Excellent achievement. I don’t seem to be able to consistently put together no 3s off the tee, and good iron and short game play. It’s usually one or the other, which is massively frustrating!
I don't disagree, consistency has been the biggest battle, and the biggest grind to improve. For me it's been a case of finding a move through the ball that works on all shots and just practising that - for instance when I started working on it I had a good looking swing that was full of issues - casting from the top, an overswing, taking the club back inside then coming over the top - oh and a flick through the ball with my right wrist to try to keep it straight.

In fact I think I can see why it's taken me 3 years to fix hehe

With my coach we worked on changing it round, so rather than letting my hands and arms dictate the downswing, rotated my body and shoulders more to bring the club through naturally, and the good thing is this works on most shots, from a small pitch and run to a smash with the driver, just the length of swing and effort on the way through changes.

Hope that makes sense, I'm more of a feel player so sometimes struggle to articulate what I've trying to do hehe

I think you're spot on Bodhi.

Width of backswing for me is key - keep it as wide as possible on the take away, giving more room on the way back down. And rotating with your body rather than being 'armsy.'

Height is another issue - trying to really reach as high as I can with my hands on the backswing. Much bigger arc = much more power.

it's something I'm starting to see some real success with.

Good work on the cut!

Thank you sir smile

Whilst browsing FB last year I cam across and article in Golf Digest which put into words what I'm trying to achieve, thinking being the simpler the swing the more repeatable it is. Link below for anyone wanting to try it out, I'd highly recommend it:

Anyone know the best solution for the 'yips' in putting? Have struggled for a few years, always seem to have a little yip as i come through the stroke and its been driving me mad! Used to enjoy putting but now it is a dread...

Tough one.

I would suggest eyeballing a spot 3-4 inches in front of the ball as you make your stroke, and try to disregard the ball, and instead concentrate on watching the putter head (and of course, the ball) passing over that point.

The problem is between your ears, and so is the solution, so it's a tough one to get help with, IMO.

I have had a couple of putting lessons recently, and have cut my putts by at least 4 per round in the last 2 months. Unfortunately its not the putting that's letting me down at present, but that's golf.

suggestions:

a) mark a line round the ball which you can line up with the hole (or your intended line) and align with a mark on your putter, this takes away any doubt you have the right line.

b) take the putter head back only 2 or 3 inches at most (work out the measurement precisely at home with a ruler or something) and then make sure you follow through with your stroke at least to the outside of your left foot (if you are right handed)

c) focus on the ball (I choose a particular spot or dimple) and then just keep your head still and looking at where the ball was until after you have finished your stroke, so don't look towards the hole, don't follow the ball with you eyes, just look down at the green/spot where the ball was until you have finished the stroke (ie the stroke is finished as in b above)

C takes some getting used to, you have to trust yourself BUT once you have connected with the ball then nothing you can do can change things anyway, so its about the process before and during the connection.

Ah thanks for the advice - will try next time I am on the weekend (weather permitted) and will try both of what you have said.

Fingers crossed I can get back to my putting of old!

Great day at wentworth today, although we had a slightly embarrassing moment with Westwood.

Never ask a pro for a photo when they have duffed it into the trees :-)

I'm not sure if you're on instagram but Ben Stokes played yesterday and he uploaded a video of him hitting a shot down the 18th and its fair to say he has a talent. striked it like a pro, frightening!

Managed to take my form from last week into this weekends stroke play comp, winning with a net 69!
Could have been so much better - that included three doubles and a triple. Still, it might see me down to 11.

Thoughts on Danny Willet?

Sure he was 66/1 at the start of the week!

Great to see someone playing with a smile on his face, he genuinely looked like he was enjoying the experience this week, which is sadly a bit of a rarity nowadays.

Good for him to get the win. Was reading that after the Masters win his form fell off a cliff and last year was something like 400 in the world. Changed everything (caddie, coach) and got back to basics and saw his form improve.

Nice to get the win in a strong field as well.

Yep, whilst his comeback wasn't quite at the level of Tiger's, in addition to the lack of form he was having some serious back issues which made practicing a challenge. He's not that popular in the US, after his brother was a bit too honest in press conference, but am made up for the guy.

We saw Willett bash an iron down the 8th on Wednesday, most were hitting 3woods.

Really solid. We were watching people make a right horlicks of the 12th yesterday (par 5, drive between two trees, dogleg left to a well bunkered green). A lot of players were hitting long 2nds which put them on the false front to the green and then making a terrible hash of the 20yd shot to the hole. Rahm included. Rose took a 7 on there. Willett knocked his 2nd short and lobbed one onto the green from there. Much more sensible.

I'm not his biggest fan, but it's always nice to see someone overcome some serious hurdles to recapture some form so well done to him.

Cracking closing round as well, the 2nd into 18 was some shot!

Was an unbelievable shot - helped with Rahm going in the hazard but nevertheless, some shot.

Whats it like then?

I'm thinking of going for an M3 or M4 - some good value to be had on previous model now these are out and can't quite stomach the new model prices smile
