I doubt I'd have much influence! Speak to the pro (Nick) at Hemsted Forest GC, he'll sort you out I'm sure.

I'll give him a shout when I invest in the new bats, definitely want to give them a try. Got a few holidays to pay for before SWMBO will let me buy them.

Oh he can play, I think I've beaten him once in 30 years and that was at crazy golf. Doesn't really know any different, he's never been a big hitter of the ball so he had to make up with it somewhere else, his short game is fairly insane or so I've been told. Watched him at the open in 2004 (I think) which was pretty nuts, just never quite did enough to bag the wins.

Anyway, says the hickory golf is very pure and gives loads more feel than the modern game. I don't even know how that's possible when you have to play with what boils down to a commando, and the bats are supposed to be pre-1935....

Only he could be good at something most people have never heard of biggrin

Was meant to be playing Saturday but looks like the 30mph wind and constant rain that's predicted will be putting paid to that idea! Absolutely gutted!

I was going by what the BBC was saying for Sittingbourne, which is the nearest town to where we're meant to be playing (I think). I can deal with wind or rain separately, just not together, going soft!

Just realized I put this on the 2015 thread by accident..

New bats have just been ordered after having a fitting on Sunday biggrin

Callaway Apex MB 4-PW
Callaway Apex UT 21 Degree (3 iron)
KBS Tour X stiff shafts

Was a toss up between the Dynamic Gold X100 and the KBS as they felt similar but I just preferred the flight of the KBS so went with them.

Here in a week, cant wait party

They look lovely! what difference in ball flight did you notice? I'm playing S100s at the mo but was right between those and the X100s and was also offered the KBS's when I was measured a few years ago. Always struggle with a high ball flight, hit my 4 iron higher than most peoples 7 irons! Drives me mad in the wind, even when i flight it down, it still ends up way too far in the air!

I have exactly the same problem, tend to hit a very high ball, which is excellent when trying to hold a green, and can make for some pretty impressive approach shots, but playing in the wind is a nightmare.

I'm told it's a lot to do with the way I strike the ball - I tend to hit down on it quite a lot to generate some spin, which does lead to quite a steep angle of attack. Tempted to get some lessons to work it out, but at this point I quite like the thud as the ball comes back from orbit smile

think I'm on S300's at the mo, but difficult to tell as the labels just had Nike Stiff written on them - plus I removed them for a cleaner look some time ago smile

Off the flightscope numbers I was averaging a 7ft higher flight with the KBS which was noticeable to our eyes. I just felt the Dynamic Gold was a bit more "spinny" and the flight had more of a low to high look rather than the penetrating one I got with the KBS. I've got the Rifle shafts in my current irons and what I liked about both the DG and the KBS is that I could feel where the head was all the way through the swing. I tried a project X and it felt horrific! Also when I went back to hitting my own iron that felt terrible too!!!

I wanted the Lamkin Crossline full chord but the club I used for the fitting had a golf pride tour velvet full chord which I liked so gone for them with 2 layers of tape smile

interesting the KBS has a higher flight but that it was only 7ft, which was still noticeable! That's around 2 yards isn't it? Or just over? You must have good eyes! I know what you mean with feeling the head through the swing, makes a big difference to be aware of your positioning etc. Probably part of the reason a lot of amateurs (certainly higher handicappers) struggle with controlling drivers...I feel a lot more disconnected swinging my driver than I do with irons.

Ha to be honest I was surprised it was noticeable too but I'd hit 5 or 6 shots and just asked if it was flying higher as it appeared so (may have just been the flight I was getting with it giving that perception) and he said it was!

Funny how you can notice it though! As 7ft really doesn't sound like much.

Went to the range last night, all the irons were really flying whilst still being controlled, was picking targets and constantly getting a 10-15 yard dispersion, which was nice! Driver was another matter. Was leaking everything right again, which is annoying as I prefer to see a draw! Something that creeps into my game when i don't play enough, think the driver might stay at home on Saturday!

What's your handicap fella? Your spec is very similar to mine however mine are titleist and I run the 3iron which was part of the set.

I play off scratch. It'll be the first time I've had a forged "players" type hybrid as I've always got on with my long irons but it's a great club and if it goes well I'll look at changing the 4 iron too smile

Played 9 holes today, shot 4 over the card 39.

Happy with that considering I feel like crap!
