I think you have to be careful - distances off a mat indoors are not the sam as you'll hit off turf outside. It's also very forgiving (if you hit a fat one, for example).
Save your £30, take some balls either to the club practice ground or even a large park, hit some balls with different clubs and measure. Much more accurate!

So wrong Rosscow! Save your £30, take some balls either to the club practice ground or even a large park, hit some balls with different clubs and measure. Much more accurate!
Golf is all about carry distance, you'll never get that with your park example, and besides, I can't think of a park that allows 200yard shots!
Golf Sims give you real data, if you swing a six iron at 85mph, there is a mathematical distance that you can carry that shot. It's fact based, and so useful.
Anyone not having a gap test and loft lie check at the beginning of a season, is doing themselves a disservice.
Everyone I know hits there 7 iron 150yards until a gap test

I hit my 7 iron about 165-170 yards on the simulators. I know that I don't on the course!
Of course, this might not be an error. You tend to swing harder/faster when on simulators - because it doesn't matter what happens.

Crikey, you're a proper long dog Rosscow! I hit my 7 iron about 165-170 yards on the simulators. I know that I don't on the course!

Is that carry or total? Total figure is utterly pointless imo, apart from 3-wood and dog.
Majority of golfers will see shorter numbers, in particular when looking at the carry numbers.

Well I'm not really, and this is my point! I think I'm pretty average, I carry my 7 iron around 155-160 on a good hit. The simulators always have me carrying longer than I do 'outside'! Is that carry or total? Total figure is utterly pointless imo, apart from 3-wood and dog.

Still a work in progress here. Pretty much hit 100% draws today at the range. Possibly a bit too much draw, but what I liked was how much more consistent my direction and shot shape shape was. Before I could hit fade draw straight and have no idea where it was going.
Caught it a little fat which turned it a bit more.

How does the app know where the ball went and the distance? You can see the ball on the video until it hits the apex of the climb then it disappears from the screen. Do you have to go in and tell the app roughly where it landed or does it guesstimate? Caught it a little fat which turned it a bit more.

Just back from a day at Effingham GC. Firstly, a lovely course in great nick. Lots of re-bunkering going on and come next spring it will be an awesome test.
Format was 4-ball stableford, two best points count on each hole, full handicaps. Our team shot 92 points, for second place. I managed 39 points off 14, with one blob. Won a nice prize of an Under Armour Coolgear sweater.
Learnt today that my 3 wood gets me in better positions on the course than the driver, which is too hit and miss.
Downside of the day? We lost to a team captained By Simon Lazenby of Sky F1.

Picked one of these up last week second hand for £100. I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while.
I’d wondered how much nicer they could really feel compared to my ping anser, as I’d only ever picked them up in shops, but I’ve used it now, and the answer is lots.
I seem to be able to either aim it better or keep the face square more as it’s instantly improved my putting within 10 feet or so. I prefer the extra weight and the fact it’s counter balanced.
The problem now is stopping myself starting a collection. I’m a bit of a magpie for golf gear. Always looking for the next shiny treat.

I guess you were happy with your Ping Anser on the day you bought it?
(4-5 putters here, and not much loyalty. They are all conspiring against me.)

I'm not doubting it has had a positive effect, but I can't help suspecting a new putter is akin to the 'new manager bounce' effect in football. As long as your old one fitted you properly.

Possibly. I played again today and still felt as if I was on line with putts I thought I should be troubling the hole with. I’m not really missing anything 10ft and in by more than 2 or 3 inches. I used to have some big wides with my Anser that confused the hell out of me. I guess you were happy with your Ping Anser on the day you bought it?

I guess time will tell.
I think the 38” shaft helps. I used to be very hunched over the Anser. I’m 6’5”.
I only have the Anser because a friend of mine didn’t want it and sold it to me for £15. Far less than it was worth, obviously. It was much nicer than what I had at the time, but it never really suited me.
1 putter here (an old SnakeEyes). Had it checked for fitting, got it tweaked and put a different grip on it. Had a 2 hour lesson a few years back with Matt at The London Putting Academy (Royal Blackheath GC) and putting is one of the better parts to my game.
I never have the inclination to change my putter. Spend the money on a session with Matt instead!

I was generally meaning when a new putter seems like the answer to one's putting woes, but actually improving technique and mindset is the answer to putting woes.
The new putter injects a bit of enthusiasm and optimism, which has a measurable positive effect, but quickly wears off.
This nonsense is how I get to 4-5 putters and still can't putt.
