That's good to hear. Stick with it if you can old man ( wink ), it gets better and better.

Today's Top Tip from this morning's session is to avoid training with women. Men are respectful and moderate their techniques and power. Women don't; they're either in guard or flying at you, teeth bared, trying to rip your head off. Apparently 'inside leg kick' means kick me in the nuts. Three times.

I think I'm going to take up baking cakes instead.

Looking at Gi's.

So far it's Mizuno and I'd prefer blue so it doesn't yellow etc.

Any other brands?

I'd be tempted to push the boat out abit and spend £150 for longevity and look at it lasting 10yrs.

My 8yo daughter is really enjoying her introductory course of Judo. She is noticeably more enthused about it than most of the other activities she does and has tried.

I'm still itching to have another go at grappling...

I'm wondering whether I should encourage her down the Judo or BJJ route (BJJ possibly better for my needs as a slightly battered 41 year old wink )

Hyperfly do a really nice Judo gi, not sure if Tatami do one also. To be honest they are all much a muchness, anything over 450 weave is going to last a long time.

I learn how to fall.

How to grab someone, sweep leg forward and drop them then put them into a hold on the floor before moving into kneeling with hands clapsed then back again. It felt natural.
How is the Judo "journey" going?

I am considering what I can do to get some regular contact/grappling without irritating my elbow (broken/chipped radial head-humerus junction when I was a teenager) that doesn't like being straightened too far. Hmmmm

All good. The trainer is good. I'm also going to start BJJ or another Judo class as doing shifts I miss every other week with Mondays

It would be interesting to try both. I vaguely recall that you may be Manchester based. There are a few clubs (and wrestling) about.

Stealth BJJ in Manchester, the head instructor is one of the UK's earliest BJJ practitioners - I was at a seminar a couple of months back with him - super knowledgeable and a good teaching style

Thanks. Unfortunately Chadderton is not somewhere that is easy to get to for me.

It's looking like the most convenient days and times for my daughter are at the Judo club (other places seem to be too early). I'll probably give it a whirl too.

Shame there is no general MA thread.

Cool kids may hang out on the BJJ one, but all they talk about is BJJ.

Start one, theres a few MMA lads on the BJJ thread. I've done a couple of low level classes lately, Last nights was an introduction into clinching and how hand fighting leads to a neck/collar tie and what happens if you get to either a Thai clinch or double unders etc.

Really interesting and makes you think.

Mine last night was getting thrown about by an enthusiastic white belt testing for his yellow, then conditioning, then kicking. Receiving a kick (albeit padded) is good conditioning too, if a bit bruising.

Here's one to try: the outstretched press-up. Known as the 'Jack Lelanne'. Known by me as 'how the fk do you do that?' I can do 100 normal press-ups no problem, but that one is just a big nope.

The issue with MMA for me it's a recipe to get me in trouble. I'd happily jump into a dedicated MMA thread though and be proven wrong

Simple, really.

Basically each player rolls, he or she with the highest number goes first. Each player must then roll a 6 to begin the game, then races around the board using the numbers on the die as a guide, until all of his or her pieces are towering up to the centre.

Luck, basically. Colourful luck.

when I last sparred with a lady, she kept saying, 'that's too hard, that's too much, that's too tough for me' etc, so I kept dialling it down till eventually I was basically just straightening my arms, I'm sure she was zinging me with her full force too. . biggrin
