IMO, only Cook and Buttler have given their wickets away. Jennings didn't pick it and the others were out to good balls.
Saying they gave their wickets away is harsh IMO, at some point you have to score some runs.

You can't simply look to survive against this sort of bowling, sooner or later, probably sooner, you will get something unplayable.

They both fell to decent catches, another area where India have excelled.

Test cricket of the highest class. Fantastic to watch.

I get that batting at test level against a late swinging ball is not easy. Granted. No doubt later in the match Jimmy A and Broad will work over a few India bats too.

However - the benefits of just staying in for 10 overs and protecting the lower order are massive. On current performance Root urgently needs to drop to four and we need three who is just hard to get out.

Agree that the ones tried so far have not been good enough, time to move on. Pope is next cab on the rank.

Yes, the openers and no 3 at least need to be able to stop around long enough to really take the edge off the new ball. Moeen and Curran are currently surviving a mid life ball from 34 overs, now 51 overs, hopefully that doesn't jinx it after tea. But first 4 wickets went in 17 overs, which in first class cricket is nothing.

Mo gone, can we see an England total in excess of 200?

Geoff Boycott on TMS: The best players are at the end of the innings for England, better than the top! If we could just find five decent top order batsmen it might be the best team in the world because the middle order is fantastic.

Rashid would have been not-out if England had any reviews left...

Stokes is a serial offender here. Always reviews, I think he sees himself as the last hope and so might as well use it.

Pope isn't a #3 (or 4) would be unfair on him IMO. He bats for his county at 6, so has no experience of facing a new'ish ball. We'd be better off picking a regular opener or #3

He'll probly get dropped again for the next game for some other Northerner to get a Test cap.

Broad scored as many as Cook, and more than any of the rest of the top order, for the second consecutive innings. Third highest England scorer was E.X.Tras.

Pathetic isn’t it? Unless India fall for 96 and we all appreciate it’s a bowlers wicket!

Not like Anderson and Broad bowled it won't be a bowler's wicket.

Will be interesting to see if Anderson and co can get the ball swinging 40+ overs later tomorrow.

There was something in it for the bowlers pretty much all day today. If it remains that way tomorrow, 10+ wickets could fall and England could be right back in the game.

I wasn't touting Pope as a 3. We need an opener and a three. Pope is a five. Bairstow a six. Ali or Rashid would be out of my team.

Anyway. Curran got us out of jail today. Good lad.

Anderson and Broad need to bowl like they've never bowled before and the fielders need to catch everything that comes their way. That means you Mr Jennings at third slip.

Curran has scored more runs (in two tests and one innings) than Jennings and Cook combined in all the matches.
