So what are everyone's predictions? I'm beginning to think we might draw the series 2-2 and even win it outright if we could get Ben Stokes out there for the last couple of tests although it seems unlikely.

In other Aussie related news I'm delighted Jason Gillespie is taking over at Sussex!

That's pretty bold. I think the Aussie bowlers are being talked up massively by the Aussies at the moment, lots of chat about 97mph bouncers and ending test careers, getting Root dropped four years ago, blah blah.

Personally I'd love to see them getting hooked for six every time they drop short.

Anyway - point is I can't tell if it is over hyping their attack or if they have suddenly become a world class attack. Starc with nearly 150 test wickets at 28 is clearly pretty decent. Cummins and Hazlewood both average 25 so again are clearly sharp.

Will be interesting, I am not sure England have the mental fortitude for away series in Aus these days. I am going 3-1 Aussies.

Sorry !

If Stokes comes back I think we might be able to win, not just because of him but the balance of the side changes so much with a 3 way all rounder.

I can't see Jimmy doing much with the Kook ball, he never has in the past, let's hope he gets that pink thing working.

Broad is inconsistent at times, I think Woakes will end up being our main man and I do hope Wood gets back in the frame.

Moeen is our match winner with bat and ball.

Correct. England will probably bat first - 4 down for less than 50 by lunch. 600 - 4 by tea on Friday smile

I'm so annoyed its on BT Sport though!!!

just looked at maybe subscribing for the Ashes and saw the pundits include Vaughan and Ponting - I don't think I could stay awake.

I like the Sky Sports chaps

anyway - Jake Ball gets in ahead of Overton

bowling attack is
Anderson
Broad
Woakes
Ball
Ali

I've got that GBH first ball feeling!

Its criminal of English cricket to have failed completely to unearth another opener after Chef of proper standard.
To spend 2 yrs of "finding" Bell's replacement in the batting lineup, fail to do so and then not take him.
To have Morgan and Butler available and not find a way to develop them into test batsmen.
To have Roy and Hales available and not find a way to develop them into test batsmen.

Pitch a little green (by aus standards) due to wet weather during the last week or so. Apparently a few spots of rain in the air.

I hate to say it, but we may be better off bowling...

We are off !

pitch a little soft, let's hope Cook is in the mood today for a 38 not out after 90 overs...

Not a great start. Shocking camerawork on the replays as well, can't see how good a catch it was.

Not quite.

Interesting batting order Root has chosen. Looks like the summer tests didn't give any insight so we're left with pulling the order out of our arse.

I guess the hope is that the Aussie batting is as bad as everyone thinks it should be.

Vince batting like a right handed Gower...

Let's hope he gets past 30 smile

Looks like a 400+ wicket to me. Lyon could be key for Aus

Still raining.

Australians on channel 9 seem to be showing different classic ashes tests to the ones that get shown in the UK,

50 for Vince. Haven’t seen him or Stoneman before but impressed with both.

Able to watch England for the first time in 7 years thanks to Roku / Sling / Willow TV in USA.

I’ve streamed in the past but it’s generally been pretty crappy and sporadic. Willow is $10 a month through Sling and it’s 1080 HD on my 60in flat screen.
