Right well here I am fresh from the practice ground and Jim I owe you a massive beer. That technique you suggested not only worked for the bunker but it has become my new technique of choice for short chips around the green too! Amazing! Thank you so much. Just in time for a big away day on Thurs which I haven't been looking forward to because of this problem. Realised something else today which is that I have been reverting back to my old baseball swing. Kept the swing much more upright today and again that seemed to be working really well on the pitching wedges at least. Hope it all sticks for Thursday! Thanks again.
Great news and hats off to Jim for the tips. Jeez, I read your post about all the work you put in but still no results - that must have been really frustrating. Hopefully that's you on your way now getting shot of your bunker blues!
Thanks, that's kind of you. Yesterday, less than 24 hours after I went out and had such success with Jim's tip, I went out to the same practice area and proceeded to shank myself into oblivion. I have no idea what goes on in my head sometimes. Anyway, there's a chance to redeem the situation this afternoon with the Seniors Medal. Past experience suggests I'll be OK again. Hope so, as it's the big away day tomorrow.

Anyone watching the Tour Championship. Rory is playing like a star. 6 holes left, with a 2 shot lead.
US$ 15mio is nearly his!

Rory playing like the old Rory. Smashing it miles down the middle, wedging it on, and putting solidly.

Proper golf.

I always sense that he seems to play better when the purse is quite high?! Read in to that what you will.

No majors, but the Players and the Tour Championship & Fed Ex. Not bad a bad year for Rory.

Had one of our last majors of the season yesterday - didn't get off to the greatest start, spending the first 5 holes punching out of trees. Thought I'd steadied the ship with a par on 6, then tugged a 3 wood OOB on 7 on my way to a triple, so at that point I thought that was pretty much that, Decided to just enjoy myself and started producing some of the most solid golf of my life, playing the rest of the round in 1 under.

Signed for 39 points, and won the competition by 1 shot biggrin

Add in the wins for Rory and Carly Booth, I'd say yesterday was a pretty good day.

Funny that Rory had recently moaned about the format of that event... still won it by quite a margin.

I have not picked up a club in 4 weeks for various reasons, but I aim to make amends when I fly back home to SA on Thursday night - I can't bloody wait.

Hopefully I will also get a game in at my future home course - Kloof Golf Club. I also have a meeting with the "team" responsible for Memberships, but believe that this is just more of a "what package do you want?" thing.

The hours at work are not going by quick enough.

I don't like the new FedEx cup format. After 36 holes, most of the field were out of it.

Bookies had 4 players as decent bets, 2 outsiders and 24 need a miracle / long shots.

Yes, they got the correct winner as Rory was top 5 going in plus he shot the best gross....but it lacked the excitement of previous years. Still enjoyed the Brooks and Rory battle over 18 holes though. 66,67,68,66 is some scoring round that course. Those rounds helped Rory squeeze into the No1 position for the best average 18 hole score for the season.

Not been in here for a while but thought I’d share in something that may help others. I have been bouncing between 8 and 9 for a few years now but Mrs Blue bought me ‘Your 15th Club’ by Bob Rotella for Xmas. I read his previous book a few years ago and it helped but this one has had quite an effect. I’m now off 6 and while I won’t put it all down to the book, it has really helped me, especially in matchplay. I recommend it to any student of the game.

I still use the Wilson d100 hybrids. Since buying them a couple of years back I've bought10 different hybrids and each time end up going back to the d100 hybrids.

Out of all the hybrids I've owned the d100 is the one least likely to go left. It's very fade biased which is a refreshing change from the usual hook happy hybrids out there.

Well, finally my game has come back (a bit). 5th game today since coming back to SA and by far the best score - 79 (Par 72). Played in Inward 9 first and ended +1 (it should have been so much better with x2 double bogeys thrown in). Outward 9 was not as good as I would have liked and shot +6 - my wedge play left me out in the cold.

Scores to date: 85, 85, 82, 81 and then today a 79. Very happy with that.

If your game suddenly improves (say because you've stopped topping every other driver...) and your scoring tumbles as a result such that you are winning matches with ease and winning/placing in comps, are you supposed/expected to apply for a voluntary reduction in your handicap? Or is it acceptable to let the cuts from your scores reduce your handicap over a period?

I've gone the other way recently, from a society high of 13 to not being able to get anywhere near my official club handicap of 18.

After a purple patch, I seemed to have regressed

From hcp13 in July, won a medal and cut a whole shot to 12, my last 4 carded rounds have been in the 90's.
But I have made the medal final on the 29th September, so hopefully I can pull something out the bag and get my name on a trophy.

I don't seem to be able to combine all aspects of the game in one round, drive well then chip and putt awfully, putt well with shoddy long irons, and so on and so on.

I'm going get a regular lesson structure set up over the winter, and really work on greenside, bunkers and putting aspects - this time next year I would like to be saying im a single figure player again.

I am not sure about the UK, but in South Africa, if you register a round which throws up a differential lower than your handicap, you are cut immediately - it may not be a whole shot, but you are cut depending on the differential. If I played everyday and registered every single round, my handicap could fluctuate daily, however, the system they have is quick to reduce your handicap, but slow to increase it - bit like the tax man! hahahaha

I used to be a regular golfer from the age of about 9-16 (basically until i had to pay my membership myself & couldn't afford to anymore).
When i stopped playing i think i was off about 15-16 so nothing too low, but respectable.

I've played maybe 2-3 times in the last 15 years, even managed to win the longest drive at a corporate day.

Went out with a mate the other evening to a local pitch & put 18 hole course & was incredibly embarrassed... hook/slice/hook/slice.

He didn't believe me when i said i used to be able to play to an ok standard.

So last night i went out the local range with my bag of clubs & hit 120 balls.... it felt good to be back hitting balls & think i only hit 1 duff shot all evening, all be it i was a sweaty mess when i finished!
