Oh fk off. If Fury and Wilder pull something similar I'm gonna be fking livid
It's very strange. The Joshua strategy was all about making him a star in America, so why not have the rematch there? Hold it in Vegas and lots of English support will be there for AJ to not feel Ruiz has an advantage.
Also AJ gave interviews this week saying he is trying to get his passion back for boxing, which is a bit odd to say the least.

I find it all rather strange too.
AJ said he wants it in Cardiff. Hearn said it isn't up to Ruiz. They choose Saudi Arabia for some daft reason.
$40m million reasons - that being the reported site fee. Ruiz is on a fixed retainer for the rematch, so the extra money will go to Joshua. AJ said he wants it in Cardiff. Hearn said it isn't up to Ruiz. They choose Saudi Arabia for some daft reason.
I understand his reasoning - I would have done the same, but it creates some embarrassing contradictions in his previous statements.

In wonder if there will be more support for AJ in Saudi than Ruiz?
There is quite a big Brit community over there and I would imagine that Brits are more likely to travel there than Mexicans?
Personally I think it is wrong, Ruiz is the champion he should be allowed to have the first defence of the title in his own backyard.
Going to be interesting.

Latest news is : Ruiz has said he want's a lot more than the agreed rematch fee of $9m to fight in Saudi ?
First it was testing, then not fighting in AJ's back yard, now this.
Where has the humble and friendly Ruiz gone to , turned into a proper diva now.
If there is a written contract stating the rematch clauses, then I hope Ruiz gets sued, you can't agree to fight and sign the contracts then say you're not going to fulfill them.
Let him go back to fighting for $100,000 like he was before AJ gave him the chance.

Have you read the contract? If not you're just speculating. If I were Ruiz I'd definitely be pushing to get as much as possible to fight in Saudi fking Arabia - especially as the only reason it's there is because they'll pay a st load more than anyone else.First it was testing, then not fighting in AJ's back yard, now this.

He doesn't have to honour the contract - there may be legal ramifications for him if he doesn't, but it would mean the fight being called off and leave AJ fked. He's got a lot of cards to play here and who can blame him for using them to get a share of that $40m?

Rematch clauses are the backbone of boxing. Are there any precedents? It is in not in any promoters interest for Ruiz to wriggle out, matchroom would have no choice but to give legal a blank cheque.
Also AJ is not tied to Dazn, so contract is likely with Matchroom UK and so under English law.
Ruiz's side are most likely seeing how far they can push. Ruiz knows backing out of a rematch clause would have major implications for him too.
You say AJ would be fked, more like a get out of jail free card as he can avoid Ruiz a little while.

Nobody of interest is going to fight him until he beats Ruiz. He needs this fight to happen. You're right it's not in anyone's interest to break the contract and I don't think there's any chance of it happening but Ruiz can threaten to with some leverage. Edited by hyphen on Sunday 11th August 23:33
Edit: I think this is happening because AJ, Hearn or both know that there's a good chance this is AJ's last big-money fight (maybe even his last ever fight) so they might as well milk every penny they can out of it. Given that, Ruiz can certainly push back for more cash.

Yep. There is more space for Ruiz to squeeze. He could quote "security risks" in Saudi; he could feign an injury. Or Haymon might decide that it is worth paying Ruiz's purse and tying up Joshua for the next 18 months in legal chicanery and ensuring Joshua gets stripped. He doesn't have to honour the contract - there may be legal ramifications for him if he doesn't, but it would mean the fight being called off and leave AJ fked. Whichever way, it is worth paying Ruiz a bit more to make the problem go away.

Fury confirmed whilst on an ESPN TV show that the Wilder rematch was done and signed.
Feb 22nd Las Vegas.
As long as they both win their next fights though, easy one for Fury, Ortiz for Wilder has more risk.
Was about to post the same thing. Here’s hoping...I’ve heard so many times now and dates of the rematch that I’ve lost hope. Feb 22nd Las Vegas.
