England V India cricket
Discussion
Jennings must be bricking it, last chance saloon surely. If he fails and yet let's say, for sake of argument, England manage to secure the series he's still out on his arse as he will surely be if England lose. Regardless of Cookie's form based on record and lack of alternatives are they going to sack off both openers? Or are they going to continue with triumph of hope over experience?

I think he will be in the next test regardless. Anyway, I hope he plays sensibly and makes a solid looking 50. That’s all we need. It’s tough conditions to open in, look at the wickets falling with the new ball. There really aren’t many batsman who play fast late swing well. Even Kohli has struggled.
If any proof that Curran should not have been dropped for the last match then this is it.
What has Rashid actually done in this series? I've said it before, but he is only playing to justify Ed Smith's selecting of him. Curran is our second highest batsman, yet bats down the order. He has a massive future in test cricket, and if he can find a little extra pace he could be one of the great all rounders imo.
At least the openers have survived the first 10 overs. Now to build slowly and for both Cook and Jennings to get 50's. I really hope that they can both play themselves into some form and then Root do the same. A very finely poised match, but I can see an India victory, going to the Oval all square and us winning there by luck.
ETA: Christ, as I clicked submit Cook goes and gets out. FFS!

Ali in at 3? Haven't they tried something like this before and it didn't work? I hope it does as I really like Ali, on his day he is a fantastic batsman.
It’s not the worst idea, and at least protects Root for a bit. I have previously advocated Root at three, but it’s very clear he doesn’t want to bat there. Plus without the top two regularly making a fifty partnership he is too exposed. Anyway, Ali has the talent, but he needs to acquire the mindset.
Good to see Jennings fighting hard today

From now on, nobody is to say anything positive about one of our batsmen while they're still at the crease.Ball is not moving much. Going to be hard work for the Indian quicks this afternoon. Ashwin is not looking his best firing it in this morning but he will be key this afternoon.
