Dubois is making easy money, it can all go downhill after one or two losses very easily, so he is getting 'food on the table for his family' whilst the public is paying up still.
Once sales slow/tv audience figures drop and he can't headline, then higher quality opponents will be found.

I'm not saying he should be in against the same calibre of fighter as Joshua was at the same stage (my first sentence says he shouldn't be in with Chisora and Parker and that's the level Joshua was fighting against at the same stage) but I don't agree he should still be fighting total cans like this. What did he learn yesterday, other than he can nearly kill a man with no effort who should never have been in the ring with him in the first place? Fighting Gorman was a good call, he should be at least staying at that kind of level at the moment, he needs fighters who are going to give him rounds and test him a bit defensively. If he keeps fighting guys at this level he won't develop as a fighter at all. He may not be ready for the same fights as AJ after 15 but he's certainly ready for better than he's being put up against. Time to sack off Warren and sign for Matchroom if he can.
From a technical fighting perspective, he learnt next to nothing. His opponent was trash.
But he learnt how to headline a BT Sport show. And he built upon his existing confidence. And he got to practise some of what he has been working on in the gym.
Plus he doesn't need Matchroom (who don't give two sts about their fighters).
Warren is building him very well - in fact, I would say, we will look back and see this as the model for how to build a professional heavyweight.
Let's see when he is 24 years old....

Why are you blaming Warren? Fighters hide behind their promoters, they often are fully signed up to the roadmap.

Frank Warren puts on absolutely laughable mismatches more than other promotors imo. Maybe he just doesn't have the connections so has to find random Euro and Asian fighters.Dubois is making easy money, it can all go downhill after one or two losses very easily, so he is getting 'food on the table for his family' whilst the public is paying up still.

They *all* do that sometimes. Just look at the next Hearn show....But you can't fairly claim that when Warren has put on Warrington/Frampton, Yarde/Kovalev etc etc just this year.

I'm sure I'd read that Price was lined up for the Dubois fight, but there were contractual issues that meant it didn't happen, so the tomato can he was fed was Plan B.
Price might have been offered the fight, but it was certainly offered to Dave Allen who rejected it (despite it being a record high purse for him). The slight difficulty Dubois will soon face, if you are someone like Chisora or a similar level heavyweight, and you lose to a 22 year old novice like Dubois, it might prove to be a career-limiting loss.
So Warren is investing in Dubois by paying the governing bodies their sanctioning fees for their minor belts in order to build his ranking. And by taking this route, he is already ranked No 5 in the world by the WBO and No 12 by the IBF.
From there he will soon get to the mandatory position, without necessarily having faced any top-class opposition. However, being mandatory means he doesn't have to accept a rematch clause and the commercial terms can be set by purse-bids rather than being set by the existing champion's promoter.
He may not have fast hands but I am hugely impressed with his footwork, and he does not throw wasted punches. He is accurate and hurtful. He is always in range where his opponent feels pressure. He has had a decent chin check against lartey (where he engaged in a pointless firefight but came out the other side), and Gorman, who hit him flush. The kid is far from the finished article but I'm liking what I'm seeing thus far.
Bruno/aj comparisons are probably fair enough. Everybody can't be a mobile switch hitter. Kid is making the most if his physical attributes and if he can work on his defence and yes, head movement, show some feints and a bit more guile, he will be hard to beat.

Frank Warren himself stated it was the same money Allen got to fight Price (and that was the improved offer). Can't say I blame Allen for not taking that.Davos123 said:

He did say that. But then, according to Allen, he made one final attempt where he increased it to more than he received for fighting Price.
Ah fair enough. Still, glad that didn't get made. After the beating Allen took from Price getting in the ring with someone like Dubois feels like a suicide mission.ash73 said:
