I used to be a regular golfer from the age of about 9-16 (basically until i had to pay my membership myself & couldn't afford to anymore).
When i stopped playing i think i was off about 15-16 so nothing too low, but respectable.
I've played maybe 2-3 times in the last 15 years, even managed to win the longest drive at a corporate day.
Went out with a mate the other evening to a local pitch & put 18 hole course & was incredibly embarrassed... hook/slice/hook/slice.
He didn't believe me when i said i used to be able to play to an ok standard.
So last night i went out the local range with my bag of clubs & hit 120 balls.... it felt good to be back hitting balls & think i only hit 1 duff shot all evening, all be it i was a sweaty mess when i finished!
im a scratch golfer on the driving range. tell me to hit an 8iron to 2ft of the 150 marker - no probs, easyWhen i stopped playing i think i was off about 15-16 so nothing too low, but respectable.

ask me to do hit it to 2ft from same distance on a golf course - absolutely no chance!
Played 2 cracking courses over the last couple of days.
Friday I played at the Wildernesse Club, Sevenoaks. Wow, a very very nice course in absolutely superb condition - if you get the chance to play it, you must.
36 points.
Yesterday I played at Piltdown. Played there before about 4 years ago. I think they’ve invested over £500,000 since and the results are fantastic. Again, superb condition. Not overly long and no bunkers but heather everywhere which is deadly.
34 points.
A very enjoyable couple of days, superb weather helped!

Anyone going to wentworth this week? We are there on Wednesday for the pro am again, Sam as last year. Should be a great day out.
I'm there Saturday & Sunday, usually we go Friday & Saturday but the date change scuppered that plan. This does mean that who we see could depend on the cut this year.

Just started watching the Sondheim Cup highlights on the Beeb. Jesus, those American outfits are awful
And the American’s annoying shouts of “in the hole” seems to have been replaced by “USA all the way”. Repeat ad nauseam
Worth watching, it's neck and neck at the moment. And the American’s annoying shouts of “in the hole” seems to have been replaced by “USA all the way”. Repeat ad nauseam
Come on Georgia & Charlie!
Very lucky living a few miles away. Thankfully the travel arrangements had been sorted - for the Ryder Cup we had to travel 15 miles in the wrong direction to get on a bus to then travel another 15 miles back into the course. This time we were able to drive in through back roads.
Weather was challenging on Saturday, but thankfully playable. Some of the time spent over the shots though were in DeChambeau territory.
The course is a bit of a pig - good for spectating, but a brute to play especially if you are an amateur. I thought the competitors tamed it pretty well. And what a dramatic end.
Apart from the slow play, a great advert for golf, the women's game and Scottish inland courses. But play the Queens, not the PGA.

Played in our monthly medal yesterday - course was playing tough, rough had grown a massive amount since last week leaving some thick lies, and the greens had been sanded, so although they were running true enough, green speeds weren't terribly consistent.
Wasn't swinging particularly well, but managed to keep it on the island and didn't need to take a provisional all day (quite an achievement for me) and my short game was on form - I felt like every time I had a wedge in my hand it was going close. Ended up getting up and down 5 times, which kept the score going, ended up signing for a 77 (nett 69). Ended up winning the medal on countback, and am through to the end of season finale.
I've also been done for general play :| When I teed it up 3 weeks ago I was off 10 (9.5), now I've been slashed down to 7 (7.1) Lowest I've ever been, but might take a little getting used to....

That's some cut from 9.5 to 7.1 in 3 weeks.

I am yes - mostly as 3 years ago I made the decision to start getting lessons and see if I could make my swing a bit more consistent and hit my good shots more often. It's taken a lot of work, hundreds of range balls and some fairly dispiriting rounds where, due to the changes, I couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo, but it's finally started all coming together. Last 5 rounds have been 78, 79, 77, 80 and another 77. That's some cut from 9.5 to 7.1 in 3 weeks.
Makes a massive difference not constantly playing 3, or even 5 off the tee I still think there is more to come, but am fairly proud of what I've done so far.

Excellent achievement. I don’t seem to be able to consistently put together no 3s off the tee, and good iron and short game play. It’s usually one or the other, which is massively frustrating!Makes a massive difference not constantly playing 3, or even 5 off the tee I still think there is more to come, but am fairly proud of what I've done so far.
