It's still a mighty challenge but after that Anus horriblis shot from Stokes the other day ( not sure if I spelt it right but anus is the jist) he has learnt from that and did 2 runs off 50 balls. Boycott would proud. As I mentiioned before no time pressure.

Root played well considering it's apparently impossible for him to play at 3 . I did like his comment to Aggers whilst walking off the pitch, shows he has felt the media pressure.

Both of them just need to get through the new ball and reach lunch. Then Stokes can start pushing up that strike rate from 4 to 6 ... or even 7 !

We can do it if we just grind it out of them, bowling all day in that tropical sun of Yorkshire, the assies will melt.

As long as we don't give wickets away.

Tomorrow I want England to bore us all to death and win. That's proper test match cricket. Apart from 1981 of course. bow

Just caught the TMS podcast from day 2. Opens with Aggers going "warning, this podcast contains an angry Yorkshireman."

hehe

Then I got confused, as thought he was referring to "Sir" Geoffrey, but Vaughany seemed quite cross, and thought I'd got it wrong as he used to play for Abbeydale and Yorkshire, but no Boycs came in at the end.

They had a bit of a combative discussion at the end around teaching youngsters to play 20 over cricket, look to score of every ball, when even Cooky admitted he came into Test cricket with 3 and a half shots. Of course bloody Boycott claimed he had all the shots but just chose not to use them. bks to that, there are a lot of shots played in Biff bash bosh games, even one sayers, that were never around when Boycott played. Even Aggers got pissed off with him blowing off.

Anyway what is it now, 1 point something runs per over. Make the Australians bowl all day, really knacker them.

England all out by 4pm is my hunch.
Can't even beat the Aussies without the new Bradman out injured.
If Smith had played, we would have lost by an innings.
Poor beyond words.

Looks like game on, well done your lot for picking it up after the utter debacle of the first innings.

With still quite a way to go and the new ball just around the corner and the bowlers refreshed by a good nights sleep the first session should be interesting

With England rocketing along at over 1 run per over, they could bat all day tomorrow without reaching the target.
Do you still have those cheap tickets? smile

I think I’d be more impressed if they played for and got the draw than if the middle order scored another couple of hundred at a canter.

Reckon we are all resigned to Ashes lost.

Given that, then I agree with above comment. I'd be well impressed if England could bat it out, get the draw. One or more of these bowlers would be injured at the end. Problem is they've got Starc and Sidders fresh back out of the box again. But it would be a start to altering the mindset.

Just to follow on from that podcast discussion about learning to play, Cooky joked that his off drive was always suspect because when as a kid he was learning in the garden cover drives were banned as the greenhouse was in the way. When I learnt you were allowed two slogs per innings, second slog and you were out automatically just so the few fielders weren't sent running all over the place, not to mention not losing the ball. So folks concentrated on preserving their wicket and learning to play safe shots for a single or two. Christ, isorry, sound like Boycott, better get those sticks of rhubarb into a crumble sharpish. lick

Was an interesting day of cricket. The wicket is dead as a doornail. Very good bowling beat the bat throughout the day but couldn’t find an edge.

I think Eng are on the verge of an historic win. 200 is nothing on that track and there is a lot of batting in the hutch. Aus had a great chance at 15-2 and Root and Denly toughed it out.

I think 1-1 at the end of today.

I agree, the Aussie bowlers just aren’t; all that. Whereas Bairstow, Buttler and Woakes have an easy task to knock these off.

It's only day 4, there won't be a draw, it'll either be a win or a loss for us.

I didn't think they had it in them to bat it out for the day yesterday, so fair play. I'm still expecting a collapse today though. If we can make it through to lunch, then we might have a slim chance.

I can’t see us doing it if we try and grind all day, however I can if one if a quick 50/60 is produced by one of the mid order whilst the others accumulate.

End of Roy as an opener for me.
+1

I've let Ed Smith know I'm available again
Roy as good as he is is not a test match cricketer, he's great when the bowler has to bowl a non swinging ball in the slot.

I'm a huge Surrey & Roy fan but he's no test match batsman that's for sure.

Yeah. I meant unlucky in the fact it came off his leg. You'd think he'd want to be in for the new ball, but obviously not!
