Anyone here from Staffordshire? I’ve recently started getting back into golf and was wondering if anyone had used any local pga pros for lessons who they would happily recommended...
Cheers
I've never met him, but former Ryder Cup player David Gilford teaches at Greenway Hall in Stoke on Trent.Cheers
I don't know if he's a good teacher, but he's played in the bloody Ryder Cup, so who cares!?

My FIL and his mates swear by Neville Bland at Brocton Hall. Cheers
Sadly, the Cobra One Length adventure has come to an end.
No reason really just fancied a change.
Went to american golf armed with my 7 iron yesterday. I had my eye on the Wilson D7 irons, currently gaming the D7 Driver and love it and i'm a big fan of Wilson gear.
Hit 10 shots with my 7 iron and the average distance came in at 166 which is pretty much bang on my normal 7 iron distance. Then moved onto the D7. Instantly i noticed the KBS shaft. I just don't get on with any KBS shafts for one reason or another and it showed. Left misses, right misses, fat shots. However, the distance was impressive regardless. A few got out to 180yrds.
I then tried out the UST Recoil graphite shaft. I love the feel of lighter clubs and this felt perfect. First shot.....................205yrds! The following 9 shots followed suit. Over the 10 shots the average came in at 207yrds. Hit another 10 shots but this time going easy and not full out as i had been.more of my on course swing so to speak, and the average distance came in at 189yrds with a nice tight left to right dispersion. Bloody lovely.
I checked the lofts expecting the D7 7 iron to be a lot stronger than my Cobra but it was only 2 degrees stronger.
I tried the pitching wedge and was comfortably getting 150yrds and again with tight dispersion.
That was enough for me. the deal was done. 5-GW, +1/4inch, 2 deg upright with stiff graphite shafts (never thought id be buying graphite shafted irons!). I now have a long 2 week wait for them.
The only dilemma i now have is sorting out wedges. I took my old Cleveland wedges down the chipping green earlier and couldn't hit them for st. Got home and weighed them and they are a good 70grams heavier than my cobra wedges which i hit lovely. So definitely want to go down the lightweight route with the wedges too. Possibly some graphite shafted Wilson PMP wedges. We'll see.

Interesting to read that
I’m a little weird in the sense I’m the opposite - like the feel of heavier clubs and happy to give up distance for shot shaping/consistency. Have AP2’s with X100’s and mid-size grips which make most clubs rather heavy...
I also almost never hit my irons at more than 80%, knowing at that I have my yardages locked and normally get my accuracy 100%. It does mean I crack a driver 270-280 but a 8 iron is my 150 club...

I've experimented with lead tape on irons, cut down shafts on drivers, home made one length hybrids, sand filled shafts in putters...but every time i've tried a club that's overly light it has just felt right. I'm guessing it's down to some sort of tempo or timing with my swing.
I took my old Fly-Z driver to the range the other day and compared to my D7 which i have been using for a good few weeks the Fly-Z felt like a wrecking ball in comparison.
I've been watching Mark Crossfield's vids on shafts and how he says that they don't really make a difference but i can definitely say that for me they do.
It's a strange old game!

Fellow weirdo here - if I use too light a shaft my dispersion goes all over the place. As a result I have ended up with the heaviest shafts on the market (S400 Tour Issue) in a set of VR Pros. But then I learned to play in the 80's when lightweight steel wasn't really a thing, so the sledgehammer feel of a heavy club keeps my tempo good and means the ball goes where I am it. Most of the time anyway
Can anyone make any recommendations for stable putters? I know stability is in the hands of the stick-wielder but I feel like I could do with a bit of help in that department. I keep catching myself watching the putter as it goes back just to see how much wobble I'm putting on it, with predictable results.
