Won a 4bbb medal with my little brother at the weekend. Nett 58 (par71). Best of all it was a board comp too. So we got our names on the board together.
Then came 2nd in a charity event at Scarborough south cliff yesterday (in driving rain, never played in such poor conditions and I'm an all season golfer) PP had a hole in 1 too.
Used some of my winnings to buy 3 new Ping Glide 2.0 wedges.

Well done Rosscow, your oppo have a stinker? 8up is a battering.
Played Woodall Spa on saturday (its a beast, not for hackers) and then an open at Cleveland on the sunday (tough with the wind up)
Was nice to play a different style of course, but looking forward to getting back to a parkland.

Haven't popped in for a while. Been playing for too much golf. Just hit 110 rounds for the year.
Won 2 opens (Mixed Am-Am), 2 seconds in Opens (individual). Hit some form and crept down to 4 handicap. (might even sneak to 3 with a few more decent rounds)
Through to 2 finals for knockout comps and semi's for the other 3.
Signed for a PP's 50 point round (23 handicapper, feet chopped off to 17 after all said and done)

Just back from a weeks golf in Cyprus. 7 rounds completed.
5 @ Elea, 1 @ Secret Valley & a quick blast @ Aphrodite Hills.
A nice end to this years golf. Been a pretty good year, had a decent swing/game all year. Handicap moved from 4.2 to 3.8 (High of 5.2 and low of 3.5)
4 matchplay finals, sadly only won 1.
Lots of open's played with a couple of wins.
Now it time to stick the practice in a look at new gear for next season. New irons are top of the list as mine are 4 years old and showing the 500+ rounds they've completed, then possibly Driver/woods.

I think you have to be careful - distances off a mat indoors are not the sam as you'll hit off turf outside. It's also very forgiving (if you hit a fat one, for example).
Save your £30, take some balls either to the club practice ground or even a large park, hit some balls with different clubs and measure. Much more accurate!
So wrong Rosscow! Save your £30, take some balls either to the club practice ground or even a large park, hit some balls with different clubs and measure. Much more accurate!
Golf is all about carry distance, you'll never get that with your park example, and besides, I can't think of a park that allows 200yard shots!
Golf Sims give you real data, if you swing a six iron at 85mph, there is a mathematical distance that you can carry that shot. It's fact based, and so useful.
Anyone not having a gap test and loft lie check at the beginning of a season, is doing themselves a disservice.
Everyone I know hits there 7 iron 150yards until a gap test
Some sims can give true data. But most of them do not track a ball but simply use a mathematical equation to 'guess' the spin numbers through impact conditions and club head speed. Thus giving out false readings. There are also other parameters that can be altered to give truer reflections of your distance but more often than not they are just set to perfect.

That’s not true- they take a series of pictures during launch so they know the speed and spin rates, they just use that to guess the resulting flight.
but its just the same, using pre inputted data to give you a result. You often can't fit certain clubs that use the system you've pointed out. (wedges normally)Bought a new shaft for my 5 wood. I’ve had a Diamana Blueboard in it for years but it’s always ballooned if I hit it full. As it was so easy to hit High I’ve never had worry to change it. The new irons have caused gapping issues at the top end of the bag meaning I need to eek out extra yards.
Cue a X Stiff Rogue 100 MSI. Should hopefully allow me to hit it full and grab the extra yardage to bring the gaps back to right.

Interesting, how did you go about getting fitted for a new shaft in an existing club? I'm wanting to go down to Driver and a single fairway wood so I can fill the rest of my bag with irons - currently have Vapor Fly 3 and 5 wood with Blueboards in also, and the 5 wood would be great if I could keep the bloody thing down....
Also, I'm looking at purchasing a Rangefinder. I've had a look on Amazon and there are the usual Bushnell options, however there do seem to be cheaper models available, including one from Nikon that looks interesting - does anyone have any experience with the cheaper stuff?

A playing partner had one in his 3 wood. Used that a few occasions, so thought it worthwhile for a punt. Quick look about eBay netted me one. Also, I'm looking at purchasing a Rangefinder. Turns out its perfect. Made a once redundant club my go to club. love it. Now searching for one to slip into my hybrid.
Disto wise. Great choice, I have a Bushnell V3. Which i only have as I had winnings to spend in the pro shop and he only sells Bushnells. If I had to buy one I'd have the exact one you've bought.

Are there any tips for short game in these crappy wet muddy conditions? I am scared of getting the club stuck in the ground and the ball going 3 yards (hence me thinning lots of shots)
I’m one for using the same technique in winter and summer. Apart from 1 thing. I’ll lay the club well open before gripping it. Giving the club more bounce and attempt to remove the leading edge from the equation. If your only just off a green try and practice the belly wedge. Works really really well and judging pace with practice is very easy.
Shot a gross level today. 4 bogies, 2 birdies and a eagle up the last.
Putter was on fire. Only 27 putts. Lowest ever for me

Evening all,
First comment on this thread.
I'm a 12 HC (cards in for the first time last summer).
I got fitted for new irons on Friday, cant wait to get my mits on my new clubs.
Turns out, i've been playing with clubs that are an inch too short for the last 20 years!
1/4 or 1/2 inch I'd say no issue. But a whole inch makes a huge huge difference. It may take a wee while to get used to the difference.(your 7 iron will feel more like your 5/4 iron in hand)First comment on this thread.

This made me laugh, previous posts about people struggling with different parts of their game get loads of replies, jamesnotjim casually drops in nearly a week ago that he shot level gross and everybody ignores it!!
James, especially given the time of year, that is top bombing!! 27 putts is some going.
Its par the norm for lower guys, thanks all the same James, especially given the time of year, that is top bombing!! 27 putts is some going.
Playing well isn't about the wins or accolade but more about how low can I go myself.
for example, I shot level gross and got 40 points... but placed 8th. The winner that day...........a 28 handicapper that shot 51 points!
