So me and a bunch of guys are heading to Ragley Hall from Thursday evening on the 24th June.

It’s for the Adventure Bike Rider weekend festival, I’m really looking forward to getting out and about again!

One of The guys on the Facebook page posted this picture of his rod on his bike.

Seems that adventure bike riders are often Fly Fishermen too!

I intend to do the same but I will use my compact greys travel rod packed up in its travel tube, bit more practical!

That could put somebody's eye out ..some might say .

Anyway , fishing - an awful , cold dry April meant my rivers were on their bones and not worth fishing . May was mainly cool and very wet , but at least , when fishable , the rivers were on fine form and I've had several 15- 25 fish days , mainly on upstream nymph , but with some fish on mayfly last week . No monsters , but lovely wild browns from little 'uns to a pound and a half , with some thumping out of season, but well-mended grayling too.

The Lea has a reputation for huge chub and perch , and if you can find a suitable stretch for fly or light lure fishing you may get some sport. The Wild Trout Trust (which any lover of native trout should join ) may have some info on the area too .

I've read all this thread over the last couple of days and it's definitely my favourite on here. I don't have much experience of fly fishing other than a few hill loch sessions in Kintyre as a nipper, but lure fishing is very much my thing, although preferably of the sea variety. It was said that as a youngster I could recite the Shakespeare catalogue from cover to cover rofl I do have a reasonable fly setup (Shakey Sigma), but I'm certain I'll need new line - any recommendations as to what's good these days between £20-30? My wife's an art teacher and she's very keen to learn fly tying, so that;ll be her next birthday sorted! I did used to have fly tying kit, but absolutely no idea where it is now.

Anyway, after a very long time of not fishing, I'm getting back into it. Weedless soft plastics are new to me, so I've got a couple that I'm looking forward to trying at Eyemouth & St Abbs this Sunday, along with my trusty Toby's and Dexters. It's not a great time of year for it, but I'm reliably informed that there are Saithe to be had, and they're a good eating fish as long as they're fresh, so fingers crossed. Nigel - I've got (somewhere) an Abu Diplomat rod too! Caught a 6lb Pollack off the island of Cara with mine, on a silver 21g Toby. That same Toby caught me my first and only sea trout too...
I've bought quite a few lines from Barrio Fly Lines (https://flylineshop.com/) over the last few years and they seam good value for money; compared to the likes of Orvis, Cortland, etc.

You could try saltwater fly fishing. I spent a couple of days on an Orvis saltwater fly fishing weekend recently at Hayling Island. Quite large flies but a great few days, sadly no fish caught.

Oh and I forgot to post about my trip to Wales this week, some lovely locations on the Dyfi river just a few miles from our holiday cottage!

There's something of my game about sea trout fishing in the salt.

Thanks! I hadn’t spotted that one as I don’t keep an eye on that thread.

There was a most excellent quote from the Whelp that was the guest on the last episode of Mortimer and Whitehouse gone fishing.

I’m probably mis quoting but it was along these lines.

“ Fishing is the closest you can get to a dream like state without actually falling asleep.”

That’s close enough for me!

I often take my bike fishing, but tend to split the rod and fasten it to the pillion footpeg!

That's nice. Does it catch much?

Looks in vain for bike-related fish pun getmecoat

Not much posted on here over the winter boys!

Well the new Fly Season is just around the corner, so who is planning on heading out and about?

I know I will be, this year I think I’m going to go and get some proper tuition to improve my casting and skills.

I think someone recommend a place up in Staffordshire?

I will see if I can find the name of the place.

Tight lines boys!

Shortly after my last post on thread I went to the Bahamas for 10 days, which was nice. Slightly strange trip, mind, not least because of travel regulations, but it all came off OK. It was ever so slightly out of body though - I spent quite a lot of time walking the Flats, and not casting, and certainly wasn't fishing with my usual intensity.

Odd story - we arrived in a lodge on Acklins Island and there was a group of 4 Americans already there. Over dinner, we exchanged the usual 'where are you from?' questions, and it took about 30 seconds to establish that they all knew my next door neighbour hehe
