Crumbs, obviously my original post was purely in jest when Saffers were 12/1, noted later that they were 3 down but appeared to be steadying the ship, just nipped out to check tyre pressures and levels, top up washers etc, just to keep it PH related, and Jimmy from the James Anderson end, Boom!

six down.

I've been out most of the day, but it looks like we've bowled better than we batted.

Eight down. Progress satisfactory
.

What's more important is that there will be plenty of opportunity for batting practice tomorrow, little pressure to score quickly. Tired Saffer bowling who, so long as we make a decent start, will be more concerned about the plane home. It's a great opportunity to show the selector how well you can bat. Or not. ...

Isn't that two in a row where Bairstow hasn't been good enough to stay in with Jimmy?
Crikey, that's a bit harsh.

I'd say YJB has put England in front in this one. 1 run shy of a century. Hard to criticise that IMO!

Others on the side need more of a look.

Anderson has bowled well. The Saffers don't really look up for it. Bavuma seems to be the only one with a bit of fight.

Cook and Root to score big. Jennings sub-20.

Stokes and Bairstow with another strong partnership both getting 50+.

Let's see if that jinx's it smile

We have the makings of a very good side if they keep their heads and apply themselves fully...except for a partner for Cook. Jennings should definitely have been dropped for this one to allow the possibility of giving a couple of others a go (if needed).

In fairness not many can stay in with the Burnley Lara, although I believe Jimmy has the most ducks AND the most not outs ...

Bairstow played it beautiful and had chance to make it, just bad selection on the last shot. Some other England bats need to have a look at themselves

Two teams playing badly ... helmet on, head sometimes popping above the trench

Game on.

We're batting with half a side at the moment, the selectors need to pull their finger out and quick. Jennings is averaging 15 ffs!

It's the experienced hands going out on soft shots that's more annoying.

Jennings has done nothing to justify his place from day 1. But the others should know better.

Come on Bairstow and Stokes...(although the latter's sounding shaky too).

I think the only way Jennings will be going to Australia this winter is if he books his ticket with Thomas Cook!! Has been woefully poor.

Worst case scenario, they stick with the same team for the West Indies, Jennings scores a hatful and they keep him for the ashes.

Not seen forecast tomorrow but worst case seems to be a draw at the moment. Followed it on text while sat "minding" the kids in Splash Landings (avoiding looking at the lovely sights on view <shudder>). Council.
