Leinster play their semi at The Aviva.

But if Sarries had won their 1/4 final, where would their semi final against Exeter have be held? Yes, Ashton Gate.

The whole thing this year is outrageously rigged in favour of Leinster!

Assuming they make the final, guess what? They become the only team ever to get a home final! Every other team always has to play in a neutral venue, but Leinster are special!

Okay, I get that there aren't any big football stadiums in Ireland and they've got to share the final location around the participating nations, but why not play at Croke Park so at least it's not a Leinster home fixture?

Rigged ? But of course.

Probably because the Stonex only seats a pitifully small 10k as opposed to the much larger capacity at Ashton Gate.

You're confusing "rigged" and "organised".

How else would you put it?

No other club in the championship has ever been allowed to have the final at a home ground, and Leinster absolutely play enough of their home fixtures at the Aviva to consider it a home stadium.

As a Quins fan, I'd also understand anyone viewing it as unfair if we got to a final at Twickenham, as it does without doubt convey an advantage.

You can call it whatever you want, but it doesn't change the fact that the organisers have looked at the fairly significant possibility of Leinster getting to a final at home which no other team would ever be allowed and said "fair enough, let's go with it".

The final was scheduled to be in the Aviva this season.

That's it.

Hardly "rigged".

That's my point though. It shouldn't be scheduled at the Aviva if Leinster are in the tournament, because it gives them a significant unfair advantage.

What about the year when Exeter won it without leaving the west country? Was that "rigged" too?

It just doesn’t need to be like this. I cannot think of another sport, whose premier club cup competition guarantees two teams knockout home ties all the way to the final. It has to change, otherwise there will always be an asterisk against any club who wins the trophy this way.

Hmm... let me see...

Is Exeter winning a final at Ashton Gate, a stadium at which they've never been the home side and where they'd only previously played 3 times, I believe, the same as...

Leinster, who, if they make it to the final this year, will have played twelve home Heineken Cup knock out games at the Aviva in the past decade, including this season's round of 16, quarter final and semi final!

On balance, I think we can safely say no, it's absolutely not the same at all, and if Leinster make the final, it should be moved to a neutral venue.

But they earned all of those knockout home ties, this year's final aside, by being good and being the top seed. That's not "rigged" in the slightest; it's the tournament format, and has been for a number of years.

Just like in Exeter's winning year when they played home knockout ties all the way to a final that was an hour up the road from their home stadium. Racing 92 (the other finalists) might have had a moan about that, but they just got on with it.

I find it hard to take the "rigged" wibbling seriously when it's been 5 years since Leinster won it.

Are you really comparing Exeter winning the knockout stages at an empty Sandy Park during lockdown 2020 and then a final at an empty Ashton Gate with Leinster playing all their knockout games in front of their home crowds at the Aviva?

Ah but maybe that's why they rigged it !!! Any chance they could host the final in Thomond Park anytime soon smile

On a point of order, and speaking as a Plymouth Albion supporter, Ashton Gate is not the Westcountry. It’s THE NORTH.

Chiefs should have had extra money for undertaking a hardship posting.
