It's that sort of report/quotes from Root that I don't like.

Teeing up for a drubbing in the first test, then they'll get angry and win the second and third by a mile.

So the squad's been announced for the first test and there's no Leach. What a surprise! MOM performance, albeit with the bat, in the last test yet they stick with Ali.

How Burns gets in, I have no idea.

I appreciate his boat has clearly sailed a decade ago now but England could have done far worse than stick James Hildreth in at three. On form again this season and a steady, reliable bat.

And while I'm on a pro-Somerset rant, Lewis Gregory deserves a proper call up. He's third in the County Championship averages with 44 wickets at 13 this season, the two guys above him have played one game each, therefore could be filtered out of the numbers for being too small a sample.

Don't lets kid ourselves. Ali is basically in the side for his bowling and has been for some time.
I personally think he's 50/50 to make the field in any test. We have a lot of good players as a result of the WC who have pushed ahead of him in terms of getting in the on-field 11 for the Ashes Tests.

Weather looks set reasonably fair tomorrow.

2015 there were alot of one sided tests but i'm hoping its closer this time.

I expect to win the first, lose at lords, Oval draw, headingley - who knows....Old Trafford - England win, I expect to win the ashes but it will be tough.

Broad and Jimmy's last ashes - hope we get some decent pitches and conditions to make it a good contest between bat and ball....

I am on my way to Edgbaston right now, ready for tomorrow. Bowlers will be Jimmy A, Broad, Woakes, Stokes and Moeen.

No Archer or Stone. I am a little surprised on Archer, but I think it’s a fair call to go with your experienced guys.

Join me in wishing for an England toss, and to bat first. I much prefer to watch us bat.

I'm there on Sunday - if there is any play. Weather forecast not looking clever.

I thought Archer was carrying an injury. Glad they pick Woakes instead of Wood.

Archer played a county game last week so he is fit. Wood is still injured though.

I am fairly sure Archer will get a go this summer. Be interesting to see if Broad is still a reliable wicket taker. I have a feeling he may get smashed out of the attack and very quickly out of the team. Hope I am wrong Stuart would love to see you get 500

iArcher only played a 20/20 game bowling only 4 overs .

England can’t possibly lose this series. Damp, cloudy, wet conditions. Green wickets. Robust batting line up, world’s best bowlers and home ground advantage at places like Lords and Headingley, where they hardly ever lose.

Ashes are as good as in the Long Room already...

Isn’t Lords one of our worst performing grounds?

A lot of this hangs on whether your lot have improved their cheating methods or not.
Being Aussies though, I can't see them refining things or thinking it through much.
I hope they're not booed. Forgive & forget and all...

IMO the ashes will be won and lost with England's higher order batsmen.
If they perform we win.
If they don't we lose.

I agree John, The Aussies basically only have three players, not sure they can carry the weight of mediocrity of the rest of the team. I guess we will see.

Th actual Ashes are always at Lords. When the Aussies win they get a replica.

Lord's isn't exactly a fortress for us, it says much about the English sense of fair play that we play there as often as we do.
