Looking forward to watching the first session from the WACA tonight before going to bed. Session starts at 9.30 and finishes at 11.30 so perfect. Pacers game will start at 7 and should finish between 9 and 9.30 so the evening is nicely sorted. beer

91/2. Decent first session, shame Vince went just before lunch. Liked his and Stoneman's positivity, especially against Lyon. Cookie is a worry...

How the fk was that out ?

What a site decision,

Surely the third umpire decision has to be beyond doubt to be given out .

Mind you i'd not fancy that barrage of bouncers we are getting.

This is just not out .

I think even the on field umpire knows someone has made a mistake here !

200/4

Decent effort from the lads. Cook increasingly looking shot, but I still back him to get a big knock in the 4th innings of a dead rubber.

long way to go

Additionally - I would [keegan] love it, just f*****g love it [/keegan] if we win this one, just to shut MV up. I have seriously lost a bit of respect for him, after the interview I saw last night. Running the team down and calling them students.

Need to concentrate here, would be ideal to get to the end of the day at only 4 down. Malan looking tired.

Outside this, great to see Stokes smashing them in the NZ league. 93 off 47 - pleased for him, not because of England. But for him personally. No idea whether the court case will come to anything, but it must be a nightmare of pressure on him. Hope he has learned his lesson.

Incidentally saw this on Twitter. Really?

The average speed of Australia's seam attack in this Test has been 142.85kph. That is the fastest of any team, for any match, in our entire database. Is pace overrated?

Bairstow to 3000 runs at an average of 40.00

For a late order bat, often stuck with managing the tail, this is a pretty decent effort.

Right, that is how you play test cricket !

305/4 on day one. Fantastic effort and really sets the match up. YJB and Malan will have lifted the spirits of the team massively. Really give Jimmy A and Broad something to work with.

Foot on the throat stuff, now we just need to keep it there. Aussie bowlers put real shift in today and will be feeling it tomorrow.

Great stuff, hope MV gets some stick from the team (or a headbutt/drink poured over him)

Really impressive and let's hope a new level for the remainder of the series. We may not win it but at least some pride will be restored.

Looking back through the last few tests at the WACA 300+ is a decent total for an innings in itself. For England it's not far of the combined score for both innings in several cases.

Australian errors cancelled out by the umpire's IMO.

Good fightback from Malan and Bairstow. Good to see Eng turn up and compete.

Aussie catching very poor - can't drop those at test level.

First 10 overs tomorrow will be key - Starc and Hazlewood winkle out 2-3 wickets, it will be insteresting.

Indeed, or Ali with a fast fifty ish

I think the forecast is for not much play on day 4 and 5, but we will see. Aussie quite capable of matching exceeding the England score on what looks a pretty flat/fast track

Sad to see no Vic (Jimmy) here and Billy the trumpet who has been replaced by a Australian trombone player who does not play, apparently he's back for the Boxing Day test. The beer prices are roughly $10 aud a schooner 450ml v 570ml (pint) so £7.50 a pint so no wonder the army are not so Barmy !

We needed that. We also need to keep plodding through most of tomorrow and properly wear out the Aussie bowlers.

100 for Bairstow. Great knock and a great partnership with Malan, the highest for the 5th wicket v Australia.
