England V India cricket

IMO, only Cook and Buttler have given their wickets away. Jennings didn't pick it and the others were out to good balls.
Saying they gave their wickets away is harsh IMO, at some point you have to score some runs. You can't simply look to survive against this sort of bowling, sooner or later, probably sooner, you will get something unplayable.
They both fell to decent catches, another area where India have excelled.
Test cricket of the highest class. Fantastic to watch.
I get that batting at test level against a late swinging ball is not easy. Granted. No doubt later in the match Jimmy A and Broad will work over a few India bats too.
However - the benefits of just staying in for 10 overs and protecting the lower order are massive. On current performance Root urgently needs to drop to four and we need three who is just hard to get out.
Agree that the ones tried so far have not been good enough, time to move on. Pope is next cab on the rank.

Yes, the openers and no 3 at least need to be able to stop around long enough to really take the edge off the new ball. Moeen and Curran are currently surviving a mid life ball from 34 overs, now 51 overs, hopefully that doesn't jinx it after tea. But first 4 wickets went in 17 overs, which in first class cricket is nothing. However - the benefits of just staying in for 10 overs and protecting the lower order are massive. Pope isn't a #3 (or 4) would be unfair on him IMO. He bats for his county at 6, so has no experience of facing a new'ish ball. We'd be better off picking a regular opener or #3However - the benefits of just staying in for 10 overs and protecting the lower order are massive. I wasn't touting Pope as a 3. We need an opener and a three. Pope is a five. Bairstow a six. Ali or Rashid would be out of my team. Anyway. Curran got us out of jail today. Good lad.

Broad scored as many as Cook, and more than any of the rest of the top order, for the second consecutive innings. Third highest England scorer was E.X.Tras.
Curran has scored more runs (in two tests and one innings) than Jennings and Cook combined in all the matches. Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
