I've just had a quick hit at the Club. Very nice. They are upgrading to GC Quad in a few weeks so will wait until that is installed and go for a fitting.

Seriously considering the Mizuno MP20 MMC for my next set of irons - maybe with the 5 and 4 iron in the HMB.

Look lovely!

I was torn between these and the p790s just the flip of a coin in the end, but Im a sucker for changing and mizuno will more than likely by my next clubs.

I had a try of these over winter in my search for a new 3 iron - went in thinking I was going to get something forgiving and easy to use, like what the pros do.

Of course I came out having only tried the MP20 MB and Titleist 620MB, and having ordered the MB 3 iron hehe

It's interesting how people see things so differently!

I'm not a big fan of TM stuff, and generally like my lofts to be pretty traditional.

As is it the MP20 MMC's are 1 degree stronger than my current irons. I certainly wouldn't want to lose 3 degrees!

My only reservation about the MMC's is 'am I good enough?!' Having said that I plan on putting some serious work into my golf once the clocks go forward so can really work on them.

One thing I didn't / don't take into account is the lofts, whenever I'm changing I put more than enough practice in for the gapping / yardages so I see it as a little irrelevant.

Things I always base my purchases on are -

General performance - flight, spin forgiveness

Feel - while the p790s feel good, you can't beat the mizunos here

Looks - imo both are probably the best looking clubs at this budget ( I'd take the pxg over both if I could) but the p790 have the edge for my eye

If you're playing off 11 I'm assuming you have a decent strike anyway, so I'd say you would easily be good enough to justify buying them, just make sure you get a proper fir for them to get the most out of them

For any of you who are golf history buffs, Mickey Wright passed away yesterday. Who, you ask?

Hogan thought she had the best swing of anyone, man or woman. He was right. This is awesome with the 2 iron;

I live these old swings, and also the character of the players from that era. Hogan, Snead, Palmer. In fact her swing is a bit Palmer-esque. Huge wind up, big pivot. Just killing the ball.

I saw this on golfwrx and a couple of bits by The Golf Channel on Instagram.
Deserved more coverage though, given her record and the praise she received from some of the best ever...

Agreed. Some great players from that era, male and female.

Cheers! I'll let you know how I get on when I get fitted in a few weeks. Yesterday my swing speed with a 7 iron was 87mph, which I think is pretty healthy.

This made me look at the swing speeds etc in a lesson I had yesterday.

Been playing 14 months now but feel I have gone backwards a bit over the last 4 months, probably just not playing enough.

7 iron in the studio yesterday was going 170 yards , with a max of 184, carry was generally in the 160's.

Swing speed of 89.6mph.

65 year old overweight male playing off 28, sometimes , and depends on the course biggrin

I was hoping to get a swing of the new Mavryk driver and just see how many extra yards , if any, I could gain over my Fusion but time ran out.
Coming soon smile

That's pretty quick for a 7 iron!

I know that our club pro swings it at about 88mph, and I know players that play off 3 that swing it at 80mph.

I have graphite shafts on my Lynx Parallex clubs, mates often comment how easy they swing when they have a try.

What were the strikes like?

I'm not 100% on all my speeds as the last two times I've been in the monitor its been purely for technical lessons, but iirc my 7 iron was around 91mph and avg 177 yard carry.

As part of some swing changes I'm trying to slow the swing down just a tad for a little more control, if you've seen my previous videos I'm a little aggressive which doesn't always help lol

That is quick club speed. PGA pros hit around 85-90mph so that’s good speed for a 28 handicapper.

Strikes were actually ok, I was hitting around the lower middle of the face, which I hadn’t before , always too close to the shaft.

On course I do get the odd wayward hole where the red mist seems to come down.
I try to not let the club go past 12 o clock , but often with the driver , I get a glimpse of the club head out of my left eye .
Then it really can be a post code lottery.

I think the key will be finding somewhere dry enough to try them out on turf smile

I did want to try the HMB's, but after a quick chat the guy at American Golf (yes, yes I know) would only really suggest trying another blade - for context, my VR Pros only came in 4 - PW, and I was looking for a 3 iron - for the best match with the rest of the set, and my dislike of the feel of hollow / multi-material irons.

Tried the Mizuno MP20 and the 620MB as I mentioned - could only try the 6 iron, so compared them to my VR Pro 6 iron. In all honesty, there was very little to separate the two models - same distance and ball speed, and very similar feel. I ended up going for the Mizuno as I'd already bought 3 Titleist woods last season and wanted to mix it up a bit.

Had it for a couple of months now and it is superb - really easy to hit, very straight and very long. Not the most forgiving on toe hits, but I tend to miss the other side anyway - and nothing short of grooves on the hosel is saving that mist hehe

If I was looking for a bit more help, the MP-20 MMC's would definitely be on the list, along with the HMB's. Away from Mizuno, I'd also be trying out the 620 CB and T100/T100S/T200 ranges from Titleist, and probably the Apex Pro and X-Forged from Callaway.

Lots of options out there, sounds like an excuse to go to a local golf club establishment and have a play.
