Caldicot.

I backed Finian's Oscar @ The Festival and wasn't going to give it my money today - gutted! Wasn't going to make the same mistake with L'ami Serge. Only a few quid though.
Nice one with Lamithumbup just about trumped you with Clyne 33/1 third - good ol Evan Williams wink

Finished off a bloody good day with a very very lucky footy bet.....

Lucky because as you can see I placed a £24 bet instead of a £2.40 fun bet and cashed out immediately for a £10 loss!!! Then played catch up to get my tenner back - happy days

Beware of Strongbow and fat fingers rofl

Nice one Gents, seem like a couple had a decent day yesterday. I backed WHAD and GKM in the last... Also backed a couple of losers so ended up on slightly up for the day!
What we on today? Bouveril in the 4:05 and then Global Citizen in the next. Best of luck as always!!

Buywise and Shantou Flyer here both Welsh trainers.

As you know the National is a "bookies race" and they will be raking in it so here's my stategy that most punters are not aware of.........

rather than do the conventional each way bet (which is actually 2 separate bets) back your horse to win with faller insurance then back it again to place only. You'll get slightly lower odds though thumbup

PS. All of my other bets will be at other meetings mainly on the flat wink

Small ew bet @ 40/1 on Babytaggle 2:15 Chepstow

Trained by a rogue called Dai Williams who is an old mate of mine who used to run my local pub but has now gone back training horses. I say "training horses" but we've also said "he couldn't train ivy up a fking wall" !!

This is purely a loyalty bet and not a tip - but he has been known to pull one out of the hat.

Punchestown!!

Any fancies anyone? Anyone going?

Fair amount of early money for Sharjah in the 4:20, Getabird drifiting ever so slightly. Fav for a Supreme surely means it has the talent imo but 11/10 too short for me.

Min/Douvan/UDS will be a good watch for Willie at 5:30. I think Douvan was travelling really well in the CC at Cheltenham and will be backed in massively but cannot see Min getting beat.

Design Matters in the 6:05 backed in to 50's from 100's at this time in amorning so will have a couple £ ew just in case I think. No idea why though - trainer won this in 16 & 17 according to RP?

Then finally Shattered Love in the 6:40 I think after the Chelt performance. Rathvinden may be an ew shout.

I too thought Douvan was traveling extremely well when he came down. Min has a had a busy season so one to avoid for me (you can't back them all). Have heard there has been rain over there today so have gone for Douvan/UDS reverse FC.

Gary OBrien tipped it up this AM on ATR and also one of RacingPete's picks on twitter. The general consensus as to why it has shortened dramatically.

I leave Irish racing well alone when it comes to gambling!

B ut I do fancy the old veteran Lutine Charlie at 22/1 ew in the 17:55 Brighton even though my favorite trainer Dave Evans has the favorite Harry Beau running in it.

Ah I see! Well PP paid out 4 places with £2.50 ew on it at 50's so that compensated for the otherwise bad day I had! That UDS/Douvan FC was a good bet in the end

I had Vision des Flos in the 16:20 on an each way which was a good start... unfortunately it all went downhill from there, culminating in Monalee (ridden by a friend of my Dad's) falling at the 2nd last fence whilst in the lead of the 18:40 and then Finians Oscar (an e/w I had) being taken out in the same race.

A bad day overall.

Yeah pretty unlucky there. Absolutely unbelievable with what happened with Townsend, looked completely deliberate and 21 day ban sounds comical. No idea what he was trying to do? Wouldn't be surprised if they had given him 6 month tbh.

Anyone backing him today? Or does anyone fancy Melon?

Cannot see him getting beat at all myself, I'm very much in the 'believe the hype' camp. I know its a different race to what he's used to today but the horse is incredible.

Today's result will confirm whether he is the second coming, as the hype would have you believe. Probably a no bet race for me.

17:50 Chepstow Maguires Glen is the rank outsider but with only four runners and the going getting worse by the hour (pissing down here) who knows! Tenner win and a £2 reverse forecast with Lord Byron.
