The big problem with blades is when you catch them high on the club face. They go absolutely nowhere.
If your tendency is to catch it a bit thin then they work just as well as comparatively lofted cavity backs, which is lucky for me
Yep, blades are all about the mists - catch it out of the toe or high up and you are going nowhere, low or out of the heel and you aren't giving anything up at all. I've used them for 15 years or so, currently on a set of Nike VR Pros, so I've "trained" my miss to one I can get away with. I found myself on a 9 hole par 27 pitch and putt course on the weekend. Holes ranged from 80yrds to 140yrds.
Armed with a hired 8 iron and a bullseye putter straight from the 1970s I shot 26! Unbelievable. The putter was absolutely fantastic.
So I did what any sensible golfer would do and went hunting for one to buy!
Ended up on purchasing this beauty. A Nike Method Mod 90. A classic bullseye with a modern twist...
I don't care if it performs or not. It's got to be one of the best looking putters I have ever seen.

I always struggled with the Bullseye, but used a similar era putter, the Wilson 8802 for 20 years and loved it - those old putter put such a pure roll on the ball. Not hugely forgiving if you miss the centre, but feel is unmatched. Armed with a hired 8 iron and a bullseye putter straight from the 1970s I shot 26! Unbelievable. Sadly it looks like I may have to replace my 3 Wood soon, as it's making some concerning rattles after one too many range sessions. I've had a look round and I'm leaning towards the Titleist TS3 or the TM M6, has anyone hit them both to compare?
I went into American Golf yesterday to have a look, sadly they didn't have anything stiffer than a Stiff Shaft for me to try (my current 3 Wood is X-Stiff).

Not a ts3 but I tried a ts2 a week or so ago and didn’t like it. It seems to sit very flat and the head looked a bit too bit compared to what I am used to. Also couldn’t hit a draw with it at all.
I went to my local club to get fitted for a TS3, and with the same shaft I had in my Hybrid (Aldila Rogue X Flex) I was getting a useful extra 15 yards over my current Nike. Haven't ordered one though, as he also gave me a 917 F3 to try, with the same shaft, and gained another 10 yards over the TS3!
So he's putting a new grip on the ex-demo 917, and I pick it up at the weekend. Rather than £269, it's £149 all in.
He also gave me an ex-demo 917 D3 to try, which was giving a useful distance bump on my old Driver, even though it was fit with completely the wrong shaft for me. I suspect I'll be getting that as well

Anyone putting any money on the US Open or following it? Love that it's at Pebble - looks absolutely stunning.
Had a few bets yesterday. Put a £10 free bet I needed to use up on Rory to win. Then took up an offer with William Hill where anytime your selection makes an eagle they give you a free £10 bet so picked Koepka. Then a little flutter on the following each way:Phil Mickelson
Patrick Cantlay
Si Woo Kim

Recently come back from 3 days at Prince’s in Kent - great courses (3 different 9’s) in superb condition, particularly the greens.
The weather was great and, if you stay at the lodge, the food and hospitality were great too.
It was breezy when we played, but I can’t imagine you get many days when it isn’t windy, and clearly that’s a key part of links golf.
Highly recommended!
Royal St George’s next door looked immaculate, but I’m not sure it would be worth 3-4x the price!
I played Prices with a society some years back... in February, with a 30-45mph gale blowing off the channel. It was the single most painful round of golf I've ever played. The weather was great and, if you stay at the lodge, the food and hospitality were great too.

Only seemed to be a couple of holes down wind... on the 1st (playing 430 yards), I hit 2 iron then 7 iron, and ended up 30 yards through the back in knee high hay.... that was about as good as it got.
2 societies played that day. 80 golfers. 2 broke 30 points. I've never played links golf again.
Lunch was excellent.

Had similar at Littlestone this February....when you're hitting driver, driver and still not making a 360-380 yard par 4 somethings a little wrong!Only seemed to be a couple of holes down wind... on the 1st (playing 430 yards), I hit 2 iron then 7 iron, and ended up 30 yards through the back in knee high hay.... that was about as good as it got.

Ended up taking a driver of the last par 3 too (16th?) to just try and keep it low enough and punt and run it down

You need to come up to Scotland where almost every seaside town has a course, many of which are real hidden gems.

Unfortunately, with my home course having so many ponds and lakes and being close to a wildfowl centre along with hatching season just gone the course can very often have a lot of intruders....

Has anybody had experience of playing in the Mercedes Trophy?
The OH got an email a few weeks ago from Mercedes inviting her to enter the draw, put my name down and got pulled out the hat (to be honest I thought it was a one-off client entertainment day laid on by the dealership; not a full-on global competition!)
Played at St Andrews Dukes in the p1ssing rain with 130 yard visibility.
I play off 22 and finished with an abysmal 20 Stableford points, bailed on the "lunch" and prize giving as it was 1430hrs with 9 other groups still to come in and drove home soaked to Aberdeen.
Got an email from AC the next day congratulating me for winning my category and the next round is to be held at St George's Hill in Surrey with accommodation at MB Brooklands.
That's a team Stableford event with the other category winners from my region. If we win that then we progress through to the National Finals at St Andrews. Win that and its off to Stuttgart next year for the world finals - long way to go though!
