WTF was the deal with Steve Gray in the Ritson fight last night?
Ritson was getting beaten up, his corner threw in the towel, and SG picked it up and threw it back out, allowing another minute of beatdown before stopping the fight
Here he is explaining to the corner after, I don't know Steve Gray but he's from around my way and I've seen him up close and I can tell you he's a first rate referee and a very well liked and respected man. It does happen occasionally, the referee has the final say on stopping any fight, quite rightly. There's a famous one a few years ago when Mickey Vann refused to stop a fight that was way worse than this event and the lad took about 4 more rounds.

Fury said he is coming in heavier, 300lb+.
Dont think many will be backing Wilder to win after that presser. The impression is that this is a big pay cheque to retire on.
yeap 100% agree. Dont think many will be backing Wilder to win after that presser. The impression is that this is a big pay cheque to retire on.

Fury wants to be 300lb. That's 21.5 stone or so. I dont think he needs all that weight for Wilder unless he thinks it will help his punch resistance. He was way to light for Wallen, I think a bit of weight doesn't harm him, but 300lb is, as Brian Glover said in American Werewolf in London, still too 'eavy....

I took that as a bluff tbh - he looks out of shape (as usual) and I'm pretty sure he contradicted/lied about his current training regimebiggbn said:

Fury looked in great shape when he beat Wlad, good shape for FW2, but at this press conference 5 weeks away from fight night, he doesn't look heavy, he looks badly out of shape IMO. More like he did in his first "comeback fight". I watched the highlights again yesterday of FW2, couldn't believe how low Wilder held his gloves, literally at waist height. Sure Fury threw a few good body shots, but most of the pressure and pain was going to the head. Crazy if he's that open again. What Wilder needed was some tough love from a seasoned trainer, but I think he's opted for a yes-man who tells him he's the greatest. If he loses then it's a final payday, but if he manages to win.....can you imagine?ThePackMan said:

I think he is one of those anomalous fighters whose performance can't be judged by his physical ability. His father maintains he is a 19st plus fighter and he looked physically Bob on against Wallen yet this was his worst performance for a good while. He is a big man, not a muscle man, but I have noticed he has that old man strength a younger man shouldn't have. He handles much more physically imposing fighter in the clinch with little problems, he knows how to use his physicality.
I think that's probably a centre of gravity thing, the big guys with huge shoulders, biceps and backs are a bit top heavy making them a bit easier to move around maybe? Fury's weight is definately a bit more central. Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
