SA might have been rubbish, but to win an overseas series 3-1 from 1 down having lost your number one opening bat, number one opening bowler and number one spinner is a hell of an achievement
Agreed it was a good result. Being the dour soul I am, I'm predicting nothing at the moment. Root's teams have form for this sort of bounce only to rest on their laurels for the next one. Let's see...
I think Joe Root is starting to develop his captaincy, there is clear evidence of better decision making at work. He also has options now, which he arguably lacked before, so he has a choice of batsmen, a choice of seamers and proper selection of spinners.
That patient application of pressure in the field when the wickets just wouldn't fall yesterday was a far cry from our team performance last year when heads would go down at the first sign that the wicket had flattened out.

I think it's more important that Chris Silverwood appears to be settling into his role and has squad choices. Something many of his predecessors have not had.
The tensions between the Counties and central contracts and the short vs long form of the game continue, but he's doing a good job.

Either way, i believe there is more of a togetherness at the moment within the squad and there is fresh young talent coming through. Really enjoying watching the cricket at the moment, and as an avid Football fan, I am swaying towards following cricket more so than Football.
That was too much of a weakened side for me to be all bothered about the outcome. Shame really, I thought the idea was to play our best squad in these sorts of games, especially as we're the World Cup holders? That bowling attack was all at sea. No Moeen, Rashid, Woods, Plunkett or Archer, and no Buttler or Stokes.

It is, but this series for whatever reason is not included in the ODI rankings. So gave the management a chance to look at a few new faces. I don't like it either. Perhaps its ok on a long tour, but I'd be annoyed as a ticket payer to pay to watch such a depleted team.

I can see the point in playing a few new faces in a friendly but that must’ve been rather dispiriting for the newbies, especially that hopeless bowling performance.
The bowlers were always going to struggle....batting line up fked it. They twice lost “wickets in pairs” which is a disaster especially when it’s your Top 4 batsmen involved. Really poor. Still the one I ask excited to see develop is Banton, Vaughan was talking about him the other day on TMS Podcast...Darren Lehman reckons he is the best player he has ever done thrown downs to in the nets! That’s an incredible statement. Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
