Hi
I use map my run (iPhone) and a cheap smart watch for measuring the usual stuff.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to set an alarm/ tone after reaching a certain distance? E.g, after I reach 5k, the phone will tell me and then I can turn around, so it’s actually a 10k run, if that makes sense?
Happy to look at alternatives to MapMyRun as well, since the update it’s been very frustrating to use.

Certainly Garmin allow you to define a workout as two 5K intervals (with no recovery between) which will cause the watch to bleep (and vibrate I think) once you reach the end of the first interval.
I don't use my phone to track activities, but you might look at Strava as an alternative to MapMyRun.

Had a look at the 255 but it doesn't seem to offer anything important over my 245 Music. NFC would be nice, as I do like a post-run latte, but the list of banks on Garmin Pay is tiny.
I'm tempted to upgrade my Vivoactive 3 as the touchscreen can be frustrating when you need to use it quickly (double tap for lap, etc.) and the 41mm case size of the 255 would suit my skinny wrists. Are they worth spending £300 for when in reality my current watch does everything I need? Not sure just yet, I'll see if I get a payrise at the end of the month!I had a tight left glute med on my run on Saturday, had to stop and stretch which settled it somewhat, it felt fine on Sunday, and I felt it again Monday (mildly), had a rest day yesterday.....what will happen today?
I'll be heading out soon, 4x "split miles" - 1.2km at 5k pace, 90secs rest, 400m hard, 2mins rest....repeat.
Pretty windy out there today so I suspect 2 reps will be a lot quicker than another 2!

One thing the vivoactve, check what functions it has, I think the early ones were more smart watch with some running functions and didn't have some of the nice features like virtual pacer that I use all the time.

Well that was horrifically windy Pretty wet and slippy, one of my first speed sessions of the year so I'm pretty happy....
1.2k reps averaged 5:46/mile and 400m reps @ 5:25/mile.
good man. what shoes were you running in?? 1.2k reps averaged 5:46/mile and 400m reps @ 5:25/mile.
I went to the track this lunchtime for some 100m reps. I played the safe option out of the runners available, ie 2022 Bostons, Metaspeeds, Magic speeds and went with the nike react infinity run flyknits. I can not emphasize enough how good these shoes are.

Shoes with wings on at those speeds! I went to the track this lunchtime for some 100m reps. I played the safe option out of the runners available, ie 2022 Bostons, Metaspeeds, Magic speeds and went with the nike react infinity run flyknits. I can not emphasize enough how good these shoes are.
A good friend really rates the react infinity run flyknits. I like Hoka at the moment but wonder about a change. Bizarrely I’ve not seen Nike’s in the running stores I’ve been to recently. Are they mainly online now?

They're a lovely shoe for tempo work and slower, and they aren't BAD for speed work, but I think even the Saucony Endorphin Speed is better for stuff at those paces. I just like the RC Elite V2s because they're nice and soft I won't be buying another pair though.

Any recommendations for online running shoe shops?
Start Fitness have done well for me. I buy 1 generation old Brooks Ghosts at a tidy reduction.TyrannosauRoss Lex said:

Dammit, the guy who was going to take my Man V Horse relay team place has pulled out. Anyone interested in a 3 person team on 11 June for £81?

We had a great time - big thank you for making it all possible !We finished in 328th position - just a couple of minutes under 4 hours, which I'm very happy with. (Back in the day, I was just over 3 hours [Solo].
This event has given me the impetus and incentive, to lose weight and get out and do some training.
There's a brilliant vibe at this event. The course was challenging (as it always is) and I'm pleased that I made the decision to run in fell shoes.
I fully intend to do it next year, either as part of a V60 relay team or as a solo runner . . . . . . . I believe that all places are usually sold within 48 hours of
the entries opening - is that correct ?
Se you there next year (?).

Nice, glad you enjoyed it. It's easily the most fun race I've done. I think tickets go on sale in the beginning on January and sell out pretty quick, loads changing hands via the Facebook group over the last few months though, but I'm guessing that's not normal as most tickets were carried over from 2020.
Not sure if we'll enter for next year yet, it's a long way to go for a weekend and the biggest hill I can train on is something like 27 meters above sea level Only really worth it if my Mrs is fit to solo again.
Re shoes, there's a video of one guy falling right near the start, at the right turn at the roundabout it town. Some trail/fell shoes are utter rubbish on tarmac, hope he didn't hurt himself too badly with 20+ miles still to go!

After another 3 solid weeks of training I'm having another easy week..... Did a 13 miler yesterday and legs felt fine today. Only 42.5M last week so not huge mileage but after all my injuries I am hoping I'm getting there (I've said that before though!). Just hoping thr strength work is paying off. Aside from a few niggles (the worst of which was a 4 or 5 day lay off) I've been injury-free for over 3 months now. By far my longest spell. Whether it's the strength work or my cautious approach to speed work and mileage that's helping I'm not sure, but probably both.
