I agree, but humbly suggest that if you’re off 28 then the key to dropping shots is hitting greens in regulation +1.

If they played every par 4 like it was a par 5, most could play off 18.
This is exactly the point my game has reached. It feels like a decent base to build on. Plan now is to chip away at the odd easier hole to build up more confidence - which seems to be the key.
Stay out of trouble. Deep rough and lost balls are scorecard kryptonite. If three 7 irons get you to the green in a low-risk three, then that’s good golf. Bogey is never a bad score.

28 putts today, 3 rounds into a new putter and it’s already feeling as good as anything I’ve ever used.
Lead to a 42pts 4bbb result. Enough for the win with today’s winds.
Just need to putt this well on my own card. Already received 0.5 back this season. (Work has been getting in the way of practice so consistency has buggered off)

Finally a buffer. Had to birdie the last just to not get another 0.1. Game feels really close to being good again.

Lots of golf planned this weekend with the upcoming weather?

My putting has gone to pieces, I had 40 putts today. Four 3 putts and a 4 putt were particular low lights

It's become a mental thing now. I can't seem to aim at the hole on simple 3 footers, completely missing the cup

Try using the other side of the club.

Have had to buy a new (secondhand) Ping driver to replace my Cleveland which got snapped the other day when the bag blew over. Greens at our place have just had 30 tons of sand put on them after tining, some crazy bobbles and direction changes happening at the moment but they're saying it's going to be worth the pain. Lovely relaxed medal round yesterday (Sat aft) with a couple of mates, we were literally the only people on the course at one point even though the conditions were perfect.

At the risk of sounding an arse, please either do lots of practise in the next two weeks, and/or make sure you’ve got one of the last tee times of the day.

10:30 tee off I'm afraid.

I can see where I'm going wrong, (I'm rotating the club clockwise on my downswing). I just can't suss out, (in practice); how to fix it.

I'll book in a 30 minute session with a local coach to see if that can fix it.

I've got one he'll of a blister on my left finger as well, (the one next to my little finger), so maybe I'm not holding the grip right enough?
Could be anything or everything. Don’t be shy to pick up and move on once a hole is past redemption. Carrying blithely on ‘for the sake of the card’ is a blight on our fair game.

Reading a putt from four angles for a 10 should be an actual crime with an actual custodial sentence. I bet the Swiss would be on top of real issues like this. If they had anywhere flat enough to play golf.

I’m not accusing you of any of this heinous behaviour, I’m just ranting. smile

I'm not so much concerned with embarrassing myself with my poor game in front of my mate, more pissing off the players stood waiting behind me.
Then I think your attitude is golden. Nobody gives the first fig how bad you are, as long as you aren’t slow.

Indeed, nobody’s impressed If you’re off +7 and on track for a Kim Jong Il 34 gross if you’re the kind of cosmic megatt who leaves his bag on the wrong side of the green and fails to fk promptly off to the next tee before marking their card.

I would napalm these people, and if that perturbs the green-staff, so be it.

I went up to the driving range for a little practice the other day. This was the first time I'd hit a ball in 26-27 years.

As I used to be 'ok', when i played in my youth and I'm a dab hand on Tiger Woods, I just assumed that I'd still be alright now, right?

Wrong.

Out of 70 balls I did one good, straight shot. All of the rest were sliced 45 degrees or more off to the right with lots and lots of loft. Even when I purposely aimed far to the left to try and compensate my balls where still landing in the same area, far off to the right.

My final ball, hit with a 9 iron went literally straight up, hit the canopy above my head and landed a couple of inches further back from where I had tee'd off yikes I'm calling that one a trick shot hehe

When I play this round with my mate on the 25th, if I can come in less than 100 over par, then I'll be quite satisfied.

This simple video could help no end. Straight to the point and one of the best ways to get your swing off to a good start.

Along with this, try to keep your wrists out of the swing until you've atleast taken the hands past your right leg on the takeaway. Flicking the wrists and getting disconnected from the start is a sure fire way to cock up any swing

40 points today with 3 blobs. Assuming I would have 2 putted on those 3 holes then I had 37 putts. Not as bad as Saturday but still nowhere near good enough

Another infuriating round again today! rolleyes

My kids treated me to a round of golf at a local 9 hole course in Bath. It's a bit tight but if you have a reasonable short game, it's all par 3's and 4's so you can go around in a decent figure even if you're not great.

So I take a seven on the first after actually hitting the ball so badly, it hopped up and sat down where I'd hit it. Managed to recover my card with a few fours then came to the eighth, par 4 all uphill. By now, I was actually physically exhausted and ended up hitting two balls OOB. Five off the tee, then scuffed three more shots and was lucky to rescue an eleven on the hole.

Walked to the ninth tee, a short par 3, berating myself for being such a tt and vowing never to play the damn game again. Hit an 8 iron to ten feet and rattled the putt in like a pro would for a 2. Can't ever remember getting an 11 followed by a 2; sums my game up in one sentence, that does.

Stupid game.

I think I’m all played out for a few days...it’s been a busy week with a lot of miles covered and a lot of balls hit.

36 holes at Coxmoor for our regional championships Thursday after practice range sessions Mon/Tues. 27 points in the morning feeling slightly the worse for wear after staying out in Notts a bit later than intended the night before. Much better in the afternoon with 32 points which should really have been 34-36 but for poor putting. In truth I was just trying to enjoy the afternoon round as the morning put me out of contention. Got 0.1 back for both rounds so back up to 9.

18 at Costessey Park in Norwich on Friday...gross 76 with a level par back 9.

Range session Saturday...seemed a shame to not be outside, but the legs were suffering a bit after three rounds in 2 days.

Then 18 holes today on my home club, Barnham Broom in Norwich. 35 points, gross 82. Not bad. Missed a couple of short putts.

Came within inches of my first ace twice this week too. First on the 7th at Coxmoor where I missed a slam dunk by 8 inches in the afternoon round, then this afternoon I flew a 9i just past the 15th pin, it spun back 2ft and stopped 2 inches from the hole. mad

Crumbs, my legs are hanging off after nine holes yesterday morning!! I am a fat bd though and it was hot...

Had an ace a few years ago but only on a small pitch and putt course in Victoria Park, Bath. Hole was about 87 yards, and the tee shot went straight in on the full, taking a bit of the side of the hole out. Immediately retired the ball, and it is now residing proudly in my trophy cabinet at home....bowtie

Worsley Park this coming weekend near Manchester.

Local club yesterday morning in glorious conditions. It's a lovely little club - only 11 holes - you then play 7 from a different approach.

Nightmare when it's busy but it was dead quiet for some reason yesterday morning.

Came back in with 31 points so not stunning but very enjoyable morning.

Shame the weather for the weekend is forecast to be dire.

Went out yesterday on my own and came in after nine holes as it was just too hot to concentrate. Also because I was running out of balls thanks to some massive bounces off the newly dried-up fairway.

Sounds very reminiscent of my only Ace. Almost down to the yardage of the hole! Albeit mine was scuffed and if it wasn’t for the flagstaff i’d Probably have lost the ball a hundred yards past the green...

Played my first game last weekend after 3 weeks off due to work. Miserable is the only word for it. Fairway to green was pretty good, the trouble is I was often playing my third/fourth after hitting my tee shots in to the bush/OB.

I am usually very consistent off the tee with my 3 wood, but not this particular day. Even my caddie had his head in his hands wondering what the fook I was doing!

As usual though, it was very hot and muggy and even teeing off at 06:15, by the third hole, I am a walking wet rag (I should be used to it b now).

Off back to South Africa on Thursday evening, so will be playing lots of golf when I am there.

Haven't had a chance to play as much as I would have liked so far this season as have been organising a wedding, but now that's over (and the bride promised not to get too annoyed when I play too much golf), I've booked a game tomorrow night after work, am playing in a team match on Saturday and may play the medal Sunday morning.

Did manage to get 9 holes in with me mate on Sunday evening - he plays off 5 and I'm off 8, so we had a quick match with no shots - beat him 3 and 2 over 9 holes, then chipped in on the last to win double or quits. As I'd put my first drive out of bounds he was a little bit annoyed - but the beer did taste good.

Currently toying with a raid on the Saturday for the Open at Carnoustie.

It'll involve spending as much time driving as doing anything else, but I think I'm still game. I surely won't be going to Ireland next year for it, and last year was such a great day out.

If I hadn't organised a 3 day golfing trip for the same week (idiot) I'd have been Marshalling all weekend. It's worth it for the swag alone!
