What loft/bounce and grind options did you go for?

If reports are correct its looking like golf courses could be reopened in perhaps 2 weeks time.

After my previous club being closed for c90 days this past winter, making us play from mats when it was actually open and now confirming that there will be no investment (much needed) in the course for the foreseeable due to COVID/members leaving myself and friends have all left.

Have a call in to try and negotiate a rate for up to 8 new members for another course in the area. Working from home, likely for the next 6 weeks at least, this may well present a great opportunity to get on the course a little more!

It does look like golf will be one of the first things to get opened up - England Golf have sent an information pack to clubs this week about how to reopen, and there is an MP on the case apparently:

https://www.nationalclubgolfer.com/news/golf-clubs...

Valliance mentioned before lockdown that golf was a fairly safe activity as long as everyone is sensible, so fingers crossed.

I'm really hoping for a swift return to playing, but latest news seems to indicate June.
Getting restless, I get a club out every time I go to the garage and I've chopped up the grass there now. Using an old driver now after I took divots with irons and lofted them next door......

Unless you’re in Scotland there was a great article in the spectator which said that outdoor activities were likely to be relaxed next week. Surely that’s pretty positive for golf?

There's speculation that courses may be opening back up on 11th.

https://www.bunkered.co.uk/golf-news/date-suggeste...

The timing couldn't be worse if true. I finished work the day the closure came into action and will be going back to work on the 11th! May have to delay my return!

I've been give some golf sticks.

The bloke who have me them said they were okay back in the day but they need new handles. They are pretty old.

Is there anywhere I can find out if it's worth putting new rubber on the handles? I dont want to waste money if they are no good.

What make/model are the clubs? - feel free to post a picture and I'll try and help as to model/value.

Realistically you are looking at from £50 (a lot more of you get something fancy) to re-grip 10 clubs.

Quite a lot of the 22 ones with different numbers.

Also a putter and another of the burner comes with a different number. And these

They are decent for a free set!

Definitely worth re-gripping them, best bet to go to the place doing it and ask them to measure your hands, will then get the correct sized grips for you.

This! You've done extremely well there!

(sorry if this is a daft question, but you know they're left-handed, don't you?)

Yes I'm left handed.

I actually got given two sets of irons. One goes 3 to p. And the other goes 5 to s.

Which set is better to get new handles on?

Put of

The red ones have s to 5 with a very chunky 5.

The 22 ones go 3 to p without s. The bloke who have them to me said he used the 56 for s. But he hasn't played in ages.

Also got 2 putters and a couple of bags so I want to make one set. Just for fun going to the range as i have never really played golf.

Cheers

The red ones will be easier to hit at first, the others are slightly more modern/better and still fairly forgiving.

Can you show pictures of the grips? They may be a bit worn but unless you’re playing in the rain unless they’re torn/gone completely they’ll be fine while you learn.

None of them are ripped. But the guy giving me them said the grip handles would need changing. If they are good to go I'll just take the red ones down to a driving range when its open.

I've had a go in the garde and it didn't go so well. I was using the 60 degree metal one and I wasnt exactly getting it in the air easy. I think I'm doing something very wrong.

I'd like to give the driver a smack as I was given balls and little wooden pegs as well. But I have no room in the garden for that. I was thinking of putting a sheet over the washing line but think it could end badly.

Red sticks are the one with Callaway written on the handle. The 22 ones doing have branding on the handles but are a bit more sticky.

Get yourself down the range (well, whenever we're allowed. You know what I mean anyway). Nothing wrong with those grips.

And once you've been to the range and got incredibly frustrated at this stupid game, get yourself some lessons wink

I spoke to a guy I know at another course - they haven't played since October due to rain and then 2 days before the course was due to open Lockdown happened - absolutely gutting!

We've been very fortunate and have played all winter without restrictions, temporary tees or greens (not even winter rules!) so were able to play until Lockdown. It still seems like a lifetime ago that we played though.

Should be fine. Get a new glove for a fiver and give the grips a light sanding to remove the shine and you're away.

(you owe your mate a BIG favour - those clubs are worth several hundred pounds)
