I'm sticking that on my CV as a job title rofl

Jim is right though, that's a round to be pleased with still and 40 putts over 18 holes really isn't that bad.

73 gross today and for reference, 31 putts. 14 front nine and 17 back nine.
Should sneak me down to 4.4.

Gross 76 today with 36 putts. Missed 8 putts within 6 foot, very frustrating as it could easily have been an under par round. First time I've ever played a round and found the fairway every time with the driver, unheard of for me

Played my first round this year yesterday.

Got round in 106. 63 on the front 9 and 43 on the back 9. The back 9 really did make me happy and I can't wait to get back out there again!

Hi all,

So after getting into golf again properly last year I've bitten the bullet and joined my local course as a member. Due to my youthful age it was a no brainer based on the reduced membership fee versus standard green fee prices.

Question for you all, having never been a member I've never had an official handicap, although I know it will be in the mid 20s, as I often play a round on my own in the evenings how would I go about getting signed scorecards to get a handicap?

Cheers
Ash

Either put your name on the board to play a few weekend competitions (this is the better option) (obviously you won't be actually 'in' the competition, but the lads you're playing with will be able to sign your card).

or mention your plight to the Hcap secretary, and he'll arrange for you to play three 6-hour rounds with Gerald, Derek and Carol to get your cards in.

And if you're still keen on golf after that, you'll be hooked for life.

You've got to be open to playing with new people (of all ages). Its by far the best way to "fit in" quickly at a new club.
If you don't embrace it, you'll slowly come to hate it and just give up. Playing by yourself or with mates only quickly becomes very boring.

When I joined my current club, I knew 1 person out of 800 members. I threw myself into playing with all sections, with anybody and everybody. It took a full season to fully feel at home, but now I have some very good friends both inside and out of golf. Wouldn't change a thing atm. love it.

After a 6 year gap, I finally have a new club... Yesterday I had my induction as an Artisan at New Zealand Golf club in West Byfleet, Surrey after 3.5 years on the waiting list.

It's fabulous course (played it many times with a good friend who's an Artisan), incredible value for money (both subs and bar fees), and a really top bunch of blokes (only 50 members)... just need to get my game up to scratch now.

3 cards due over the coming weeks *gulp*
Bit of delay in getting the cards in due to weather/holidays/family etc, but finally got them in over the last 3 weekends. Bit nerve wracking as 1) I haven't played against the card for >6 years, and 2) they had to be marked by a committee member.

1st week, Saturday morning, 7.15am, playing with the Secretary and one of his mates who I'd never met before... chucked a 10 in on the 1st... not the start I'd hoped for! But got a bit better as the round went on and finished with a card that would give me c.22 HC.

2rd round struck the ball much better, but had a bit of a mare chipping and putting, and scored worse than the 1st round.

3rd round played better again (drove the ball miles - hit every fairway on the back 9), but missed 5 or 6 makeable putts (inside 6ft).

Think I'll end up around 19-20, which gives me something to come down from. Now looking forward to relaxing in to the club and playing regularly.

Playing at Swinley Forest in an inter-club match Saturday afternoon.

Artisan membership has its privileges biggrin

After being out of the country for the past few weeks I fear I won't be playing for a while.

Got a very big exam in about 5 weeks time and not that much longer left to try and cram the info into my head!!!

We desperately need some rain. Shot a 77 today but it was hard work on rock hard greens. A number of chips that looked good were bouncing off in all directions, very hard to make anything stick near to the pin.

What do people think about]ut the talk of the Americans pushing to cancel the Ryder Cup in France and move it to St Andrews due to terrorist risks. The National is on my doorstep so will be gutted if it is moved. The organisers should tell them if they do not want to turn up then they forefit the competition.
I hope it is just a bit of posturing to get increased security.

Guys, some pointers....

Need to try and sort out a work charity golf day, but with some complication!

Need to find a course able to accommodate ~20-30 people on a weekend, ~15 minutes from/inside the M25 at a cost of ~£40-50pp that is actually a good course to play/in good condition etc.

Like most, my own course (Sundridge Park) likely won't take guests unless accompanied by a member, even then much harder if at a weekend! (weekend essential due to nature of work - markets & staff cover etc)

Time is likely to be early September.

Can anybody recommend anywhere?

Swinley Forest... drive through the gates, and go back in time 100 years. It has such a charm.

Some changes since I last played it c.8 years ago (car park has been tarmaced, some new tees, some trees gone, a lot of rhodies cut back), but nothing that spoils Colt's original design... it's a trully spectacular course, with stunning par 3's and beautiful views.

Despite its lack of length (6,000 yards, par 68), it's a pretty tough course - much easier off the tee than my home club, New Zealand, but the 2nd shots are so difficult - small greens, lots of slope, very well bunkered. And with no rain in weeks, almost impossible to stop the ball if you land it on the green... puts big pressure on your short game.

Very enjoyable match against Swinley Artisans... NZL won, and we won our match 3&2. Neither my partner or 1 played particularly well, but we managed to dovetail effectively.

I now have an unbeaten record in club matches biggrin

Someone just needs to tell them about the SNP.

I was on a small (weekday) golf day at Temple Golf Club a while ago - 15/20 minutes down the M4 from the M25. Was good, course in decent nick, nice food etc, and they accept visitors at the weekend so may well be able to accommodate.

Played in my first team match on Sunday in the North Staffs Alliance, and was selected to play the away game at Crewe Golf Club - lovely place effectively in the middle of nowhere, nice wide course, but very dry after the hot weather they'd been having.

Successfully fought off the nerves on the first tee (with a little help from Carling), only for them to come back in the middle of the first fairway and me to shank an 8 iron into a tree. Steadyed the ship and started contributing on the 3rd, was a great match, all 4 of us coming in at different points, and birdies needed to win.

Long story short we got to the 17th tee Dormi 2 down, I won that with a birdie, then off to the 18th tee. I push it right into the trees, but thinking there was another fiarway over there, didn't worry too much. Partner hooks his into a tree, never to be seen again, my ball ends up a foot onto a cart path - which I later find out was OOB frown

So went out with a whimper, but a very enjoyable day and considering the team got stuffed, not too disappointed to take it to the 18th.
