Anyone got any recommendations for new golf grips? Going to re-grip my Mizunos as they still have the original grips on them and are well past their best.

I have a MCC Std on my driver, MCC Plus4 on my 4 wood (both second hand clubs) but my pro shop have a deal on Lamkin Crossline grips at £5 each. Seems a bit of a bargain.

These any good?
Great grips imo, especially for £5. Great feel and very durable, I've had them on a few iron sets over the years.

I've moved to Tour Velvet Align now as the ridge helps me set my hands correctly, but it was very tempting to back to Lamkin when I got my grips done a couple of weeks ago. If they'd be £5 a pop, I probably would have smile
Popped down the Pro shop at lunch and had a practice. Noticed they still had the Lamkins, so bought 7 @ £5 each and the guy will fit them for me as well for no extra charge. Happy Days.

Have the MCC and MCC 4+ on my driver and 4 wood and dont really like them. Might get those re-gripped as well some point soon.

Golf is a funny old game.

The withdrawals were setting in bad today so had to get a round in. Fairly dry but a bit gusty.

I went armed with an old set of clubs, albeit the set that I shot my lowest ever round with a while back. Which consisted of....

Cobra Fly Z driver (2015)
Wilson D100 22deg hybrid (2013)
Wilson C200 7-pw (2016)
Cleveland RTX 50, 56 & 62 (2015)
Random answer style putter 'borrowed' from a local pitch and putt (1980's at a guess)
Slazenger V300 ball

As you can see, none of the equipment is the latest and greatest but of all my golf gear I've got (hell of a lot!) That set up consists of clubs that I have complete confidence with.

Despite the conditions I ended up shooting 79 (7over). No spectacular golf played just sensible course management, quite boring golf really but the result was surprising.

On the drive home I had convinced myself that I will play with this set all year as it obviously works for me. So when I got home what was the first thing I did? ......ordered a new driver!

I'm a sucker for the old fashioned sounding drivers, the loud 'ting!' sound, so will be giving the new Cleveland Launcher Turbo a whirl. If the sound is obnoxious as most of the reviews make out then there's a good chance it will get a place in the bag.......only to be replaced by the fly z again in few months most probably !

I can relate to this after yesterday.

We abandoned the round as the pitch was completely waterlogged, and nipped to the range instead. My mate, who has played 2 rounds in his whole life, had a Dunlop DDH driver in his bag that I had a few hits with. And I hit it far better than I've been hitting my Titleist 913 driver recently, so when I got home I found one on eBay for the princely sum of £10 - ordered!

Anyone else using the Parallax driver? I didn't want to pay £400 for the top ones and tbh I'm hitting it really well.
Decided to treat myself to a matching Parallax 3 hybrid this week and so far disappointed, topped it a few times and only redeemed itself with a very nice-sounding shot off the deck later.
It's a keeper unless I go for a 4 hybrid instead.

I have been playing a fair bit here in South Africa, but not as frequently as I set out to - always the case that!

Played today and after 3 holes I caught up with a father who was caddying for his 15 year old daughter. they were having a practice round for a competition she was playing in at the club I am a member of. Blimey, could she play and after a few subtle questions, I find out she plays for the South African juniors and has been on a number of tours representing SA!

After 9 holes, one of her fellow SA juniors joined us and I have to say watching these 2 15 /yo girls play was bloody amazing - damn can they hit the ball.

They were not scoring but I was and I shot 80 - 8 over par. Best I have had a for a while.

The competition starts on Monday, so I think I will go down and support them.

I think the most likely explanation for the improvement is that the DDH shaft is accidentally a good match for your swing.

You could experiment with your Titleist head on the DDH shaft.

Came 2nd yesterday with 30 points (winner had 31).

Hit some very good shots, which was a huge improvement on the weekend before!

Highlight was a 207 yard 4 iron into a long par 4, almost holed it (could see the line in the dew next to the hole!). Missed the birdie putt.

what A game, just starting to accept the highs and lows. Been playing 15 months now.

10 days ago I got home from a game and told wifey that’s it, I am going back to cricket!
Wasting too much time and money on a game I can’t seem to get the hang of.

I gave it one more try , I was on fire!

Best score of 90, I missed 8 putts for a par and 2 other birdie putts went amiss.

Left me skipping home with a smile, knowing there was a possible mid 80’s round there.

Biggest achievement was finishing with the same ball I started with ??

A pro Vx 1 , found it plugged on a fairway the day before.

It appears that COVID-19 is quite handy for deals on golf clubs....

Looking at a complete bag of Mizuno (MP20 irons, T20 wedges, ST200 3 wood and driver) for under £1800

Greens at our place have just been tined, so they're a bit random, but I'm just grateful to be playing in the current circs and pleased that golf has been 'approved' as a thing to do. Think there might be some elbow injuries in a few months' time though what with all the elbow-bumping we're doing. Trying to give the old Titleist blades another go, doing OK with the loftier 714MBs but the long ones are a bit tough to hit consistently, which is only to be expected I guess. Bought a Big Bertha 9 degree driver off ebay for £12 a few weeks back and am loving it.

We here in South Africa have just gone in to a 21 day lock down. Managed to get a couple of games in before it happened - both games I ended up shooting 80.

I am still tugging the ball left on a number of shots - its either my hands closing the face of the club just at impact or I am pulling my arms across my body rather than extending out after impact. Have to wait until after the lock down to investigate.

anyone else home practicing ?

My putting has come on a long way, just need to hope the greens all look like my office carpet smile

Ordered a new putter, Odyssey Stroke Lab marxman S, love it, so easy to align with the single stripe down the middle. Lots of bargains to be had.

Other aspect is my chipping, probably hitting 100 balls a day in the garden with the 56 and 60 ', much more consistent now,

Tried to buy a practice net , but everywhere has sold out.

Just another 12 weeks or so to go I reckon frown

What are you guys up to ?

I’m not too far from the course thankfully - normally head over there every few days and have a chip around in the emptiness of an evening

Gagging to get back on the course however

There's only so many times you can hit a 15-20 foot putt in the living room.

I'm lucky to have a big garden, but again there's only so many times you want to hit some chips and pitches!

I'm praying that the enforced break will do me good, going to have a lesson as soon as it's open and hope the muscle memory has faded and I can make my swing better!

We have a back garden but no grass, so I am limited to a bit of takeaway practice and putting, so just working on those two very occasionally - more to keep up the "feels" I had before this all kicked off - was playing my best golf ever before they closed the courses, so hoping this layoff doesn't affect that too much.

Have found a couple of things to keep me amused though, have downloaded WGT Golf from Google Play and am playing with my usual 4 ball on that, I also ordered a silly putter cover from the US. I'm struggling to post a link as it's triggering the swear filter, but if you were to Google "Bad Mother Putter Cover" you should find it - its modeled on Samuel L Jackson's wallet from Pulp Fiction, and appeals to my inner 5 year old nicely smile

As an old and stiff geezer this is the bit I have trouble with. If I really force myself to extend out, the shot is invariably better than normal, but it hurts! I've been experimenting with the Dave Pelz method, which is basically positioning the ball opposite your RIGHT heel and then flaring out both feet to the left (keeping the clubface square of course). It's really meant for chipping (when you deloft the club as well) but it seems to work for full shots with the shorter clubs too. I'm getting good consistent results with it anyway, and much better ball striking which has always been a problem for me with the ball in the 'correct' position.

Managed get myself a net and a range mat just before the lock down. Have set it up in front of my patio doors so I can have constant reference to getting on plane. I would say that this enforced layoff is probably helping me find a better swing as I'm grooving something much more correct. Even with a net, you know when it's flush. I use an impact sticker to tell me where on the face I'm hitting it as well, as I was always slightly heel side which made fading the ball difficult.

Couple of items I've added during lockdown, I'm itching to get back out now...
