I see that the ref from the fight has said that if wilders corner hadn't thrown in the towel he was on the verge of stopping it anyway. He'd given wilder that clue during the break before the 7th that he "wanted to see something coming back from him now".

Code for 'I'm stopping it if I don't see anything'.

This vindicates Breland.
I honestly wasn't sure if he'd even seen the towel, before it was thrown he was watching very closely and was clearly ready to jump in. Definitely didn't look like it was going to go on for any longer than a few more seconds after the towel came in.

He says that he saw the towel come in from the corner of his eye. He clearly welcomed it.

iirc, Ike actually lost his marbles after that fight and got put in prison and then a mental institution for a while. Was never the same after. Not surprising given Tua's punches - he was ridiculously heavy-handed and in my opinion the biggest left-hook in boxing

There were various issues around assaults, I think some of the alleged crimes took place before the Tua fight.

I recommended that one too, didn't realise it had already been mentioned. I think ike was always a little unbalanced. His crime was an awful one. I have heard several respected hard nut boxing people saying he is the scariest man they have ever met!!

Talking about talent wasted...Tony Ayala jr. An absolute animal in the ring. Sadly, the wrong type of animal outside it.

Other fights I'd recomend that sometimes slip under the radar. Jeff Fenech v azumah Nelson 1, hell, any fight with fenech or Nelson!! Salvador Sanchez v Nelson was incredible, Alexis arguello v Aaron Pryor, Duran v Buchanan. And nothing wrong with the classics, Duran v Leonard, Leonard v hearns. Duran v barkley was a great fight too.

Nothing wrong with a hobby matey! I collect OJ Simpson gloves. They're all a little small for me though.

Khan v Maidana was a top fight too. Maidana getting up from that sickening liver punch and Khan surviving that massive scare in the 10th round.

The ones he got sent down for were definitely after.

One of my favourite fights was Froch vs Bute. Just because of what the fight meant for Froch, coming off the back of a schooling from Ward.

The Taylor fight was decent, too.

I have read some of your comments and passions, with interest.

Could those of you enthusiasts suggest a variety of fights to watch for entertainment and perhaps must-see bouts? I have watched a few, obviously, but mainly the modern popular ones.
I’ll start... Ward v Gatti
https://youtu.be/hYkt9mdE5KQ
Benn v McClellan
That was one vicious fights - I just watched the highlights. Wow.
Pacquiao vs Marquez fights are fantastic, Marquez is one of my favourite fighters, loved his style/technique. I assume bolidemichael you have watched Barrera v Morrales too, again toe to toe fights. ...Think this has set me up for Friday once the kids have gone up! beer

ETA: Corrales (RIP) Vs Castillo.

Edited by Tickle on Thursday 27th February 07:18
Hey Tickle, these were incredible recommendations, thanks.

Pacman v Marquez - I found a four fight 25 min highlight vid on yt and wow - the second and final fights were properly intense - they all were, the first was spectacular too. Marquez is so explosive and such a strong neck. Some of the combos that they landed were crazy.

Barrera v Morales - never heard of 'em. I can't believe the a) Morales made it to the twelve with his non-existent defence and b) that he won. However, he has an unbelievable right. It's just a blur of punches.

Corrales v Castillo - what a come back by Corrales. It was so close and tightly fought at first and just opened up as the rounds progressed.

This is laughable, like a Charlie Chaplin fight. The referee was just there to count, whilst Dempsey barely waits for Willard to get to one knee before whacking him from behind! Willard was beaten to a pulp.

here's a guy you may not have even heard of.... sensational boxer who's career was cut short in the run up to his fight with a prime golovkin with a crippling back injury... i thought at that time nobody had a chance with golovkin...except pirog.

In my binge watching, Sugar Ray Leonard exhibits my favourite style so far... but I'm going to watch more of Pirog, he's like a cobra on legs!

oh..... a great shout from amir with gatti/ward trilogy......

if you go back to the 40s the greatest middleweight trilogy of all time.... rocky graziano v tony zale... well worth checking out!
I've caught up with the third - I can see where Stallone got his moves from... Graziano. I've now come across a documentary 'The Final Chapter', that features an interview with both Zale and Graziano together in the studio, which is awesome.

The chins on those guys! Didn't Tua fight Lewis and he took Lewis the distance?

Yeah, L.Lewis put on a smart boxing clinic that night, Tua lacked the movement to get inside. He was a savage devastating puncher, his highlight reel is worth another watch. Every guy he knocked out they always had a horrifying glazed look about them after, like when Cooney KO'd Ken Norton. When he KO'd John Ruiz, Michael Moorer and Shane Cameron i thought they were dead.
