I don't get the whole disliking the Lions thing.
Maybe its just me but having something instead of the normal summer tours, something to bridge the 4 year world cup wait, is something to hold onto and cherish.
Bringing together the home nations which, outside of the athletics is pretty rare, & it clearly means a lot to the hosts (financially if nothing else!).
Without some traditions Rugby would be a worse sport. The Baa Baas and the Lions may be an anachronism but I wouldnt want to be without them.
Its a fine line between keeping tradition and keeping up with the times, increasing pressure on player welfare needs to be a strong consideration but, however its achieved, the Lions must go on.
The players also seem to love it, the pinacle of many a career, which is why i dont see it going anywhere. If the players didnt care then it might be a different story.
I don't dislike them, I just don't much see the point to them in a world where the constituent nations from which they draw their players will generally be better prepared than they will.Maybe its just me but having something instead of the normal summer tours, something to bridge the 4 year world cup wait, is something to hold onto and cherish.

I also personally think of myself as English first and British second, so to me, the Lions are a dilution, not the pinnacle.

You might want to try running that opinion past every single player that has ever played at elite level I also personally think of myself as English first and British second, so to me, the Lions are a dilution, not the pinnacle.
