What a boxer he was.

Was that the "golden age" of boxing or am I just nostalgic?
For me, it was a golden age because they wanted to fight each other more than they wanted to preserve a perfect record.

So many Hagler moments and anecdotes, sad day, God must have taken him when he was sleeping cos if he had been awake there would have been a hell of a fight...

Shocked to read of Haglers passing, given his retirement at his peak and lifestyle during and after boxing I'd sort of assumed he would live long. What a boxer and a strong and principled man. Legend.

I love to learn about his training methods and approach to camp. The article linked here is a good read for those interested in aspects of his training: http://stevemarantz.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11...

It would be great if anybody else has any anecdotes/training information to share about Hagler. I was 4 when he retired from boxing, so have mainly followed his career by reading library books about him, watching old VHS tapes with my older brother in the 90's and then later internet videos etc.

I really enjoy learning as much as possible about his approach to the sport.

I don’t remember hearing anything bad about Hagler. Just a superb pro and genuine nice guy.
I remember watching Minter/Hagler as a kid and thinking and genuinely believing Minter would win.
I couldn’t believe how Hagler took him apart and my dad said that is the difference between a very good boxer and a true great.
How right he was.

Favourite Hagler quotes, the ref is meant to have said to him before the third in the Hearns fight, that's a bad cut Marvin, I'm only gonna give you one more round, to which Marvin replied, I only need one more round...

Larry Holmes is said to have advised Hagler that he would have a very difficult career becayse- you're black, you're southpaw, and you're GOOD....

And before his retiral, his honesty, its hard to get up at 5am to do roadwork when your sleeping in silk pyjamas!!

I'll just leave this up as a tribute. Probably against the rules but the man was outstanding. Some people are far too young to have seen him. He is up there with the best of the best. RIP.

Side note - not sure if this is true or not, but Thomas Hearns posted that Hagler died due to Covid19 vaccine complications. There is a lot of chatter on boxing forums about this too.

Goodness me, what a round! By the end it was as though it were the end of the bout!

What's the backstory here?

Good walkthrough here:

Hagler, with his renowned chin, was expected to take the fight long and wear Hearns down. He had other ideas!

I love watching the slow motion replays as you can see what these guys are playing out in real time, amazing stuff!

Who've we got this weekend, Okolie vs Glowacki. Not a big fan of Okolie tbh and surprised to see that the bookies are making Okolie such a big favourite

Looking forward to seeing Ruiz back again looking like a proper boxer now! He must be kicking himself at how he showed up for the second AJ fight. Would like to see him in the mix with Usyk and maybe even Fury or a trilogy with AJ. Wilder would dodge him I reckon I think he's done picking quality opponents.

Aj and Fury really need to crack on now as their ever delayed fight is starting to hold the division back now.

Difficult matchmaking ahead for Wilders managers. They need to build him back with known names and KOs to a point where the a fight with AJ/Fury is too big for the opponent to ignore.

One loss and that could be it.
