I think the traditional gi based BJJ is on a steady decline in popularity but as everything seems to be more geared towards MMA now a general hybrid wrestling/no gi bjj/submission grappling style is more and more popular. Certainly in our club we see this more, the no gi classes in various guises are much more popular than the gi based BJJ sessions.

Purple belt under Neil White at Doncaster Martial Arts, although I am on a break from training still since messing up my shoulder quite badly a few weeks ago. I will come back to it eventually but for now the want is not there.

I prefer the no-gi grappling myself.

The gi is a finger-destroying hangover from the "Eastern mysticism" of Japanese arts.

As a judoka, I found the transition to no-gi quite challenging on my single foray into competition, similar but different skill sets.
