I went from a GPS to a laser. Garmin S1 to Bushnell V3. I love the precise measurement you get with lasers. No having to think about adding or subtracting yards to get your clubbing. Im also a flag hunter and this helps massively. (maybe that comes more down to handicap ability than laser vs GPS)
Routine wise its easy. Get to your ball, grab the Laser off the case hanging off my bag. Quick zap, and then into your normal routine. Just as quick as using GPS.
I can't see myself ever going back to a GPS device.
Exactly how I feel, laser is just so much better. Routine wise its easy. Get to your ball, grab the Laser off the case hanging off my bag. Quick zap, and then into your normal routine. Just as quick as using GPS.

Also gives live feedback on your yardages for the day, hit a flag at 150y, hit your shot and you can judge how far you're hitting, pending on the pitch mark. It's so beneficial, and so quick compared to gps.

Played the Forest of Arden on Friday. Only the Aylesford though.
Very nice, well looked after but tough.
Very tough.
In happier news - won a four ball at Close House in Newcastle, either course.

What's the best way for newbies to pick up new clubs. I currently have a set of MacGregor Irons, and Woods which I bought off a friend a few years back and while they are ok, some of the irons have seen better days, the woods are the same. Putter and wedges are randoms makes.
Been playing for a few years but this year quit football so wanting to get properly into golf.
Can't afford a new set, so been looking on ebay and golf bidder and happy to build a set over time but not sure the best approach. Irons first? Or driver first?
Also looking on eBay/Golf Bidder loads of options but I have no idea how to tell what's a good brand, type and whether I'm getting a good deal.
Any advice on the best approach??

I have a nice set of ping G2s which would make a decent set of starter irons. Could do a deal!Been playing for a few years but this year quit football so wanting to get properly into golf.

I'd start with irons. Get some cavity backed ones, made for handicappers of your standard. If price is an issue, go for something like Wilson Fat Shafts. Great irons for the price, and forgiving. Loads on eBay. Been playing for a few years but this year quit football so wanting to get properly into golf.

For a driver, you need to make sure you get the right shaft flex. If you're and average swing speed golfer, make sure it's a regular flex. Some of the old Callaways and King Cobra are good value. Or some of the older Pings, eg G15.
A putter is very personal, and you need to decide between blades type or mallet. Try some at your local shop and go from there.
You can add wedges as your game develops.
Another thing to consider at some point is a hybrid. Generally higher handicappers struggle to hit 3,4,5 irons. Hybrids are a substitute and generally easier to hit.

If you want a driver, I've got a ping G25 I can sell. It's a very forgiving club. I bought it from Rosscow on here, but have changed to a different driver now that suits me a bit better. Been playing for a few years but this year quit football so wanting to get properly into golf.

For a beginner it's ideal. Stiff flex shaft, but honestly flex doesn't make all that much difference, and for a stiff flex it's not actually that stiff. It's the weight that makes the difference in the feel.
They start at around £120 on golfbidder. I'd let it go for a good bit less than that.
