Official ICC Cricket World Cup - Summer 2019 One Dayers

another good batting perfomance yesterday - tournaments are about peaking at the right time, there will be a few upsets no doubt - england might cop for one somewhere along the line.
anything other than a final appearance will seem like a disappointment though for me. this has been building for years and home support i'm sure will count for the odd wicket and 20 odd runs per match maybe.
the Aussies are a bit of an unknown quantity here though but i'm sure will get a lovely warm welcome
what I hope though is that it doesn't become a total run fest and it is a fair contest between bat and ball

It's nice to see occasionally but not a fan of these 350+ vs 350+ odis every other match. Something needs to be done to even up the battle between bat and ball. Even just making the boundaries bigger would help.
Not so sure, Bairstow put three over the stands and Roy put one on the fourth floor balcony of the flats... I broadly agree that perhaps slightly raised seams might help, or free sandpaper for bowlers to use between overs.
On the other hand I think the crowd like to see the big hits, Did anyone really enjoy watching Athers or Cook accumulate 45 in 30 overs ?
I just have tickets for Aus v West Indies.
Bit of sentimental value for me, we watched the game me and my dad in the carribean when I got married (St Lucia - March 2012), sadly he passed away 8 months later, so not sure how I am going to feel game day, but it was one game I felt I had to go to!
But I think west indies will do well - they are a bit hit and miss, they will either be crap or good!

That was a great run chase.....Stokes batted superbly as did Curran and Rashid in a high pressure situation. I feared the worst when Ali and Butler went quickly. Roy is just imperious.....he just hits the ball so bloody hard...even something like a defensive back foot punch comes off the back pretty quick!
i think the top seven will pick itself tbh
Bairstow
Roy
Root
Morgan
Stoakes
Butler
Ali
Then i feel it's only the Bowling conundrum left
Curren has a superb strike rate better than the rest i'd say & he bats a bit & is a real slippery mixer of bowling tricks
Rashid i feel will have to play
Willey offers good swing
Archer & Wood offer raw pace
Woakes is sharp controlled operator
Plunkett seems to get wickets when the others do not
Jordan , is he not even in the frame ?
Vince & Denly will get in the squad as the extra bats & Denly could get through a few overs for the captain.
Decisions, decisions.

I agree about the batting lineup, although I'd play Stokes and Buttler rather than Stoakes and Butler.
Bowling will depend on the pitch, conditions and opposition. Willey might be vulnerable, as he's not getting the white Kookaburra to swing, which is his main attribute, so Archer and Wood become the default choice to open, with Wood interchangeable with Woakes because of his ongoing ankle problems and the forthcoming Ashes series.
Have England ever been in the position of having such a choice of good bowlers and all-rounders prior to a major tournament? The issue for Ed Smith and his fellow selectors is which top-class bowlers to leave out. Chris Jordan, a specialist "death bowler" and probably England's best fielder, might not even make the squad.
On yesterday's match, credit must go to Ben Stokes, who stood up and held the innings together when we lost Root, Buttler and Moeen within 17 balls (I think) for next to nothing. The recovery was helped by Pakistan's risible fielding, which was reminiscent of India of old, but he, together with Joe Denly, Tom Curran and Adil Rashid did enough to see us through to a series victory.
Yesterday's game was probably the best thing to happen to England in the run-up to the World Cup - the lower order haven't really been called upon until now, and they stood up and took England over the line.

Anyone else on here volunteering at the World Cup?
Saw the advert last autum and after a mate of mine had such a great time as a gamesmaker at London 2012, thought I'd give it a whirl.
Despite my background in sports media, I ended up grabbing a role in Accreditation at the Bristol venue. Had my training sessions in the spring and completed my first shift last Wednesday. Got three more shifts this week including the matchday at Bristol next Saturday between Afghanistan & Australia. My shift will coincide with the innings of whoever bats first but I'll be finished by the time (hopefully) the Afghans chase down 350 to beat the Aussies!
