321-8, I'll take that any day of the week for a first day score on a tricky tour. A little like golf though. Sometimes the score doesn't tell the full story.

Targets for tomorrow:

350 runs
Foakes ton (incidental , but I'd be pleased for the lad)
3 SL wickets in their first 20 overs
Rashid to be allowed a bowl...

Targets pretty much achieved. Well, apart from poor Rashid.

Yep. Great start.

Disappointing to see Jimmy left high and dry again whilst eyeing another big knock. Perhaps he can have a go at 3 - everyone else has ;>

Sickening isn't such a waste of talent, not out a staggering 82 times in his career- denied probably 10 - 15 centuries by now. Now I understand more fully why he just looks so angry all the time

In other news, this test is all over. England can recover from 103/5 to post a score. There really aren't any other sides that can do this routinely, and SL aren't one of them.

(Cue Matthews double ton smile )

Talk Sport 2
So DAB or online only.

It's ok and there's no adverts.

BBC 5 Live (ha!) is presently doing a ridiculous thing called The Cricket Social which appears to be some people chatting in a London studio while watching the cricket on a TV set in the corner. Every now and then one of them deigns to tell you the score but there is no commentary.
When the BBC can't even secure radio rights for Test cricket something is very wrong.
ETA: when you go to TalkSport site and click on the icon for 'International Cricket - LIVE' it takes you to a choice of three programmes, none of which is the cricket. Unless that beery git Alan Brazil is doing it, which I doubt.
ETA again: if you click on the Beery Git's icon it switches to International Cricket! I can't tell if it's on yet though as it's all ads. What a shambles.
ETA again: no it isn't - unless you click on the International Cricket icon again, at which point the Alan Brazil icon comes back on – and the cricket commentary starts. Jesus.

Its a procession from here - SL all out 203. Lead is 139.

Hopefully the top order, under absolutely no pressure whatsoever can manage more than an average of 20 each.

Targets for tomorrow (following my obv favourable impact with these yesterday...).

Our top 6 to put this one out of sight
One of the top 6 to get a ton
SL to be treated to a grinding endurance lesson in the field

The BBC 5Live Extra guys have spared no expense to bring you a live feed from ABC[Australia] of the second Aus v SA ODI on Friday 9th at 0305. Who won't be staying up for that?

Mine would be:

Get to a score of around 260 & declare
Put SL in before close

No way SL will chase 400 down.

Well we are well on track, so late order hustle and we will be well over 400.

Sri Lanka can bat though, not sure they have the discipline for a long chase, but Matthews is quite capable of a big ton. But 4th innings and a grinding score, we should be comfortably home and hosed here.

Good knock from Jennings.

Next test starts on the 14th. We should be thinking about how we win the series, not just this one. A full day at least in the field for SL chasing a lost cause, together with runs for our batsmen will be helpful in the long run.

We could win by declaring now, but I wouldn’t. Time to grind...

Jennings rookie error not closing out the ton before tea. All the pressure over his tea & Jammie Dodgers could have been avoided with one decent swipe.

Now he has to restart, I really hope he doesn't regret that, especially as he is on a double nelson for balls faced.

To be fair G, if he’d had a swipe and it had gone horribly wrong you’d be calling him out for a different rookie error... I think he’ll be fine.

He is fine! smile

A well deserved 100. Glad the selectors stuck with him. Plays spin very well. I like him a lot - probably not the most stylish or exciting cricketer to watch but like Chef, takes his time and we need someome who can build an innings.

Curran might offer a little entertainment here..!

I have to say I’d make them come out and field again for 10 minutes tomorrow morning. The match is gone. What will they want least of all..?

ETA: Root is too soft..!

Seriously, what the hell?

Why not just declare when Foakes was out?! Or let Jennings get a well desrved 150.

In any case, a great day for England.
