It would appear that despite all the wind and rain outside hell has frozen over. After some failed experiments with a TaylorMade Rescue and a Nike CPR back in the day, I swore myself off hybrids for life, as even with my power fade at the time they just wanted to go left. But played with a rental set over Christmas that had a titleist 818 H2 in it (the more iron biased one) and it was superb - easy to launch straight with a low piercing trajectory.

Came back home and got fitted for one when I was getting my lofts and lies checked, and I've gone in today and ordered a Titleist 818 H2 19 degree with Aldila Rogue Max 84 X Flex shaft. Should be here next week, can't wait smile

The wife also owes me a belated Xmas present, and moving to a push cart is proving problematic with my carry bag, so was thinking about a proper cart bag. Was thinking Sun Mountain C130?

Anyone else got any early season purchases lined up?

Just starting to get into golfing. Bought a set of titelist clubs from Ebay and taking beginner lessons. It is quite fun at the range, heading to a Texas scramble game for beginner next weekend, really looking forward to it.

Can't use the driver for toffee though frown
Leave at home, take a 3 wood.
On a good day, I can hit a 3 wood as far as a driver on a bad day🤪
Makes sense to me anyway..!!!
Be consistent😂

Joined a club for the first time ever last week and played my first comp on Sunday. Opened par, birdie, then 15 holes worth of bogeys, doubles and a couple of triples, followed by another birdie on the 18th after a sweet 190y uphill approach to 6'. Funny old game, thankfully the doubles and triples will ensure my handicap isn't too low when I eventually get one!

Ordered a new Garmin. Have been getting increasingly fed up with my Apple Watch using the Golf Shot app. It’s been great previously but it just seems to get more inaccurate.

I’ve just gone for the basic X10 in black. Just over £100.

Other than that...... I’ve been looking at maybe getting a new 5 wood but haven’t made any decisions yet!

Very nice, I usually use a Rangefinder but am finding it challenging to get a lock on from over 180 yards, so was thinking about a watch at some stage. You'll have to let us know how it goes.

The cart bag probably isn't happening, as I got impatient waiting for my hybrid, and bought a new putter as well smile I am now the proud owner of my first "Tour Issue" club - got a Nike Method from The Oven, which was their workshop they made all the kit for the pros in. The same guys have set up Artisan Golf (and still make all of Tiger's clubs) who's putters start at $700, so £140 for a putter from the same shop seemed a bargain to me.

It's a Method 003, so the Del Mar / Oddysey #9 style one. Took it out for 9 yesterday and was suitably impressed, just need to hide it from the wife now smile

Made the most of the nice weather and played in our midweek medal today

9 points after 8 holes. Pathetic
Played the remaining 10 holes level par to finish with 36 points

If I could swing a golf club normally at the start of a round I'd be dangerous. Takes me too long to settle down and loosen up

My lads and I went out for a quick round on Tuesday at my local pitch and putt, Victoria Park in Bath, the 18-hole one if you know it.

In average nick considering all the rain we had... the younger one teed off on the 9th hole (85 yards) and hit it pretty straight but maybe a little short, we thought. Got to the green and the ball's lying no more than two inches from the hole. Agonisingly close to aceing it. Would have been nice to seen whether it hit the flag but the course layout means you can't see the bottom of the flag from the tee.

We're all still buzzing from his near miss when I teed off on the 11th, a nasty little hole that has cost me several fives over the years. Greens on a slope right to left and flag at front left of green and I've caught it perfectly... it's drawn from right to left and not one of us dared to breathe as it rolled up to the hole and....

... went six feet past. Must have been inches from the hole when it rolled by but such was my disappointment that I ended up missing the putt back.

Bloody golf. That said, got a hole-in-one on the 17th there a few years back and retired the ball straight afterwards! It was a 65-yard hole and the ball went in on the full, taking the side of the hole out as it dropped in.

Going out for the fourth round of the week this afternoon. Hopefully the weather should hold up, although whether my old legs will do is another matter! laugh

First decent bit of weather this year yesterday for our Thurs aft group and the scores reflected that. No wind or rain or sun in your face. Felt good. Bring it on for 2019!

I’ve only managed 2 full rounds since the start of October due to working away for 2 months, winter, moving house, changing jobs. Lots going on.

First round at my old club that I’ve now cancelled my membership at due to all the above...35 points with one blobbed disaster hole.

Got out again on Wednesday This week. Played solid stuff. One double bogey in a +10 round gross (+1 nett) with 6 (six!!!!!) big lip outs literally nothing would drop.

Still, it’s promising for the summer if I can put together decent rounds now with so little play.

My golf has started going awfully, in line with my last post I’m either not aligning properly or have started reverse pivoting...neither ideal but one a lot easier to fix!

I have however found a new go-to shot when trying to approach a par 5 from 250+ yards....or less of into puff...driver of the deck! Strangely far easier to hit than my 3-wood which I hate and have never been able to hit properly.

45 points in our March medal today with a blob on the 2nd after my ball disappeared. 26 points coming back, 1under gross. Easily the best I've played since getting back into it last year

Went out today to play in the long overdue 2018 doubles final. My partner couldn't play (after months of one of them not being able to play) so it was me against two and we agreed it would be me against either one on alternate holes.

The short of it is I won 2&1 but it feels a little hollow as I only scored 25 on stableford and one of the others scored 37, his partner had a shocker though and near enough gave up after 9 holes. Had it been a singles match I'd have lost 7&6 but such is life, a win is a win.

Just a little tip if you are in the north of France. At Sablé Solemnes is a fantastic golf course which was built 25 years ago by a multi-millionaire. He had gone broke in France, went to Africa and came back hyper-rich and because none of his old friends had helped him in the day he built this course jus to piss them off. It has 27 holes plus a par 3 course you might want to avoid. It is tougher than any I have ever seen. It has, since the owner's death, passed to his son who now maintains it, and it has but 80 members. Yes - 80! So it is easy to get on and always in tip top condition in summer. I hear they have reduced the number of greens staff to 16 from 23, but don't let that worry you. Nor the owner - he still loses £30,000 per month I hear. I've played it many times, and would recommend it to you all. Have a look here if you are interested.

Has anyone got Ping I210 irons in their bag?

Currently looking for a new set of irons to replace my TM RSI 2 irons. As good as they have been, the distance dispersion on them makes things more difficult than it should be.

I tried a i210 and AP2 7 iron on the range this morning and both felt great. My best shots were probably with the AP2 but more consistent with the i210 so it must be a bit more forgiving on off centre hits.

Got a proper fitting on Wednesday where I'll be trying those two in a variety of shafts along with the P760s and maybe another depending on what they have/suggest. The numbers will be interesting but the looks and feel of the i210 already has me leaning towards them

Continuing with my ball experiment (ooh err)

Today's offering was the Topflite D2 feel soft .

Wow, what a ball! Bought 40 pearl grade for £14. They looked brand new.

Nothing like the Topflites of yesteryear. In terms of softness I'd put them between the Srixon AD333 and Wilson DX2. Nice feel off the putter, just as good off the irons as any other ball and no problem with the driver. Got 4 foot of backspin on one hole with the gap wedge (unintentionally!).

And......they've got dimples inside the dimples!

Very impressed with these balls from a performance and price point. Ended up shooting 8 over which is pretty much bang on my handicap.

You can get 15 chromesofts off amazon for 19.99 which i think is pretty good value for a premium ball.... I like to gift lucky finders of my lost balls to decent ones :-)
