Great post mate, looks lovely out there!

Yes, spade clubs feel horrendous after using blades. Awful things.

Also, reckon you've saved ~£5000 by playing blades?

Go blades! wink
There are far worse places to spend 5 hours. Just a shame I did the British thing and didn't bother with suncream, so my arms (and one of my hands) are quite red currently smile

I hadn't actually considered that aspect of the blades, there's another reason to play them! smile

Playing on my own (which i quite like the idea of, to get away from everything for a few hours) with zero professional lessons.

When i've visited the driving range ive purposely placed myself in a bay next to someone who i see is hitting the ball well and strike up a conversation with them and get some advice. That seems to be working well so far and a few obvious faults in my swing were mentioned as well as just recently my grip. The irons i have no problem hitting straight and consistently, the hybrid straight most of the time and the driver having the obvious slices. The new grip (which all the tutorials also seem to promote) is almost like starting all over again but i do feel an improvement on the impact with the ball, its more 'crisp' is the only was i can describe it but the grip still feels somewhat unnatural.
It can be nice playing on your own for a bit of peace and quiet, but do try and play with other who know their way around the course. Striking the ball is all well and good, but if your course management is poor you'll soon find yourself in sticky situations after hitting nice shots. I'm sure you'll soon see what I'm on about once you get out there and start hitting shots with more to think about than just hitting it straight. That's where having someone to guide you a bit can be a real bonus.

Let us know how you get on.

Dont all big manufacturers offer blades anyway? Or are you suggesting that say Titleist would prefer their sponsored guys to use AP rather than the bladed equivalent?

Im in the market for new irons at the moment. Ive played the same set of Mcgregor MT Tour Semi Blades since I was 14, so they are now almost half my age!
It is a case of "if its not broke, dont fix it"...but im sure newer technology could help me out. Including a big lump of blade wink

And you might find straight isn't quite as straight as you thought wink.

Well gents today I am a happy boy. Finally managed to get some golf in , we had glorious sunshine all day. Didn't quite manage 18 Holes due to the course/players in front but still very happy. Shot 16 on the first 9 which I was over the moon with.

Had a few lessons purchased for me for my birthday last weekend so looking forward to those, even though i know they will change a lot about my swing. Definitely need to work on my driver , left it in my bag today and just used my hybrid.

Thought I'd just drop this in here:

That's my brother, just added the US Hickory Open Championship to his World Hickory title, bit of car nut as well, though his MGF would suggest not.
This is really F'ing cool, congrats to your Brother!

I looked into this a couple of years back, the clubs are so beautiful and I can really see the attraction of it.

The golf played is super impressive stuff, your Brother must be some golfer smile

Oooh.. missed that! Yeah, that's brilliant, fair play! It would be interesting to hit some old wooden shafted clubs, I wonder if they could put up with the forces generated by today's 'power players.'

Reading further, Andrew is an ex European Tour player so bloody good then. Year before, Sandy Lyle won the World Hickory Championship!

I had a hit with these the other day, they were easy to hit and great feel, and they are stunning to look at. Looking down on them at address they looked bigger than my AP2's

I will defo consider blades for my next set, but only from 6-PW

Yeah, they look lovely. Maybe in a couple of years when I'm looking to replace my Ping's I'll look at blades, like you say, maybe just up to 6 iron.

Now they do look like butter knives and an off centre hit with those would hurt!

With the Srixon you get Perimeter weighting and all tech, with Smithy I would guess they are one single ump of metal?

Off centre strikes aren't the ones that hurt. Strikes that are low on the face are the ones that hurt. Hit the club too high on the face, towards the heel or the toe and it won't hurt at all.
