If you're looking for a Driving Iron, another great option is to pick up a long iron from one of the "hotter" range of irons out there. So for example if you were about to pick up a set of MP-20 MMC's, a 3 or 4 iron in the HMB's would fill the gap nicely.

I've just recently picked up a Nike Vapor Fly Pro 4 iron with an X100 fitted from eBay to do that very job. Distance wise it sits right between my 3 and 4 irons, meaning I can go back to 4 wedges, and is a solid 210 - 220 of the tee.

Seen here in new bag:

Interesting earlier mention of sneaking stuff past the wife - mine pays so much attention to my golf, that she completely missed the fact I carried a brand new golf bag, in a completely different colour to all my others right past her nose smile

Srixon U85 owner here.

Love the club and blends in nicely with my Z765 irons, very similar in looks.

It replaced a hybrid and the consistency compared to the hybrid is night and day.
Don't mention the irons, I'm still thinking of replacing the p790s and the z series looks right up my street

2nd round on a course today. Little18 hole par 3. It’s only a 9 hole but you play twice.

6th hole... HOLE IN ONE.

Verified by a very grumpy father in law having played for 20 years and never had one.

Could not believe it. Struck a beauty of a 7 iron. Only a 140yd hole but the ball disappeared. Only when walking up to the hole I saw it. Feel like I have peaked too soon. hehe

Beers are on me.

Am in South Wales now. But originally Hampshire. If you find yourself in South Wales shoot me a message and I'd be up with a game. Just don't expect any high-quality golf from me.
Funny coincidence, I’m based in Newport. A stones throw from Celtic manor. Seriously, send me a pm - let’s have a round
Sounds great.

Shot you an email. But have booked in some lessons so might be better to leave it for a few weeks - as with some luck they will help me get a bit more consistent and get the ball in the air more than 50% of the time.

No game today, but I did pop down to a driving range which has a rather large Pro Shop attached to try out the TS2 a bit more after my limited use of it during the 9 holes on Thursday.

As I said before, I just cannot get on with my M2 driver. I really struggle to hit it. So, the Pro/fitter sorted me out with the 9 deg TS2 and off I went - felt good, very good. Avg carry distance around 235m mark and relatively straight although a few did "balloon right".

He then brought me a Maverick 9 deg driver. WOW, average carry 245m (around 30-40 balls) and a lot, lot straighter with no ballooning - so I bought it and sold my M2 at the same time to a bloke who was watching! cool

Game booked for tmr PM - can't wait.

Nice!

Played in a pairs match today in amongst a few mates, was dreading it after turning my ankle a few days ago - still limping so took a buggy.

Managed to shoot 39 points (+6 front 9 inc a triple, level back 9) and we lost 2&1. My partner was even 20 points on the front. Cruel game this :/

Had my first round in quite a while yesterday. With the mrs pregnant and due to pop any day I was restricted to the local 9 hole par 3 course as it’s only a few mins from home.

Dreadfully maintained course, however it was nice to be out and once I’d loosened up my swing a little made some alright shots. Really enjoyed it to be fair.

I’ve been playing on and off for about 4 years now but never more than once or twice a month.

Im hooked again and this time I’m planning on joining a club so I can start playing more often.
Wessy Park ?
It was indeed!
When I saw North East Wales in your profile thought it might be.

I used to live in Broughton in the 1970's and that was where me and a few mates used to have a go.

Really enjoyable game this morning!

Gross 78 for 37 points. And that was with four 1 pointers on the card. Also 4” from a hole in one!

Really feel my game is coming along now, really enjoying my golf.

Well I cant compete with you guys for score. But I'm over the moon. I only played 9 holes. But I managed not only to start and finish with one ball. But I scored 52 shots for the 9 holes.

Most on here would be appalled at that score. But it's only the second time I have counted my score. And I've only been playing two weeks.

With some lessons I might even be able to break 100! Absolutely buzzing.

My method... I simply took every club further than a 5 iron out of my bag. And I read the 5 lessons book by Ben Hogan. If I hadn't taken 4 shots to get out of a bunker I'd have scored under 50.

Great to get back out. My putting is surprisingly sharp considering the lay off and the super fast greens at my club. The work I did on my home driving range has been paying off, but one of the big variables in golf is the lie. My mat is nice and soft but the fairways at my club are cut tight and it's been dry. It's like an in land links sometimes, and we have excellent irrigation. I'm hitting a 2i off the tee now in places, and the roll is amazing. If you miss some of our greens you can end up Chipping off hard pan over a bunker, which in my opinion is the hardest shot in golf! It's a hot worth practicing because if you can do that then you should fear nothing....

Superb! Well done, keep going and get those lessons so you have some swing basics ingrained from the beginning!

You don't need to compete with anyone other than yourself and the course, everyone is at different levels and stages of playing.

Just practice / play and enjoy it, the score will come down over the months the more you play and don't make the same mistakes.

The Hogan book is really good, but some of the wording is a bit cryptic at times. There was always talk that he never truly revealed everything. Also some of what he says he doesn't actually do! Some great suff on youtube. I love this, it's like fluid oil;

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nWLLPKiSMRk&t=9s

Note that his arms are not "bound together" as shown in the book! I love golf...its all fascinating stuff. But for starting out, the book is a good reference.

Any thoughts on the Mizuno ST200 driver? I've never had a new driver before, have been using an old Ping G5, Big Bertha or Callaway ERC and feel I may be missing out on consistency and distance. Playing off 18 (but not laugh). Also thinking about driving iron instead, as above.

Haven't hit it myself but I post on a couple of golf message boards, and on both it seems to be a bit of a cult hit. Not many have tried it but all who have seem to love it - so worth a try if you can get fitted.

I wonder if they're popular because of the apparent value ie £200 less than a lot of the others. Kind of Skoda syndrome.
