Stokes had to finish his over from last night, so it made sense to keep him on for a few as he was warmed up already. Looks like he's finished the job off anyway.

Easy to be critical at this stage. Broad should have played though.

One thing is obvious, you don't need 2 spinners (3 with Root) if the ball continues to swing like it has been.

WI all out 289. Not great from 240 for 4.

This will be an interesting test for our top order, WI have a decent attack.

It is no comment on Stokes undoubted talents, he is a workhorse. But should be first change. 4 wickets at 2.31 is none shabby - but shows that its a seamer/quick pitch. The spinners got one (and that was lucky)

Were I ever out late at night in a club and needed a good lad to defend me from homophobic abuse he would be in my top 7 at least.

Interesting stat from the BBC text feed:

Andy Zaltzman
The Cricket Social statistician

Since 2001 there have been 88 opening batsmen who have opened in 15 or more Test innings when pace was bowled.
Keaton Jennings has the worst average of those against pace at 17.2. The next worst against pace was Javed Omar of Bangladesh, who averaged 19.1.

Now Jennings just got out against pace for.... 17

It's a shame it's not 19, because there's a song about that....

In all fairness is Broad drew a blank we'd all be saying Curran should have played.

Maybe it's my Surrey based biased opinion.

Which bowler gets picked is a bit of a moot point when you find yourselves 44-3 hehe

I'd have played both of them and left out a spinner.

Looks like a good idea rejecting that 4 day warm up game ...

WTAF?

Moeen out first ball, with score on 48 for 5, caught at deep fine leg pulling.

Brain dead.

I was going to ask if we might see the Windies batting again today, but we still need another 40 to avoid the follow on.

We'd better hope and pray Curran can get a ton at least.

This strikes me as typical England under Root. They have innings/matches where they just lose the plot. Too relaxed/arrogant?

Prediction - Root will get pelters, spit the dummy about how unfair it is and the team will pull out the stops next time to save his captaincy.

Spoke too soon. Denied by his batting partner, again...
