Played Inchmarlo 9 holer near Banchory yesterday for the second time with better results. Score is down as 1 under but the second was actually playing like a 190 yard par 3 with where the tee was so I'd call it level par in real terms. Pitching in for eagle on the 8th and driving the last with a 3 wood was a nice way to finish too.
That's the sort of score I only manage on Playstation. Well played!toasty said:

That's the kind of scorecard I get when I ask my wife's friends to mark my attractiveness out of 10.
Stroke index 1 friend gave you 5/10, that's not too shabby!! Just back from a few days in Scotland with the wife, who very graciously allowed me to disappear off for a few holes yesterday morning. We were staying in Dundee, where I grew up, so took the opportunity to go back to the course where I first learned to play (other than the back garden), walking round with me dad's 4 ball and my 7 iron 33 years ago.

Was a fantastic morning, lots of memories, and a course that hadn't changed in the slightest. It's a fantastic mix of links and heathland, so both fast greens and lots of trees to keep you paying attention. I actually rate it above all but maybe 2 of the St Andrews courses (The Jubilee and the Old), and would highly recommend a game if you're ever in the area.
Shot 77 on a Open Qualifying course as well, which I was pleased with. Could have been even better if I hadn't doubled the 17th after a ball hit a tree and vanished.

Played Strathpeffer many many years ago. Think it's the second hole is across the other side of the lake. Whack, splash, repeat.....https://www.scotscraiggolfclub.com/

So had some Irons arrive, Ended up with Ping G10's, bit older than I wanted but they are in pristine condition with barely any wear on the original grips at all, Went for yellow dot which are just under what ping suggests for my 36.5" slender man arms in comparison to 5"10 height but they seem to be going well.
I am now in need of a proper driver to replace the Wilson puny thing I have been trying to hit. Is their a general best recommended beginner driver similar to the Ping Gxx iron recommendations?

Nice clubs. You won't go far wrong with a Ping G5 or G10 driver. I am now in need of a proper driver to replace the Wilson puny thing I have been trying to hit. Is their a general best recommended beginner driver similar to the Ping Gxx iron recommendations?

Take a look at the Ping K15. Should be available cheap now, reckoned to be the straightest Driver ever. I am now in need of a proper driver to replace the Wilson puny thing I have been trying to hit. Is their a general best recommended beginner driver similar to the Ping Gxx iron recommendations?
I have a Garmin X10 watch, and it's superb. Nice and small so doesn't impede wrist hinge, and very light.
Every time I've played with someone with a laser I've looked at my watch and have been within 5 yards of what they have zapped - and quite often exactly the same.
I'm not that accurate (I wish!) - the watch is much simpler/quicker for me. It also gives distances to all hazards and dog legs. You can also select pin position on the green should you wish.
What more do you need?

How do you know before you've hit the shot that you've accurately zapped the flag, instead of the bunker just in front of the flag though?
I'd only need to accidentally do that once in order to sink into a deep pit of depression.
You soon get the hang of it and learn what's right and what isn't. I'd only need to accidentally do that once in order to sink into a deep pit of depression.

Having had a watch as well I'd agree that they're quicker and more convenient to use than rangefinders. Poor signal round my way meant I had to go for the finder. My watch conked out when TomTom fried it with a remote (and unrequested) 'upgrade' through their app. Every time I've played with someone with a laser I've looked at my watch and have been within 5 yards of what they have zapped - and quite often exactly the same.

As a newbie (now approx. 4 months into playing) I've been playing at various courses as have no 'home' so to speak. Played Headingley Golf Club last weekend and it was immaculate;
Went around in 102 (it's a par 71), which to be pair I wasn't that upset about taking into account the time I've been playing, and the fact I only used irons again (ie didn't use the driver, 5 wood or hybrid as just not confident enough with them yet). I'm practising with the 5 wood currently and should be ok with it soon, and have a lesson with the driver next week. The reality being I need to be able to hit longer off the tee as when playing holes 400 yards+ (par 4's) & 500 yards+ (par 5's) I need to be able to reach in 2 & 3 respectively to have any chance of lowering my score, and can't currently do this with the longest club I'm currently hitting which is a 5 iron. Puttings pretty good, although the surface has like glass at the last course which took some getting used to.
I'm looking at joining Headingley as its relatively close to me, and thought it was great. Have to go see them today with my application form as don't know anyone up there to propose & second me.
Treat myself to a Garmin S62 today as well
