all natural ingredients, I find their gels easier on my stomach although they are a bit pricier than the usual suspects

I gave up trying to pack stuff into my pants years ago, and now just wear an active skin vest and put my Mountain Fuel nutrition into soft flasks.

ETA Actually I was thinking about this earlier; the best shorts I had for carrying some extras were Gore Run 2 in 1 jobs, with mesh pockets on the outside of the inner short.

These are the current version, but no way in balls did I pay 150quid for them, absolute con artist price these days eek

Thank you. Just in from a run with the old laces in and no issues what so ever.

I'm running the Great Run Half marathon in Birmingham this Sunday, what do you all eat pre race\run, fuelling has been an issue for me in a my last couple of halfs last year, leading to "bonking" in the last few miles, breakfast is usually weetabix with banana and then a gel + water during the run, was thinking of taking a gel just before the start but not sure if that is over kill or not.

How far and long does anyone consider for a warmup for 5k,10k & HM? For recent parkruns I've been using a car park about half a mile from the start then jogging slowly to it and stretching a little.

Should I be doing more? I see some people run one lap (2.5k) of the course to warm up but I always think this will wear me out before the run.

For reference I usually clock in at around 20min for a parkrun and did a 1:31 hm last month, age 40.

I would not do anything new so I would not take the gel. I would eat what you usually eat so your stomach is used to it's fuel

My current training plan usually asks me to do a 10 min easy paced warm up before tempo / interval / rep sessions - works OK for races too

For parkrun for someone of your fitness and pace I would say 1-2 miles would be about right with some srides. For a 10k, a mile I think and a half marathon, probably 1/2-1 mile

That's all I do. 10 minute controlled jog, 5 minutes dynamic stretching, 2 minutes shuttle runs, 20 minutes stood around waiting for the start because I can't manage my time properly.

Thanks, I'll try doing a slow 2.5km warm up lap with a few fast strides at race pace and see how I get on.
