Don't you just love golf!
Isn't it just - even the more frustrating as I used to pay off scratch prior to a shoulder injury....to get back to that standard one day!Blackpuddin said:
Monthly Stableford was downgraded to a rollup this morning because of heavy rain overnight and 4 temp greens, managed 36pts playing in a permanent raincloud. Went in only one bunker after trying to lay up (typical) but wasted three shots getting out of it aaargh. Really am going to have to sort out this bunker hoodoo somehow.
Got a cheap pencil bag the other day and am quite enjoying carrying (though a bit less so this morning while also trying to handle a brolly in the swirly rain). Not sure that brollies are worth the aggro in golf as it seems to be windy whenever it's rainy. Bought an expensive one a couple of months back and snapped it on the second round when the trolley took off and tipped over.
Blackpuddin - years back I went looking for a way to improve my bunker shots as the ball was either flopping back into the bunker or crossing the green like a scud missile. The video link below is what helped me, no affiliation etc. I didn’t know that I needed to open the face, and I was placing the ball in the centre of my stance rather than a few inches forward. Maybe won’t be a panacea for you in wet, heavy British sand, but for me here in Florida it did the trick! Good luck!Got a cheap pencil bag the other day and am quite enjoying carrying (though a bit less so this morning while also trying to handle a brolly in the swirly rain). What's he using now?
10 club deal with Honma:Honma driver, Honma utility 2 iron, Honma irons 4-9 and 3 Honma wedges.
Still has a TM 3 wood, a Vokey 60 degree wedge and an Axis1 putter. Still playing the TM ball I think.

Going against all the good advice I have received here, I picked up a secondhand Callaway Fusion driver for £100.
Went to the range on Monday and it went surprisingly well.
Took it to the course today and it went straighter than my irons have done, straight down the middle for 220 yards!

I saw these being recommended on Golfvlogs and have been checking them out, the prices are attractive and I'm far from convinced that a modern £500 driver will pay for itself!Went to the range on Monday and it went surprisingly well.

The fusion was designed for maximum forgiveness, so it’s probably a good place to start. Came with a shorter shaft than other modern drivers as standard, and the triangular shape gets the weight as far back in the head as possible. Went to the range on Monday and it went surprisingly well.

If it’s going 220 you’re probably a few yards longer than the average golfer so as long as it stays in play you’re winning!

It really is a stupid amount, especially when it is likely to be under 300 when the new colours come out at the end of the year.Hoping the weather stays good for Saturday morning, when I should be able to do a full 18 rather than the bits of the course that have been open this week
I need to start getting a few cards in to try and get a handicap, whatever it is going to be..
Got myself some golf shoes today , after it was pointed out to me that the cricket shoes I have been playing in are not allowed within the club rules, despite having a less aggressive footprint with similar plastic discs! ( no metal spikes)

There are a lot of bargains to be had out there if you don't buy new - seeing as Driver distance has been pretty much maxed out since they limited COR on the face a 6 year old Driver will be up there with a modern one - for about a fifth of the price. Went to the range on Monday and it went surprisingly well.

I had a try of a Titleist TS3 over Xmas - it was a lovely driver, but didn't go any further than my Nike Vapor Fly from 2016. The Titleist is £399, my Nike was £99 (plus £80 for an upgraded shaft).

Has anybody ever heard of anyone being pulled up and/or DQ'ed for using a banned club?
On another matter, a foot of white stuff in my garden suggests tomorrow's medal might be off.
No. Informally I get a bit of gentle stick for sometimes using an old Callaway ERC Fusion+ driver that was ruled illegal as the face was too 'hot'. The lads who're giving me this gentle stick are only able to do so as I volunteered the information that the club was illegal. They wouldn't have known otherwise. On another matter, a foot of white stuff in my garden suggests tomorrow's medal might be off.
I wouldn't use that club in an organised competition. Not because I honestly think it conveys me any real advantage, but because being pulled-up on it would be embarrassing. Especially if I'd won or done well.

I had a Cobra 460 driver like that and exactly the same thing happened. I opened my big trap about it, somebody commented, and I never felt able to take it out again. Had no trouble unloading it mind, so I guess the secret is to keep schtum. Sometimes I wish I still had it. It went miles.I wouldn't use that club in an organised competition. Cobra One Length update.
Along with many range sessions and 9 hole practice rounds i've played 4 full rounds since taking delivery of the 7 iron length wonders. My scores were as follows...
82
84
79 (My first ever sub 80 round)
85
Absolutely love these clubs. I've found that if i address the ball at more of an impact position rather than a normal address position it drastically improves my ball striking. I'm getting that solid compressed ball feeling with some lovely divots to match. I think it may have been Shawn Clement, the youtube fella, who i heard that tip from. What felt like a massive forward shaft lean in reality looked like a normal set up when i filmed it on one hole. It was a prime example of that age old story of feel and real being different to what you think.
I've also gone all Bryson Dechambeau on my driver. I fitted a jumbo WINN Excel grip on it and what a difference that has made. It is surprisingly lighter than the standard grip i had on the driver and can definitely feel a the club head more. It's also quite squishy which at first felt very strange on a driver but after a few swings i found i could really go for it with the driver and had much more awareness of where the club face was. After a few lessons last year my right side miss had turned into a left and right miss with the driver but with this grip it has quietened down my wrists quite a bit and i'm yet to hit a miss left.
Took delivery of a Cobra One Length Versatile 56 deg wedge this morning to that will be having its first outing tomorrow.
All in all one happy golfer!

What putters are you guys using ?
With a cheap Wilson putter that came with the old set I have, it almost feels like I am swinging a brick on a piece of string, just no feel between hand and end of putter.
Had some nice long putts, but more luck I am sure.
I tend to overhit due to having no feel.
I don’t mind spending if need be ( wife won’t know) but it seems there are so many out there and 150 is middle of the range!
