Managed 18 holes yesterday morning, first time since beginning of August due to holiday, quarantine and then busting my ankle.

Was a tad damp, holes 5 to 10 were particularly wet!

However not too shabby and shot 82 gross.

Hit some nice shots. Happy days!

Managed to get in 18 yesterday. Pissed down all morning, but we didn’t get a hint of rain all afternoon.

Played the best golf of the year and was on target to break 100. Get to the 17th, take 3 off the tee, top the next two and end up with a 10. Finished the 18 with a 102. Pissed off, but i can see the progress. Plus I still don’t hit Driver, Woods or hybrids. Everything is iron or putter.

Was due to be playing this afternoon but after looking at the forecast it’s been called off

Hopefully we’ll get out next weekend, else next booked games are the last competition of the year in 2 weeks time, then the following week the society is re-starting with 30 of us heading away to play for the weekend which should be fun!

Played in our re-arranged medal yesterday afternoon - course was remarkably dry considering the rain we had on Saturday and the fact most other clubs round here were shut - had warm sunshine for most of the afternoon too which was nice. Played well but couldn't putt - 6 3 putts from distance and a couple of wild drives meant I signed for an 82 nett 74 - shame as I'd gone out in 38 and was looking quite solid at that point.

I am seriously suffering here with a lack of golf - just have had no time to get out on the course and play - let alone go to the driving range.

I need to "right the sinking ship"

Its fortunate that we are coming into summer, so I should be able to get out and play a bit more once work has calmed down a bit and the renovations on the house are finished.

I was due to go to Turkey tomorrow with 15 others. COVID scuppered that. frown

Will hopefully get a round or two in at the weekend and a night out at a Turkish restaurant.

HELP !!!

Not sure what has happened. I've been playing maybe 4 months, in which times I've played a few rounds of golf (and even joined a club in the past week). Whilst I'm still a beginner, I'd like to think I was doing pretty well, going round some decent courses under 100 (using irons only and hadn't confidence to use driver/5 wood).

However, in the past few days I have gone to a position of not being able to hit a ball 75 days, and my grip, swing, stance all feel wrong. Its like the golfing yips or something. Everything is going off to the right.

Heads in bits and not sure how to sort it. The pro who I have had lessons with in the past is book up for weeks, so no chance to go so him, so am considering an 'intensive' course to try and sort it out.

Any thoughts ???

Noob question time: Ordered a driver off ebay (ping g15) and it came very poorly packaged and wondering if it was damaged in transit or designed as such.

The shaft angle seems very forward in relation to the club head.

The shaft seems straight when looking down the barrel and the club head does angle out the shaft but seems aggressively forward.

For future reference: DO NOT buy from justgolfclubsuk on ebay. The club came in a box with nothing other than a carrier bag wrapped around the head. No other packaging. It came naturally 3 days late with myherpes and the box was crushed. The club was just rattling around loose with absolutely no protection other than the carrier bag around the head.

The club looks fine.

Sorry to hear about your herpes.

It happens to everyone. Golf is hard.

I would strip is right back and go through the steps, grip, posture, alignment. Maybe start with some chip shots, and pitch shots. Hit a couple of those, make sure direct and strike are ok. The. Move into full shots

Indeed. Didn't expect such a backstep though.

Been watching videos this morning, and practising out in the garden with the air balls. Seems to have worked to some degree. Think the issue seems to have stemmed from setting the wrist on the the backswing.

Need/want to sort it out sharpish.

Golf is indeed hard. Very hard.

Just when you think you are moving forward, things seem to take a turn for the worse.
I've taken golf back up after playing once or twice a year for the last 12 years. On Friday I played 9 holes. Played OK, and shot 8 over, with 8 bogies and one par. Was pretty happy with my ball striking after a grip and posture change.
Played 18 today and shot 95. I was topping, hitting it fat and thin. Missing left and right. I had no idea where the ball was going. I couldn't even hit my go to punch cut that I use to get round when I can't feel what's going on with my swing. I putted OK though biggrin

Try not to get too down about it. Stick with what you are doing and relax on the course. Don't get too technical out on the course.

Sometimes having a week off will do you more good than pounding balls and worrying about things. And remember, the next shot is an opportunity to hit the best shot you've ever hit.

Anyone see any of the golf this weekend in the US? One of our own, Martin Laird, won his first event in 10 years (iirc), including a fantastic up and down from behind a tree on 17, and the below - probably one of the best bunker shots I've ever seen. In a plugged lie 6 inches below the face of the bunker and...well take a look.

That was an incredible shot to be sure, I wonder what chances he'd give himself of repeating it in another 100 shots.

It was an incredible shot. But a lot of hit and hope.

The up and down on 17 was one of the best you will see under pressure of winning a tournament. If that was Tiger, Phill or Rory it would be on highlight reels for years.

Just back from a few days in Scotland with the wife, who very graciously allowed me to disappear off for a few holes yesterday morning. We were staying in Dundee, where I grew up, so took the opportunity to go back to the course where I first learned to play (other than the back garden), walking round with me dad's 4 ball and my 7 iron 33 years ago.

https://www.scotscraiggolfclub.com/

Was a fantastic morning, lots of memories, and a course that hadn't changed in the slightest. It's a fantastic mix of links and heathland, so both fast greens and lots of trees to keep you paying attention. I actually rate it above all but maybe 2 of the St Andrews courses (The Jubilee and the Old), and would highly recommend a game if you're ever in the area.

Shot 77 on a Open Qualifying course as well, which I was pleased with. Could have been even better if I hadn't doubled the 17th after a ball hit a tree and vanished.
My friend's a member here and we played it yesterday. First time for me. Cracking course and the greens are about as good as it gets.

Lost my scorecards out of my back pocket recently, just needed one more 9 hole card to submit 54 holes for a handicap. Gutted or what. Avge 9 hole score was around 43/45 shots.
Started again today, rained for 18 holes, scored 50 and 41. The 50 was down to a 9 on a par 5, didn't hit a clean shot on it.
Anyway, anyone have any idea what handicap I would have got on these scores? I've no idea how it's worked out. Thanks.

Just back from a fine weekend in East Sussex.

We played Piltdown GC (heathland with lots of heather), Sedlescombe GC (Parkland) and Seaford GC (Windy Coastal Parkland). All quite tough courses compared to my usual ones. I scored 98, 101, 103 respectively off 21 hcp.

Based out of Eastbourne, each was less than 30 minutes away.

Highly recommended for a weekend trip away, especially since Turkey trip was cancelled.

Hi all, started playing about a month ago and game is coming along ok. My current clubs I found at the tip so i would like to upgrade. Tried some cheap irons (aspire was the make) today and straight away i was hitting it 30 yards further with a 7. Can anyone recommend some decent forgiving irons (been advised to get steel by my coach) that I could maybe pick up second hand? Budget is around £100-£150. Ta
