Well done Rosscow, your oppo have a stinker? 8up is a battering.
Played Woodall Spa on saturday (its a beast, not for hackers) and then an open at Cleveland on the sunday (tough with the wind up)
Was nice to play a different style of course, but looking forward to getting back to a parkland.

Hah. Well we went back last Friday. Played a great front 9 holes, played 6 really good holes for my standard (1 over or par). Then it all went to st and hit a load of terrible holes on the back 9 ( played a few 10s which was heart breaking). Went around in 110 (6 shots down on my last game). It was very windy and we had load of hold ups. But the most important thing was that I enjoyed it and played some great shots including a few great chips on to the greens. Made the green on one of the par 3s which was a good feeling. . Consistency is a big problem. Still slicing the driver a lot which I need to fix asap as that really is hindering me.
I've got the bug totally.
The quickest way to fix a slice with your driver/3 wood is to leave it in the car...i bet you'd be the right side of 100 if you did...I've got the bug totally.

95% of high handicappers could be 5/6 shots lower if they just left the drivers alone! I play off 12 and struggle with my driver at times so it gets left in the car some rounds...I know a player who plays off 4 who doesn't actually own a driver...just a 3 wood & he's not particularly long either..

Would like to play Woodhall Spa, a bit of a trek for me though. Will have to make a weekend of it.
We have the Sussex Artisan Championships soon, 36 holes on both courses at Royal Ashdown Forest. Should be good.

Tomorrow is our Club 'day out' - 27 holes at East Sussex National with lunch between and dinner after. Can't wait!

Bit of a calm before the storm for us at the moment, got a couple of weekends with no competitions before Cliub Championship on the 8th/9th. Had a game with me mate off 6 on Sunday, was 3 down with 5 to play, and ended up winning 2 up - great for confidence. Have fully changed my putting grip now - have gone for the Garcia style Claw and it's working wonders - didn't feel like I could miss on Sunday. Got a couple of weeks to see how it develops before the big comps, but so far, so good.
Then on the 15th going to play in the Men's Open at Penn Golf Club just south of Wolves, then on the 23rd I've signed up for 36 holes round Conwy. Looking forward to both, not so much walking round 36 in one day, but looking forward to the comps.

I also changed to the claw last night, i cannot get over how much it transformed by st putting!
Any 4- 6 ft put feels like a tap in, i was also holing some long putts.
As my right elbow is sticking out it stops me from swinging back too far and makes me accelerate much better thru the stroke and much better strike.
My advice to anyone who struggles with putting is try it.

My mrs has bought me and a mate tickets for Saturday at the Open. She's a keeper!
I've never been to a proper golf event. Any tips for getting the most out of the day?
VERY comfortable shoes. I've never been to a proper golf event. Any tips for getting the most out of the day?
Mix it up between following a group for a while, and sitting in a nice spot and watching a few groups come through.
Standing close to the big boys when they're using a driver is good fun.
I'll also be at The Open on Saturday. Looking forward to it a lot.
Played some good golf on Wednesday at East Sussex National.
Was on fire for the first 6 holes of the mornings individual 9 hole stableford, 2 birdies, 2 pars and 2 bogeys. With 17 points standing on the 7th tee proceeded to lose my ball off the tee, scraped a point on the 8th and then lost my ball off the tee on the 9th!! Grrr.... finished with 18 points and the winner had 20.
Played some good stuff in the afternoons 4 ball better ball, but we only managed to get 38 points. The winning pair got 47 points (with one of them playing off of 3 scoring 41 points - helped by 5 birdies and 2 eagles!!). You can't argue with that.

Took the advice on here... left the driver in the car. Did some practice on the driving range and was hitting consistent 180 yards with a 4 iron. Great.
Onto the course... played terrible.... seems like hitting 7 was order of the day. Par 3? 7.. Par 5? 7.... not good.
Bought a Callaway BB 2014 Fubuki shaft driver by accident... still looking for some irons.

Played at Redbourn today. Nice course. Really happy as my target for the last 2 weeks has been to break 100. I went around in 90, which I am pretty happy with considering its only my 4th round on a proper golf course.
New clubs are great, love them. I could do with getting them re-gripped... is it easy enough to DIY them or is it best left to someone who. knows what they are doing?

I thought I was getting the hang of it a bit but the last couple of weeks or so have been a bit torrid for me, too much wind, too much water, comps off white tees and different courses meant I couldn't seem to find any concentration on making my shots and the balls were going everywhere.
Played a bit better on Friday and Saturday and finally worked out where my everything was going wrong, with no sunshine I had been using my regular clear varifocal glasses and to see the ball I was properly leaning over too much and bending my neck which meant that on my backswing my shoulder was moving my chin backwards.
The last few days of sunshine has brought out my purpose made varifocal sunnies again and everything has improved, I'm standing a bit taller and my head is higher so today my driving was longer and straighter, hybrids and irons were all working well and the new wedges are a delight, we only played 11 holes and I shot 6 pars, 3 bogeys and two doubles which was pretty pleasing.
There is still a lot to learn but it's amazing how small things make such a difference, I think I may be ordering another pair of glasses though, same as the sunnies but with clear or almost clear lenses should do the trick, I'm really beginning to like golf as it provides endless opportunities to spend lots of money on new toys.

That's a real talent, I started very late in life but it took me 2 years and a few lessons before I broke 100 and I've never got near 90.New clubs are great, love them. I'll be interested to see what you have that down to in a year or so.
